RE: NM Route 152

NM 152 is not a good route for towing large rigs and although some may have done it in the past, it is not something many would suggest. If you read the reviews at RvParkReviews.com for Silver City, many will say to avoid NM152. From Silver City, take 180 south and catch NM26 to Hatch and I-25 north. You do not need to take I-10 unless you want to go to Las Cruces.

RE: Goodyear marathon VS. Maxxis m8008

Maxxis ST tires are the best choice currently available and they have provided us with good service thus far. They are prone to failure like any other tire when overloaded and/or under-inflated as that might be the reason for any negative reviews. They are best suited for rigs weighing 10K or less. Heavier rigs would be better served using LT tires.

RE: Suggestions: Solid Open Road Fiver 30-34 Feet

We saw plenty of models from a variety of manufacturers that would suit your specifications at the RV show. Haven't heard about any towables falling apart behind their tow vehicles with the kind of usage you stated, but I guess anything is possible. Purchase a quality brand from a reputable dealer and you should be good to go, but keep in mind, no manufacturer is immune from producing a lemon from time to time.

RE: Flagstaff V-Lite 21 WRS

Dry weights are meaningless in determining a tow vehicle's ability to handle the weight. Tongue weight is best defined using 15% of TT's GVWR so there are no surprises. According to the link you provided, your tongue weight can be well over 900 lbs.

RE: How often do you repack bearings

We average 10K a year and I do mine every other year. They do get inspected every Spring when I check/adjust brakes, but the last time I serviced them they still looked great with plenty of grease and no visual bearing wear. If done right, it might be overkill doing it yearly, but as stated before it is cheap insurance.

RE: How long do most people keep their trailers?

Sure it would be nice to go larger for additional space, or smaller so we could get better MPG an get into tighter, more secluded sites. But at this point, our 4 year old, 32' TT is providing all we need, plus the new models we've seen at the RV show didn't make us think we were missing out on anything. I expect a few more years of service out of our current rig and then we'll see which way (larger or smaller) we go. As for depreciation, I'm not overly concerned as it's a losing situation no matter how you slice it.

It's possible a few of the veterans might get that pay, but you know what they say about a salesman's lip moving.

RE: St Andrews Park - sites marked 50 amp, 30 amp also?

Just pick a 50amp to 30amp adapter from CW or Wallyworld and you won't need to worry, plus they come in handy when 30 amp socket is excessively worn you can use the 50 amp socket instead.

RE: Bad experience with Seafoaming a generator...

Maybe too much Seafoam was added, but I don't have any experience with Seafoam as I add Stabil when filling our 20 gallon generator tank.

RE: South Padre Texas KOA?

Stayed at both parks and it really depends what your cup of tea is. County park is on the beach, crowded, and can be noisy, but since we have kids it was the better choice for us. The KOA is on the bayside and some sites have limited space but it is toned down compared to the county park and therefore less hectic and somewhat quieter. Enjoy your time in South Padre!!!

RE: Barker vip 3000 not working.

Our Barker had only a single wire that runs to the positive post on battery and is grounded using a star washer (scraped paint away for better contact) on one of the mounting bolts. It appears that power jack is not getting 12VDC if light is not turning on, double check all connections including fuseholder. Using a voltmeter will assist you in finding the problem.

RE: Tires

Common issue as many RV manufacturers use whatever tire that best suits their bottom line. Whether you are able to get warranty service since they are relatively new, would be bettered answered by your dealer, or TT/tire manufacturer. Whatever the outcome, get a better quality ST tire such as Maxxis, which currently are the best choice for ST tires.

RE: Albuquerque Campgrounds

The comments found on RvParkReviews.com are quite accurate for parks in the ABQ area. If you don't want to deviate much from I-40 and are looking for just an overnight stop, American, Enchanted, and High Desert are all located off the same exit on I-40. Further west about 30-45 minutes are Dancing Eagle and Sky City casinos that both have RV parks with much lower nightly prices.

RE: recliner's

Get any recliner of your choice as they don't have to be narrow enough to fit through your rig's door. Drop your ramp, put them in the desired location and enjoy.

RE: A topic that has been beaten to death! TIRES....

Our TH can weigh 10K when fully loaded (7K dry weight) and we have been getting good service out of our Maxxis ST tires. Not many good choices available in ST tires which is why so many suggest changing rims and going to LT tires. I believe that Maxxis ST tires are your best bet and will do the job well on rigs weighing up to 10K. Heavier rigs should consider upgrading to USA made LT tires. Had my set of Maxxis ST tires from DiscountTireDirect.com delivered (free shipping) to my front door in a couple of days. Took them to our local Discount Tire and had them balanced, and installed.

We purchased our unit from CW in the chrome finish. We had to get the holder as well since it would not securely fit existing holder.

Good to know since we travel that part of I-40 often. When you get a chance, write a review on RvParkReviews.com for those that miss reading this post.
