RE: Diesel or Gas, why is this a big thing for me?

Another consideration, relative to fuel stops is that diesels often have larger tanks. I can go 1200 miles between fuels stops which eases the planning somewhat.

RE: Montreal to Acadia NP, ME

Take 141 and cross the border at Hereford. Then 26 to Newry. Then 2 to 95. Then 395 out of Bangor to 1A. I've done the entire route and it's pretty. The border crossing in Hereford isn't bad but you'll need passports.
Are you driving a car, motorhome or towing? Looking for a CG or motel?

RE: efficiency of house fridges in rvs

Pick out the size and style fridge you want then find the highest energy star rated one like that you can find. The real efficiency will be more a function of how many times you open it and what the average ambient temp. is then the energy rating. But I would still find the most efficient one you can that does your job.

RE: Towing a 2007 4x4 Silverado

We tow a 05 GMC Sierra 4X4. You put the transfer case in N, the transmission in P, remove the key, it does NOT have a steering lock, lock the doors and it's ready to tow. There are NO restrictions on speed or distance, NO fuses to pull and it tows very easy. For brakes, we use a classic 12+ year old Brake Buddy set at the highest position for panic stop only. It is NOT a light vehicle, as ours scales at close to 6000#, ready to tow, but it is the best toad we have ever had.
We have an '05 Silverado 1500 and our procedure is identical and we use the same Brake Buddy. I've towed the truck thousands of miles all across the U.S.

Mama Gerties and Campfire Lodgings are both excellent CG's.

RE: New Hampshire

I haven't been to that CG but the reviews on rvparkreviews aren't good. We love a CG about 10 miles north of Rochester in Milton.
mi-te-jo's campground
You can't go wrong there.
It would help if we knew where in NH you are going. If you could venture out further into the Lakes Region, Meredith Woods is nice. Ellacoya State park is right on Winnipesaukee and is beautiful. Danforth Bay in Ossipee is nice and there are a lot of great State Parks up in the White Mountains.

RE: Why "All Electric"

On the upside, all electric motorhomes can allow you to use a conventional residential refrigerator in your motorhome without encountering any problems. You also don't have to worry about traveling around with propane. But the thing is, for everything to work, you'll need 50amp electric hookups to get everything up and running. On that part, that can really limit the campgrounds you visit.
We've had 2 all electric MH's and often stay at CG's that only have 30 amps. We can't run 4 AC's on 30 amps, but that really has nothing to do with being all electric.

You might also look at the Wild Duck CG near Bailey's. Sites are pretty and it's quiet. Adults only though.

RE: Half vs. 3/4, Chevy vs. Ford

We have a Chevy 1500, extended cab with the regular bed. We have the 5.3 and the older tranny. I love the 5.3. I get 20 mpg highway and 17.5 around town with AC. I have a utility trailer I tow that weighs more then your trailer and it does it no problem. The ride empty is good and loaded it's real good.
By the way, I have a rampage lift in the 6.5' bed and haul a screaming eagle ElectraGlide on it.

RE: fidge temp too cold

549 ohms should have read just that on that scale. Try shorting the leads together and see what the reading is. I think your thermistor is shorted.

RE: Chas -> Newport RI

Since you're going to Newport, Rhode Island, in a truck camper on a weekend, I'd just stay on 95. If an of these things change I'd go 95 to 17 to 81 to 78. Or 26 to 77 to 81 to 78.

RE: Tire Pressure-Sidewall number, or number on trailer?

I've always understood the correct inflation for a tire requires weighing the axle and then looking up the correct inflation in the manufactures data. The only time to run at max sidewall pressure is if your tire is carrying it's max rated load.
My guess is KZ weighed that configuration and checked the charts to find the correct weight and that's what they recommend. I would read into their number that the axle is carrying a load quite a bit below what it's rated for which is good.

RE: Patching Fiberglass Roof After Item Removal

I've used Bondo on fiberglass and it has a different rate of expansion and contraction i.e. it cracks at the edge. Try a fiberglass based Bondo or a Fiberglass repair kit.

RE: Camp site in KY>>>> Help!!!

I understand your angst, but we've made reservations many times without a confirm# or deposit and never had a problem. We just may have been lucky. I suspect the CG knows they won't be crowed during the time you made reservations though. If they knew they would be filled, they'd want to make sure you showed up so they didn't lose the rental.

RE: Small motorcycle carrier

The hitch weight is for a ball mounting, which can't put any twisting moment on the hitch. It's a straight vertical movement.
If you mount a motorcycle to a lift on that hitch it will have a twisting component because it's not on a ball. It will fail quickly. You need a lift that uses two mounting points to the rear of the MH to eliminate the twisting moment.
Look at Cruiser lift or Overbit lift or Blue Ox.

RE: Will I be able to tow this??????

I have an '05 1/2 ton Silverado with the 5.3 engine and it has I believe the 3.53? rear end. I have pulled our 30' utility trailer with a car and motorcycle in it. That weighs just about what yours does. The 5.3 is an amazing engine. It doesn't win any races but it's not white knuckle driving either.

RE: Residential fridge questions......

We had a Whirlpool and now have a Fridgedaire residential fridge. Both work great and both had water and icemaker. We use both. We have a whole house filter and fridge filter. Love the icemaker and water in the door.
