RE: My 2 stroke outboard isn't running right

Get a cheapie timing light and leave it connected next time out. If it goes out at the same time you lose power it is not the carb or fuel system.

RE: They Should Charge Extra For This!

Another good spot is Riverview RV Park in North Pole AK. Not too far off the runway at Eielson AFB. Watched a C17 (I think but I've been out for a long time) doing circuits & bumps. Close enough that I could read his tail #90168. Also a pair of F16's (again I think) but beautiful to watch.

edit to C17 thanks to smkettner's post.:)

RE: Nev-R-Adjust Brakes

I have 6K drop axles which makes adusting next to impossible. Put on a set of 7K Nev R Adjust. Took about 10 miles driving and touching the brakes to bring them up, and so far works very well.
Also put on wet bolts for the second time. This time I took a Dremel with a 1/8 ball-end cutter and made a groove around the center line circumfrence. Much easier to grease. Besides I always wanted a Dremel and this use passed the finance dept easiest. :B

RE: Window 7. Can't run back up

How many gigs are you trying to backup? How many restore points are saved. What type external drive and connection ( USB or Sata)? And not to insult but System Mechanic can really screwup really quick if you are not well versed in the use. CCleaner and Malwarebyte are a lot easier to use & both have free programs.

Had to smile at your recall. We always knew of that lever with the curved point as a "church key" and I still use my Simson 270, way better than digital

RE: Balancing Tires

You will not feel any difference at all balanced or not when towing, but things like dishes and stuff will stay in the cupboards a heck of a lot better. And as others have noted less wear and tear on the running gear

RE: broken jerk fitting in wet bolt

"If you ever have an issue with a zerk not taking grease, try loosening the nut and turning the bolt slightly"
Quickest way to screw up the shackle plate. The bolts are splined so they won't rotate and cause wear to the links.

RE: Onan 5500 generator propane problems

If they used the RV regulator for the genset it is probably too small. Idealy run a high pressure line from the tank to the genset with a proper sized regulator close to the genset'

RE: The company is getting me a new van

southernkilowatt wrote
"I'm so aggrivated I could spit nails. They say its better on gas, blah blah blah whatever. Is it so much better on gas that it covers the three or four trips a day that I'll be making to the parts house to get what I need because I dont have room to haul it all at one time? I'm not even sure that it will haul half of what I have now, much less a couple of boxes of 30x30x2 air filters for one of the 50 ton HVAC units I have to maintain."
And wait until next year when purchasing says "look at all the money we save the company. It is the service department the needs an overhaul"
Seen it happen but luckily the top brass saw what was going on and turfed the manager.

RE: More on Tire Valves...

It does not take long to learn to turn off the Hawkshead as you are pulling in for fuel or whatever. Turn on again as you are pulling out and it works well. Saved me twice on the shale up past Eagle Plains.

RE: Metal Valve Stem maintenance

gandude,
You have it right, and another thing that will save grief later on is to put a drop of GREEN Loc-tite (thats the one that goes on after the fastner is assembled) on the threads after the nut is properly tightened.

RE: Black Tank Connection

Clean mateing surfaces and scuff sand. Wipe a good coat of urethane caulking (not glue as caulking will remain flexible) spray a mist of water on one of the coated surfaces, and reasemble. Will be good to use after 12 hours. Did mine almost ten years ago and still perfect. The reason for the water is to cure the urethane. As a side note the tank is probably HDPE and will not glue.

RE: Ball vs kingpin

"Anderson's new ultimate fifth wheel hitch has me thinking about this because they basically take a fiver kingpin and make it a ball coupler. Why would they do this if a fifth wheel is more secure "
All they have done is turn it into an expensive goose neck conversion and you will still need safety chains to be legal.

RE: Gravity heater problems

If you can't light the pilot flame the problem is the small bypass orfice in the control itself. Obviously the thermocouple would allow the burner to light if the pilot flame was on.
