RE: Problem with front bedroom slide. help please

Glad everything worked out. Good luck & maybe we'll see you at Green Lakes SP.
WE have been to Green Lakes a few times, and enjoy it. But usually we try to get a little further away from home. I see you are local to Syracuse, we live in Cicero.
By the way, . . . nice truck :)

RE: Problem with front bedroom slide. help please

problem located and fixed.
I removed the bed and pulled up the board so I could see what was going on. The manufacturer only used 2 screws to hold the bed frame to the slide. They both pulled out.
I replaced the screws and added 4 additional screws. Goes in and out as it should now.
While I was in there I relocated our pump for our air mattress(sleep number) under the head of the bed. There was just enough room in there to fit it. Ran the hoese out along with the power cord.
All set. Thanks for the help and pointing me in th eright direction. I have an extended warranty for the rv, but I know it would be tied up at the dealer waiting for repair.
Thanks again,

RE: Problem with front bedroom slide. help please

No slide locks, and nothing was blocking it to go out. I could push it out by hand pretty easily. Just seemed to be disconnected from the bottom of the slide.
Should I be able to push on the top of the slide from the inside and make the top of the slide move without the rest(bottom) of the slide moving.

Problem with front bedroom slide. help please

Just took our 5th wheel out of storage and went to put the slide out. No problem with the middle slide and the rear slide.
Then I went to put the front bedroom slide out and it looked bad. The bottom of the slide went out fine, but the top of the slide did not move. It looked like something was going to break, so i brought it back in. Bottom came back in with no problem.
Everything sounded normal. The electric motor did not sound like it was straining to work.
I then tried to put the slide out again and it did the same thing. I looked outside at the slide to see if I could see a problem. All looked ok and normal.
I tried to push out on the top of the slide by hand as I was using power to push it out. I could move the slide in and out about 1-1.5 feet. I seemed very loose. I put it out a little more and eventually it started going by itself, like normal.
Put the slide back in and tried one more time. Same exact thing. This time with my wife watching. She screamed, "stop, you are going to break it!!!"
Put the slide back in with no problem. And left it alone.
Any ideas?
Thanks for your thoughts. I hope its something easy.

RE: Camping ideas within 500 miles of Syracuse NY

:? why waste time driving up to 500 miles...take a short 1.5 hour drive North from Syracuse on I81 to Wellesley Island State Park and enjoy the time you saved relaxing with the family not to mention the extra $$$ you saved in fuel ;)
We have been out to ABAY 3 times in the last 5 years...we camped at Wellesley 4 years ago. It is one of our favourite places. Pirate Days is way to much fun (for the entire family) and go see the boat show in Clayton Antique Boat Show Clayton NY
Have a FUN time wherever you end up :)
Good point. And I agree. However, we have been many, many times to Lake George and Alex Bay. We have been to A-Bay during Pirates Weekend a few of those times by boat.
I did not want to mention where we have already been, and was hoping to get new ideas for where to go. i mentioned the mileage just to set a limit, so i do not hear Grand canyon, Southern CA and such.
Ausable Chasm was a new place we had not thought of.
So . . . keep the ideas coming. Looking for a nice, clean family friendly CG with Full Hook-up with a few things for kids to do. Pool and bike rideing would do the trick. We do not want to spend the $90/night. Its just not worth the extra $$ to us.

RE: Camping ideas within 500 miles of Syracuse NY

We have a seasonal site at Ausable Chasm that we use as a based for our travels in the Adirondacks which is a beautiful part of NY state with a ton of things to see in the region.

I just looked at the RV Park Reviews for this CG. Is this an accurate depiction?

Camping ideas within 500 miles of Syracuse NY

Hi everyone.
We are looking for advise on a destination for a family camping trip for approximately 7-9 days this summer.
Prefer a full hook-up location(due to length of stay and i do not want to deal with full tanks). And a pool/lake to keep two daughters happy and ride bikes. Our daughters will be 5 and 7.
We camp mostly in a "theme park' type campgrounds that offer non stop activities all day long and just do not want to spend that kind of money anymore. $90/night is not a possibility.
We do not need a place that has laser tag, 18 hole mini golf or jet boat rentals.
Looking for a clean, beautifuly kept, scenic location that we can explore the surrounding area.
Thanks for the suggestions.

RE: How do you carry your bikes?

Thanks for the info everyone. Sounds like I have a few options. I think I want to stay away from putting the bikes inside. I fear that i may damage something other than the bike.
I like the idea of the front mount off the pin box, but wonder about bugs and keeping the bikes clean. We went on a 6k miles trip West this summer and can only imagine what the bikes would have looked like everytime we stopped. YIKES!!!
I see a few newer 5'ers that have a "pull-out" style tray that can hold bikes near the rear bumper. Has anyone else seen oun of these units or installed one after market on their unit?
Appreciate the info.

