RE: Hunting

I go water fowl hunting in the midwest every fall. Each trip last about a month. I look forward to it every year.

RE: Rt 60 Bridges

Four years ago I took the rt 60 bridge over the Mississippi west bound with the rig you see below. It is an old structure with very narrow lanes. It takes some good driving if you meet a truck going the other way, but it was doable.

RE: DC / AC switching

Your convertor should provide the regulation so as not to fry your battery. I have my fiver parked next to the house and it is plugged in all the time and the battery on line. The battery I have now has been in there five years and still holding a good charge whenever we unplug the AC cord.

What sort of camp grounds do you go to. We have never had a need for a screeching alarm.

RE: HPFP ??

If your truck is stock I don't know why you would have to worry about the warranty. I have never had any warranty issues with Ford. They always have come thru for me.

RE: Cross-Country Trip - What do I need to know?

I carry a complete set of tools to do any repairs that might occur such as water pipe leaks, hitch problems, electrical problems, awning problems, window problems etc. Anything that moves or conveys water, electricity or whatever can be subject to failure and a set of tools makes it handy to fix on the spot.
But,that is me. Any of these can be fixed at an RV garage, but at a loss of time and money.

RE: Minnesota, South Dakota, bank interest & taxes

To be a state resident you have to do something to show residency. Have a domicle in South Dakota and paying property taxes is a sure fire way to residency. Another, is having your vehicles registered in South Dakota and having a South Dakota drivers license. At the moment, as you haven't said you have done any of these, I would would say that, legally, you are still a Minnesota resident.
You could call the local South Dakota Supervisor of Elections and see what it takes to be recognized as a resident of South Dakota.
If you are a South Dakota resident it doesn't matter where your money is at. But, you may have to pay some sort of South Dakota tax on your money if South Dakota taxes capital gains, etc.

RE: Can I cut a hole in the side of a Journey

Before you start cutting LEARN what it is you will be cutting through. It is just not as easy as cutting a hole through a sheet of fiberglass. I have cut holes in my fiver, but from seeing it built at the factory I had a really good idea what I was cutting into. If you know how apart the studs are you could design an entertainment center that would just fit between two studs.

RE: Re-seal and uv treatment rubber roof

Your rubber roof already has "built-in" all the UV protection it needs. Adding, more is overkill. Washing is nice, but it will not prolong the life of the rubber roof. Resealing is good if your talking about recaulking everything, but if your talking about painting something over the whole roof it is certainly not needed.
Rubber roofs will probably last 15 to 20 years without any washing or other compounds put on them. Washing makes the look nice, but doesn't necessarily extend the service life.
What is most important tho is to make sure all the seams along the edges and the areas around things that stick down through the roof and out of the roof are solidly sealed.

RE: Walmart parking lot stays - need advice please

Standard quote "In my humble opinion". You may be overplanning your trip. We never make reservations unless it is on the weekend over a holiday. We have never had any trouble just showing up a campground and getting a space. Even if it is the campgrounds worst space it will still be better than a walmart parking lot.

RE: Installed 2nd AC but no air coming through ducts---UPDATE

I am not sure how you hooked up your AC. Is the hole where the fantastic fan used to be now the return air plenum for the new AC? And, then how did you hook up the cold air outlet of your new AC unit? I assume, from what you wrote, that you hooked the cold air outlet of the new AC into the present AC ducting? It's all sort of confusing.

RE: Treating rubber seals around Slides

I don't know about chenging or treating the seals. Our Cameo, with over 90,000 miles on it, is 12 years old and the rubber seals are still working great. I have never treated them with anything.

RE: Should be get new tires

I would say diffinately replace the "Marathon" tires. You didn't mention what size your fiver is, but I don't hold Goodyear Marathon tires in very high regard regardless of the size of your trailer. For piece of mind go out and buy the highest load rated steel belted tires you can. You will regret not changing out those Marathon tires when they start flying apart on a hot summer day.
Since you have 16 inch rims, if your axle and rims are rated high. enough you could have complete piece of mind with Michilin XPS ribbed tires. In my estimation these are the very best tires you can put on a fiver.

RE: Want do you think of this Combo

Other than legal isssues should you be unfortunate enough to have an accident I don't see why you couldn't accomplish these limited tows with your truck. Now if you have to tow up some step grades you might be under powered.

RE: Blew 2 Tires Within 100 miles!

I used to have tire problems like this. The tires were not overloaded and I always checked the pressure before each days drive. After a while, I began to discover that my tires could not take running over a raised object. It broke the cords inside and then a few hundred miles later BAM the cords would break and the tire would shred and damage the wheel well.
I finally solved my problem by going to expensive Micheline XPS ribbed tires. These things don't break the cords inside even if you run over something. Unfortunately I don't think they make this tire to fit a 15 inch rim.
My suggestion would be to get the highest weight rated, steel belted tire you can that will fit your rim. And, buy the best you can regardless of cost, because if you prevent one tire failure the tires will have paid for themselves.

RE: Springdale riding too low

I am not an expert on this, but I do have some experience with springs. And, yes, your springs should have an upward bow. I think that you could solve your leveling problem and your overload spring problem with new springs.

If they are not leaking I wouldn't bother, but if you do need to seal window a small bead of clear silicon around all the edges will work.

RE: Will it Fit?

Why are you asking if it will fit after you already purchased the truck? Now that you have the truck back up to your fiver and do some measurements on your own. In my estimation is it won't fit.
