RE: Is there a LARGE RV event like Quartzsite on the East Coast

There is nothing else like the "Q". Everybody should go once. I don't know why anyone would go the second time. Many, many, RVing clubs have an annual rally at 'Q'. My 6th year and I love it!EXACTLY ! And the rest of us to to hang with friends.

RE: Rincon Parkway

Last week a driver plowed into the back of a parked MH at the Rincon. The car driver died, ---snip---That's not the 1st time..

RE: 1st time to Quartzsite

OK Jeff, gotta know how you got those pictures!!Here's the hanger (storage bay) :) http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r192/SCVJeff/8e8616d0.jpg height=400 width=400 If the weather settles tomorrow I'll go back up and do some HD video, but any higher and I need a spotter with binoc's to figure out orientation. When shooting stills, it takes one shot/sec.

RE: 1st time to Quartzsite

Q seems quite a bit more crowded this year than last year. The big tent was packed with people yesterday. The show is packed, even during the week (don't these people work?). But the Plomosa area is definitely light this year. Here are a few pix shot this morning: http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r192/SCVJeff/1.jpg height=400 width=400 http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r192/SCVJeff/2.jpg height=400 width=400 http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r192/SCVJeff/3.jpg height=400 width=400 http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r192/SCVJeff/4.jpg height=400 width=400

RE: Coming S. on 95 to Q 1/24--where to boondock?

When we got here to Plomosa on Friday, it was noticeably empty compared to past years, but that is now slowly changing. The tent was nutz! looked like a Sat.!

RE: Quartzsite,,,WIND

We have stayed out north of town on Plamosa Road and the desert is mostly rock. Never had a problem with dust. It is often windy in a true desert, mother nature sez so! She will usually provide a wide diurnal range too! DonYou wouldn't say that if you had been there Sat night... Yikes. Right around dusk the mtn's. slowly started disappearing, West to East. Dust storms !

RE: No TV Closed Caption while hooked up via HDMI

There are two CC formats: 608 & 708. One is contained in the vertical interval and is an analog protocol (essentially), 708 is contained in the digital stream. They both contain the same information, but take their own unique demux to decode. There is an "encapsulated" 608 in 708 that is a mix of the two. If I had to guess, either the receiver can not generate 708 CC data on the HDMI, or the monitor only decodes analog 608. Both are possible and common, but the only way to know is replace equipment known working elsewhere or get a scope on the stream.

RE: Norcold fire picture

I am ordering a fire extinguisher from www.firefight1.com for my refrigerator compartment. I already have one aimed at the engine in the event of a fire.Who are you ordering from? I've been getting "We apologize for the inconvenience. At this time we are not able to process any orders. Please be patient while we Correct a few technical problems." popping up for quite a while now.I was wondering if that was fixed. The owner was killed last year, and they said they would continue business, but they all are barely Internet savvy so this may be a fluke. Give them a call and see how it goes. If these folks go away, I don't think anyone else is building what they do. :(

You may need an SS-30 with the remote head if it's as narrow from wall to fridge as mine. I can't get the Halon where I really want it because of that. Probly need to send it in and have it modified.

RE: Norcold fire picture

Does the brand new Norcold Ultraline 1210 have this issue? LinkALL 12xx Series Norcolds are under recall. To the smoke detectors: I don't know what makes them different, but I know for a fact that residential and office grade smoke detectors are easily contaminated by dust and grime, which they are always sealed until the office or house is completely clean and ready for occupation. I have seen them fail in studios we are rebuilding and are not covered, and I saw them fail in the parking structure at the office right next to the freeway before someone figured out they weren't rated for that service, whatever that is. So I can't imagine an internal device sitting in a hot, dusty, grimy, salty (in my case) environment and expected to live. Any fire/ Life-Safety folks out there? I contacted NORCOLD and they say that after 2010 and beyound are new resigned cooling units. No recall requiredThat's curious since even last year they were telling people it was all 12xx series, this must have been a late change, or poor communications. OR are they just installing the fail-safe device at the factory and calling it good? Then there is the pic a friend sent of the burned up Alpha out in Palm Springs today :(

RE: Best boondocking shower head?

Our stock shower head worked well but we prefer boondocking and drycamping, so we installed the Oxygenics which provides better spraying pressure while using less water. Never thought of them as being too fancy but they do make a plain white one.White is for those of us with wall to wall white imported Italian Marbled tile showers in the coach..... :-/