Maine Campground Suggestions

Hi everyone,
I am looking for suggestions for a Campground in Maine near the ocean. We do not have a particular area in mind as we plan to explore where ever we end up. Location does not matter that much as long as we are able to drive a short bit to explore.
I have 2 daughters under the age of 7 and will be with other families that also have young kids.
Looking for a campground that has full Hook-ups, and family oriented.
Let me know what you think.

How do you carry your bikes?

Looking for ideas on the best(safest) way to carry 4 bicycles on our 5th wheel.
Two are adult size and two are child size(for now).
Currently I am using a 2-place bike rack that bolts to the rear bumper of the RV and the other two bikes are put in the bed of my truck near the tailgate.
My concern is the placement of the bikes in the bed. They do not fit very well and I seem to be destroying the bikes.
I am looking for a safe way to transport the bikes without damaging the bikes.
I appreciate any ideas you all have and pics would be great.
Thanks,

New England States trip Summer 2012 planning help

Hello All,
I am just starting to plan our Summer 2012 trip. Looking to spend about 2-3 weeks in the new England states. Home is Central(Syracuse) NY.
We want to include the Bay of Fundy into our trip. Not sure what our options are for seeing the area as far as where to stay. meaning do we camp in the US and take a day trip to the bay of Fundy ??
We would like to see as many of the states as possible. So routes and highlights would be great.
Any information is greatly appreciated. By the way, we are looking for Full Hookup and travel in a 39' 5th wheel.
Thanks,

RE: Waste valves

I see the same type of valve as what I have, that is electrically operated. But I think that design is flawed. I am looking for a "ball-valve". Seems like I have never had one of them fail before.

RE: Waste valves

Yes. All 3 valve have extension cables on them. I'm guessing 8-10' long. I can only find one valve, the other two are hidden out of sight.
Does anyone make a electro-mechanical operated unit. I think I just invented something. Open the valve by the flip of a switch.

RE: Waste valves

A little more information.
I have always let each tank nearly fill before draining. Also, I always flush my black tank until the water is clear on discharge.
We stay in the RV on average about 65-70 nights/year. And 95% of the time we are at full hookup sites.
I first noticed a problem about a month ago when I was filling the shower holding tank by letting the shower water run. I went out side and heard water running on the ground. Long story short, I had to cut the underbelly to find the hose clamp on the inlet side of the grey water tank had come loose, allowing the hose to come disconnected from the tank. Dumping a full tank of grey water on the ground. I did the repair and then brought the RV for warranty repair.
Since then, the valve on that tank(grey#1, shower) does not close or open. The valve seems to be stuck in the middle.
I have also noticed that the valve for black tank is starting to show signs of problems.
I am currently out of town for another week. I already called the dealer and advised them of the situation.
I was wondering if they were going replace the valves, if there might be a better option. I would like to install "ball valve" type valves. It seems like those last/operate forever.

Waste valves

I am having a problem with 2 of my 3 waste valves. One is stuck in the middle position. Not fully closed. The other one operates very hard to the point I think something may break.
Two questions.
Can these valves be replaced with better valves? Are different brands of valves that function better than OEM type?
Has anyone used the valve lubricant that you pour into the drain? How well does it work? Will this stuff make an existing problem go away?
Thanks for the info?

Possible route from Glacier NP to Syracuse, NY(Home)

Hello,
Looking for a few suggestions for routes from Glacier NP to Syracuse(Home).
We left Syracuse for the Badlands via I-80/90 then I-80 across South Dakota. So we have bben on that Interstate.
I would like to go home a different route( at least to Chicago).
The route I was planning was U.S. Highway 2 to Duluth, then South to I-35, into St. Paul and pick up I-94 to I-90.
I would like to drive around 350 miles per day. So any Full Hook-up Campgrounds around this route would be great. Most of the stops home will be overnight, but if there is a "Must See" stop, we are a little flexiable.
Any and all suggestions about this route or another route from Glacier to Syracuse, NY are very much appreciated.

RE: Best route from Estes Park, CO to Colter Bay, WY

I know it's a long day, but wanted to be able to spend more time at our destination. The kids are wonderful on longer trips like that, as we stop often to see things along the way. I try not to go much more than that if possible?
I'm looking for elevations along the way, just to be prepared so I know what to expect. Our 5th wheel is nearly 15k loaded.
