RE: Gila CLiff Dwellings Nat'l Mon. in NM

We toured the area from a nice cg in Las Cruces. It is called La Hacienda and it's very near to old mesilla.

RE: Moose Hillcock Campground NH Recommendation?

Really nice CG in the middle of nowhere. It would be nice to take the kids out for a day and show them the white mountain region. Head up to Franconia and from there go to MT Washington.

RE: Newfoundland 2012

We visited Newfoundland last year. We started in Port aux Basque, went to Gros Morne then to St. Johns and came back to the Port aux Basque and took that ferry back. We had a toad, so the total miles on the MH were about 1500 in Newfoundland (excluding getting there). We used the toad to take day trips from our campground including Labrador. We probably put another 1500 miles on the toad. We spent 30 days on the rock and loved every minute of it. The people are amazing.

RE: How to seat 3 adults, 2 kids in a MH safely?

There is no way to secure a recliner to the floor solidly enough to have it safe in a crash. I would put seat belts of the rearward seat in the dinette. Our MH has them there. The MH is much more likely to come to a fast halt then a quick start, hence the rear facing seat belts are the safest in the dinette.

RE: Motorhome fires

MH's have not only engines but also gas or diesel and large storage batteries. They are also more complicated.

RE: Crossed Safety Chains - State Law vs. Towbar design

The purpose of crossing the chains is to keep the front of a trailer from dropping to the pavement which causes the trailer to ride up and over the front. If you run the chains per Roadmasters method the chains are in the tow bar so it can't fall to the ground. There's no need to cross chains.

RE: Hilton Head Island. S.C.

I'll second the HHI harbor rv resort. It's the only one on the island that can take a TT. I think in April they will space for a drop in.

RE: Is There A Digital Level?

I use an app on my Iphone to level the MH. Do a search in apps for Clinometer. It is one of the best apps I've got.

RE: Las Cruces NM

We always stay at Hacienda and love it. It's very close to old Mesilla and the highway. The area has tons of things to see and do.

RE: Campground Accessibility question

We've had 40' to 45' MH and neither represented a problem finding a CG in an area we wanted to stay.

RE: F150 vs Silverado 1500

I have the 5.3 in a Silverado and on the highway with no AC I consistently get 20 mpg. In Florida, with the AC running constantly, I get 17.5 mpg. If I have a motorcycle in the bed of the truck I get 13 mpg. If I tow a 4500 pound trailer, I get 13 mpg.

RE: To tag or not to tag? Axel that is......

I've had a 40' non tag and two 45' tags. I don't see a lot of difference between them except the tag is much more stable on the highway. It wants to go straight. I haven't seen a lot of difference in terms of CG availability either.

RE: Why did you have a blow out?

I've had one blow out and it was on the tag. I know the inflation was correct because I checked it that morning and it was the tread that peeled off. The tire was still correctly filled after the tread peeled off. The cause, in my opinion would be age. We bought the MH used a few of months prior to the blow out and the tires were checked by Millennium and Prevost (not pulled off for internal inspection). Both said the tires were good. The tires were flipped so difficult to read date code. The tire that blew was dated 2003 and was 7 years old at the time. I now know Michelin says replace the tires after 5 years or pull them and inspect the inside every year. Toss them at 10 years.

RE: Is five years to long to run front tires

While no one can predict blowouts nor can anyone on here tell you whether your tires are still safe to use, if you're concerned then you can have them inspected by a reputable truck tire shop. The tires should be dismounted and inspected from the inside. Any cracks showing on the outside would be a red flag to me. Close inspection may reveal cracks in the treads and around the sidewalls....make sure you have a reputable tire shop do the inspection....Dennis This is what I would do also. A representative from Michelin gave a talk at one of our rally's and and he said the same as the above. After 5 years, the tires must be removed and inspected from the inside - every year of continued use. After 10 scrap them. Many people feel it's not worth the effort to remove and inspect every year and get new tires after 5 years.

RE: To TPMS, or not to TPMS

We also have the TST system. We couldn't use it for awhile since we couldn't find good valve extenders. Right now everything is working well and I like knowing what's going on with the MH and toad tires. We use a repeater.
