RE: actual trailer being towed

My truck is a 2005 crew cab Duramax. With the 5er hitch installed it weighs 7,000lbs. My Gross Combined Vehicle Weight Rating is 22,000lbs.
My trailer's gross weight is rated at 11,000lbs. The pin is less than 2,000lbs. The last time I put the rig on the scales the combined weight was 16,800 with all tanks full and fully loaded for the road. It's a very comfortable weight for the truck.

RE: advised not to use a solar panel?

You really won't understand solar until you read a bunch about it.
I suggest http://www.jackdanmayer.com/rv_electrical_and_solar.htm
He has one of the best sections on solar in his web site. And...He's not selling anything.

RE: 28 Foot 5er...Do We Need 2nd A/C

I have a 28' Wildcat with single pane windows and a single 15K a/c.
If I let the trailer get hot, it would be nice to have a second unit to cool it down in 100*+ weather. However if I'm parked and start the a/c earlier, it will keep the trailer cool. The trick is not to let the interior warm up. Everything in the trailer will radiate heat and the a/c just cannot cool it down below about 80*.

RE: stay out of los angles

As long as we are playing "woulda, coulda, shoulda,"
Did it cross anyone's mind that if the fire had damaged his air system causing him to loose air pressure,... the brakes locked up?

RE: News from Quartzsite?

Almost had to get out the long johns. Temp the other night was down to almost 50* But to make up for it, the day time has been mid 70's.
The South LTVA is really starting to fill up. There almost was a line at the dump yesterday and one filling with water. It's getting crowded.
I was at La Posa the other night and there were only 6 or 7 booths to choose from.
Other than that, the town is still pretty much asleep.

RE: Question on reversing a trailer with "flipped axles"

Thanks guys.
I'm a former medium/heavy truck teck, and have replaced leaf springs on heavy and medium trucks and some light trucks too. In fact I just put a lift on a 1995 Jeep Wrangler. I have never done one on a travel trailer so I just wanted to make sure I had an understanding on what needs to be done before I commit to the deal.
I don't want to overblow the water damage. The flooring is a little soft to the touch at the very left front corner and the paneling has some damage there, it's not all the way through, but the paper finish is off in a spot or two, but it literally goes out maybe 8" in all directions.
Could the gakets on the compartment door allow water to get in and cause that? Seems like it's running down from above to me, but the window is not in that area and I doubt it would go horizontal from the window without causing damage around the window and it has no damage there.
THanks again!
-Greg
Water damage can be really spooky. It could be coming from one of the clearance lights.

RE: Got my first camper 2 weeks ago and ready to hit the road!

WELCOME TO "OUR" FORUMS. It is just as much yours as anybody else's.
With an older rig, take time to make sure it's water tight. Some of the sealant may need repair. The last thing you want is water getting in. Pay particular attention around the clearance lights, and windows.
I really like the way your photos post. Who is the host?

RE: MPPT Solar Controllers

My batteries are AGM and the battery manufacture recommends 14.6v.
Check with yours. I believe most charge above 14.1v.

RE: RV Solar....12v vs 24 v ???

My system is 4 135s wired series/parallel. the 24v output is changed to 12v at the controller. The system runs at 14.6v during bulk charge and will charge at 28amps during absorb. It recharges the 6, 6v AGMs really well.

RE: Up date on gas tank replacement

I have the same truck as the OP and I replaced my OEM 26 gallon tank with a 52 gallon. My low fuel light comes on when I have approx 10 gallons left. I have also noted that the "fuel used" indication is consistently wrong on the high side when only short trips are taken. This shows the mileage is also wrong on the low side. When longer trips are taken these two indicators are pretty close.
I do love the larger tank vs the small OEM one.
I'd LOVE a 52 gal Tank. Where did you find one?
