RE: poorly done ad by Newell

I'd be buying the coach, not the background. Just because they might be able to afford a $50k+RT for a few pix doesn't mean it's the correct financial decision.

RE: Digital TV - VHF vs. UHF

Wingman will not affect VHF so as you'd notice. Though the idea was to get rid of VHF tv, and move everyone to UHF, And then REsell the VHF spectrum, and bids were indeed taken on that.. I have seen Digital Stations as low as Channel 5 on the frequency chart Chan 5 is not only VHF, but it's VHF-Low band (2-6) Oh well, The best layed plans of Men and Government Agencies I guess. There are a few even lower than that.... Go figure. Since there is another repacking coming I suspect the stragglers will be pulled into the frey

RE: Digital TV - VHF vs. UHF

The Wingman has absolutely no effect whatsoever on VHF channels. what you don't have now, you didn't have before..

RE: Need new GPS

Actually the operation and internals of the Garmins have changed greatly since the C series. The GUI is totally different, frankly I like the old school better. And the receivers are now running SiRF receivers that are way hotter front ends than previous enabling am to navigate downstairs in a 2 story house... Something unheard of years ago, and anything older than the Nuvi series of the 8 Garmins I have won't do. Go find a place you can play with them because there are differences in the GUI, even within the NUVI series. If you spend $100, then don't mess with lifetime maps. But if your spending several hundred and think its a keeper, then it's worth the cost.

RE: Boondocking pet peeves, I really hate it when...

didn't some one ask this question last week?Yeah, Mike did.... Isn't that considered duplicate posts? He should put himself on report and go stand in the corner for a timeout. :)

RE: Day Night Shades

It may look daunting, but once you get in there and see whats going on it ain't no big deal. It sure wasn't assembled by "skilled" workers because 1/2 of the internal issues are lousy assembly. Just fixed the biggest shade in the coach, and now carry all the string and pieces to repair anything when needed.

RE: Trip Report: Death Valley in March

It's one of my destinations this year. I plan to go there in June or July, because during the two months I have much time for camping.By that time you'll probably see why they call it Death Valley :(

RE: Free Severe Weather Alerts via Cell Phone

You missed the most important acronym of them all: C ommon A lert P rotocol CAP is the protocol that delivers the alerts located on the iPAWS server run by FEMA in Washington. It is the CAP messages that the phones will react to as well as the protocol that will enable broadcasters to get away from these canned messages to convey more specific information about pending events than the generic alerts they broadcast now, and only add important info via audio on the TV (because we have no other choice right now. In the meantime there are several CAP enabled alert apps for Smartphones. For the iPhone, there is ELERTS, Weather Radio, Wx Alert USA, and a few more that I'm testing for an advisory group to the FCC & FEMA, developing best practices in their implementation, use, and regulation of this monster they've built and are still trying to figure out it's true potential. I'm not sure where the cellular companies are at in their rollout of SMS CAP alerts (it's a sub-committee I'm not on), but the above apps work well, not perfectly. Some are $10, some free. It just depends on the level of sofistication you wand, or the developer thinks their app is worth. CAP is currently running weekly tests from the iPAWS server across the US and it's terrirories. NWS is currently on-board and a handful of states (the rest are either clueless or have no $$).

RE: Two 6 volt GC Batteries, OR, two type 24 batteries?

All . . . . . . I am getting really confused about this battery issue. I currently have two 12 volt type 24 batteries. I want to improve my amp hours. So, should I buy 2 6 volt GC batteries (removing the 12 volt batteries), or stick to 2 12 batteries? I don't want to go with solar panels. What is the difference between type 24 batteries, or 27 type batteries? Thanks for your help. 2ea parallel GP24's are ~180AH 2ea series GC batteries average a yield of ~232AH All things being equal you will probably get a hands down vote for the GC batteries just because you can beat them to death for years.

RE: What Is The Brightest And Longest LED Rope Light?

This might be overkill, but THESE are the LED lights we use on the side of the trucks. We use the PFP1 series as it's a floodlight just for setup and break down, but they often ise it for talent when they get too lazy to break out a sticklight. What do these cost? They look good for a horse trailerStandby, I'll have to see if I can find the quotes, but they're not cheap. I argued with purchasing to buy 15 for 5 trucks over the incandescent and finally had to pull rank :)

RE: Magnum MS2812 inverter/charger

Questions & Comments: -Can you verify the voltage on the batteries is what the Magnum is telling you? FYI- The Magnum charge current gauge is highly inaccurate unless you have the BMK installed. Voltmeter isn't anything to write home about either.. -Have you looked at the panel to see if the Magnum charger is really on, and if so, what's it's charge rate? There are adjustments to limit the charge current all the way to Off -Is the battery select in 'Flooded' or 'AGM', not in a custom mode with bogus spec's? -Are you shutting the inverter OFF when not in use? Even when you do the magnum still draws ~250ma (FYI) -You drove all that way and the coach didn't charge the batteries? Sounds like you have a dead contactor, unless someone has purposely disconnected it. -You can always call Magnum. They're a US company, speak English, and are really helpful!

RE: What Is The Brightest And Longest LED Rope Light?

Is this just background light or examination grade light? eBay has several vendors selling 10W+ LED lights on reflectors, and the (12V) lights we have on our news trucks are blindingly bright. Want me to look and make & models?

RE: RV.NET is dead...

It will display if (for example) you're logged onto Woodall's, and the link posted points back to another link from RV.net. At least that's been my experience. It'd be nice if one log-in registered everywhere, but I don't see how that could work.

RE: RV.NET is dead...

I know what they are, and as mentioned I only see them when there is a link in a post pointing back to a portal I'm not logged onto. Either way, the RV.net portal appears healthy this morning

RE: RV.NET is dead...

Check your settings. There isn't a problem.Yeah there is, you just got lucky.. As for the lurkers, unless something has changed, you need to sign up on each portal, and I have. But I'm not signed ON more than one at a time, hence if there is a link in a thread that points to any other portal, then the Lurker nag comes up. Don't know how many portals it's actuall on tho

RE: Mixed up HWH jacks

That's exactly what should happen. All jacks start and drop at the same time. Only when all 4 feet are on the ground can the system level the coach automatically, and while the jacks are still in the air are on the way down, you may have some movement of the coach from those already on the ground. When the pump stops is does does sound like it's low on oil, but I think that's a pressure relief. IF it doesn't auto-level.. level, then there is an adjustment up front on the control box to do a calibration on the control system.
