RE: Trip Report: Death Valley in March

I loved DV also. We also drove to Ash Meadows NWR and that was amazing. The road in and out is a bit like a washboard but the springs were so blue it was just amazing. Love Scottys Castle tour also

RE: Our first cross country rv trip

Your getting good advise. Our first trip I had it all planned out, where to stay and what to see. Unfortunately one day delay changed everything. Since then we have winged it. We just head out making reservations in the am before we leave for the next spot along the way. It has worked well for us and if we want to stop for a few days we can do that. If we are not sure when we want to stop, we might wait til noon and then make the decision. Its our no stress way to go

Curlew State Park,WA

Can anyone tell me what Curlew State Park is like end of June and first of July? Are there usually spaces or does it get pretty crowded.
Thanks

RE: Best route to Big Bear Lake in summer

The road from Lucerne up to Big Bear is narrow and twisty but I've never seen any signs restricting trailers and its sure a lot faster. The other way is really a long way around but a better road.
I would call the trailer park and ask them.

RE: locked out of Suburban

I have no idea if this works, but I was told that if you call someone who has a spare key, (like call home) you can hold the phone up to the car and they can press the unlock button and the car will unlock itself. It kind of makes sence. Has anyone tried it?

RE: I'm bragging - taking off weight !

I'm down 40 pounds but I'm not on a diet, I decided after watching Forks over Knives that I was going to go on a plant based diet. That was July 2011 and I love it. I'm off all meds that I've been on for years. It's certainly not for everyone, but I find the food is delicious and my energy is like I was 30 again. I really recommend it.

The one thing I really miss is having a little garden growning. Does anyone do herbs or a tomato plant or ?? How does it work for you.
Do you have any luck

RE: Lodge Cast Iron or Cabelas, any others?

I've never purchased a new cast iron pan. I find them at garage sales all the time and geneally for less than 10 dollars. LOL, I have some no-name brands and some Lodges and they all are so nice. I don't even own a non-stick pan any longer. Nothing sticks in my old pans.

RE: Why do many restaurants make unsatisfactory meals ?

My rule of thumb is to 1) avoid chains. 2)try the restaurant with the most cars in front. Rarely disappointed in the food.

RE: I'm going Camping at.........

Work schedule what it is and traveling for the company, I,sadly, have no plans for the year. I'm hoping that after May I can just get into the rig and head east. I'd like to do a loop trip thru New Mexico that I read about in Sunset Magazine a few years back. It started at 4 corners, headed south all the way to Silver City and the back north to Albuqueque and Santa Fe. Of course if gas is over $5. Ill travel probably go explore Montana instead or Utah or the Oregon Coast or maybe sit in my back yard.

Do you have a favorite National Park

Would be to camp out at every National Park in the US, punctuate by any State Parks in the way. Does anyone have a favorite that you would go back to at the drop of a dime.

RE: Mojave National Preserve

I was just there last month: Not to camp but drove thru and it was so nice, lots to see, weather was warm, crowds were thin. You can dry camp anywhere where there is already a fire-ring in place so if you want solitude, you'll certainly find it.
I stopped in Kelso and had a slice of pie-ala-mode at the old-fashioned, restored lunch counter and drove to the dunes to see if I could hear the humming they are noted for. A real must visit)
Owl Canyon is just outside of Barstow and I was so surprized at how nice and clean and well maintained it was. There is water available and some nice hikes. The cost is $6. a night unless you have a Senior pass and then its $3. BUT I can't see staying there long as there is little to do after you have hiked the trails to Rainbow and to see the camel footprint fossils.
Afton is a nice campground also but last I heard the road to the dam/water/river was 4 wheel drive only.
Hole-in-the-Wall was the most unique and had some hikes but not for these old bones The campground above Hole isn't recommended for RVs. Its higher than the rest, so I would pack warm clothes for the cool nights.
If you drive thru Barstow on the way, stop at the Mojave Headquarters for more ideas. (Its at I15, and the Hwy 247 exit) and you go to Barstow without visiting the Route 66 and Railroad museum.
I took I40 and Route 66 east out of Barstow and that was kind of fun, especially if you stop and get a road quide to point out the sites. But beyond Ludlow 66 is a washboard and not much to see or do. Get back on I 40 to the KelBaker Road exit.
Have fun.

RE: Yellowstone at the end of Summar too cold?

Oh, I thought you were talking about late Sept and I was going to tell you thats the best time to go, fewer crowds, more space, and just bring warm clothes and be prepared for a snow flurry or two.

When I read posts like this,I feel this undercurrent of politics and I don't like that on an RV forum.

RE: Friends asking advice

I think when looking for a RV, especially used, you just need to get out there and look to see what is available and what will fit your families needs. BUT I would think a slide would be a must just for space.

RE: How long does your battery last?

We also have a solar system and generator and have never had a battery issue. We run out of water and propane before we lose electricity. I think its an investment worth considering if you plan to do a lot or any dry camping. We live in Washington State where its gray most of the day.

RE: RV for family of 4, new to RVing, THOR ACE?

If I were buying another RV, and if there were 4 of us, I would get one of thoes new RV's with two bathrooms. That, to me, would be pure luxory.
I would never buy a brand new rig. Lots of folks do and put 10000 miles on them and then descide they don't like the lifestyle. Our friends just purchased a nearly new Class A and it looked and smelled brand new and they got a real deal.
Depending on the kind of camping your planning to do makes a difference also, especially on the size of your fresh water tanks. If you dream of camping dry, you might want to invest in some solar panels, and you want as big fresh water etc. On the other hand, if you dream of RV resort type places that won't be an issue. If you want to explore over the mountain, you don't want a 45 footer.
Some RV's come with washer dryers and with a new baby that might not be a bad idea. They are small and don't hold much, but it might be something to consider.
Enjoy
We had a Cla
