RE: Sunseeker 3100 Negatives?

I agree with Mike. And even though I am travelling solo more than I ever have, I think the 3170 has a great layout and I enjoy the space. I think the middle bunks offer great options for sleeping and/or TV use and casual storage if need be.

RE: Cabcover vs. Non-Cabcover

I bought my C knowing full well my sons would no longer be regularly going with me and I do not have a line at the door of folks who want to go. However, my desire was to have more sleeping/storage/living space than I would need for myself. I love having a queen bed cabover with a fiberglass cap and no front window.

RE: Why don't more families "motorhome" vs "travel trailer"?

I was a very bad boy last February when I went to a RV show. I loved my 2006 21SS ROO, outfitted with gizmos, gadgets and paid for. Great memories and easy to tow with my 2002 F150, also paid for. My oldest finishes up college this year and my youngest works full-time. Although still enjoying my 30 year career as a LEO, I had the itch to go almost full-time in a few years. So, instead of allowing common sense to prevail, I bought my Class C, knowing full well I would assume a RV mortgage, have additional insurance and repair costs as well as not having a toad at my disposal on demand while on the road, for now. However, I have enjoyed my first 4000 miles, countless hours puttering in and around the MH as well as many nights in Camp Driveway. More so, I have headed out to destinations that normally I may have spent money for a hotel, but now 'camp' out in a friend's driveway or at a CG and just hitch a ride. Sure, you can do all that with a TT too and have a nice TV to do what you want. I guess I looked into the future a bit as well as utility for a RV lifestyle on the road.
I know I could have purchased a new(er) TT and TV at the same time for less. Suffice it to say that I work hard and play hard and darn it, I want to do what I want to do! I believe we all make our RV choices for the reasons that are right for us at the time.

RE: dolly vs 4 down

Just did a nice, easy browse of the Acme. Kinda funny given the Acme name. I almost expected the Roadrunner and Wiley Coyote to pop up with explosives. Very cut and dry item. No pretention. WYSIWYG. And I thought when my 4000W generator was shipped that was interesting. This will be even more so to accept delivery at home!

RE: dolly vs 4 down

And I am in that nether world of what to do in so many ways. Had the MH for over a year now. My other vehicle is a 2002 F-150 that is not ready to bite the dust with only 89,000 on it. For the most part when I head out every month for extended trips I have friends that can take me here or there as needed. However, I am getting to the point of being itchy for cross country travels. A dolly gives me the ability to grab a car from one of my sons when they don't need it per their lifestyles. I really do not want to buy a car for 4 down towing and have yet another vehicle to park and maintain (without getting rid of the truck). Some folks have suggested renting a car at destinations that necessitate touristy or practical transportation. I know there are disadvantages to a dolly, perhaps less regarding storage by getting a folding one. Backing a rig with anything behind it can be a test for sure. And yes, it does take a few more motions to get a car on/off a dolly. So, here I am still trying to weigh the pros and cons. But, it does not keep me from hitting the road every three weeks!

RE: Anyone have experience with Forest River Sunseeker?

2011- 3170DSF. Yep. Rides a little rough but that was not unexpected. Some minor cosmetic issues one would rather have fixed/addressed for the purchase price paid but you just move on and either fix it or forget about it. A year later I am still pleased with mine.

RE: New RV'r looking for help on extended warranty

I am currently looking into an extended 6 year warranty that includes tires/wheels. Even with a $250 deductible the total cost per year is almost what a new tire might cost me on the road without a policy. As already mentioned, it is a risk venture. If your RV holds up 'forever' so be it. I have a great relationship with the RV repair shop I deal with as I do not work with the dealer I bought it from. I have seen many units coming in and their issues. When I learn the total cost to repair/replace in those units I do believe an extended warranty will work for me, unless of course there is a smoke and mirrors scenario.

RE: Considering upgrade from TT

From two PUPs to a 2006 ROO 21SS and now the Sunseeker. Out on the road every chance I get and also Camp Driveway whenever the urge is there. During Hurricane Irene I lived in it for 6 days while the power was out. There are pros and cons but right now I am pleased with the change.

RE: Cable TV

Yes, exactly.
Whenever I am having difficulty getting any good channels on a cable hook-up the first thing I check is the antenna booster. When it is left on it defeats the cable signal. Of course checking all the coax connections is important as well.

RE: The best thing about a "C".....

I am still in the transition/learning curve process. But after 7 trips already this year and many more booked I am having a great time. I have not yet experienced the pull in at oh-dark-thirty with no need to set-up or leaving in the AM with nothing to do but unhook the electric. I still like to put out a lot of stuff even on a weekend. I am looking forward to extended road trips and spur of the moment ones and know the MH will be great for that.

RE: Windsheild Cover?

Although I gave away all my Reflectix inserts for the ROO I still had enough left over to do the cab over bunk, all three roof vents, the master bedroom and the bathroom skylight. The latter creates enough heat to feel like the bathroom is on the Sun! The Reflectix is then removed as necessary while camping.

RE: Onan Generator PDF Links (free service manuals)

Thanks for the info. Fortunately since my MH is only 6 months old I can still find my original manual!

RE: Windsheild Cover?

I bought the ADCO cover soon after my purchase as I realized the standard privacy curtain did a good job but was not fully functional. I bought the model with the screened panels and love it. Easy on/off and boy does it reduce the temps in the cab from the sun beating on the windshield.

Yeppers. That is what both of mine do. Took a little getting used to compared to the super slide on my ROO.

RE: replacing onan onboard generator

Interesting that you would post this. I just got done running my on board and also my portable genny for the monthly 2 hours. I was discussing the same thing with a neighbor more so regarding the Honda type genny which are of course much quieter. I am not a techie but I would think a true portable genny might not hold up given the 'on the road' experience. However, I may be wrong. Guess there will be some here that have modified or exchanged one and we'll learn.

RE: Class C Pros and Cons

I would offer that although I do not have "buyer's remorse" regarding my Class C has been a learning curve. Two PUPs and a ROO 21SS were always easy to tow but a lot of energy in setting up. I also have logistic issues with my driveway access. I really wanted a new 32' TT or 5er which would have required a truck upgrade as well. Getting the MH into my driveway is a bit easier. Currently I do not have a toad but while camping with friends and/or proper trip planning I manage. My MH has become my Mobile Man Cave.

RE: Leveling a Class C

I have noticed leveling the RV has been a bit more difficult from time to time than a TT. I am still on the learning curve regarding how the front end seems to sit lower than the rest of the RV after I believe I am level. Nothing extreme mind you but I know I am off. Auto levelers would have been nice but I am saving my money for a toad!

RE: generator

I was surprised when I discovered the over cab/dinette flat screen TV was not on 12V. The two TVs in the back are. An inexpensive converter from Amazon.com did the trick with no sine wave issues for the TV or any other electronic device Forest River did install two 12V receptacles in that area of the RV which was better than needing to plug it into the dashboard receptacles. On another note, I know folks mention using their generator while driving when using the living area A/C for passenger comfort. So far I have found the cab A/C working to the back extremely well on several longer trips.

RE: How often do you use your shower?

I had my ROO five seasons and I always took a shower in it. Even when CG bath houses are 5 star rated there is something to be said about privacy before and after as well as convenience.

RE: the time may have come

The 3170DSF is not a bunk model but has the extra sleeping space in the Kid's Zone. I love it even though my kids are grown and no longer come with me on most trips. I bought it for possibilities rather than limitations.
