RE: What gauge wire to use for adding another battery bank

Definitly PARALLEL, and 4 guage is good.

RE: Battery Question - change from Group 29 to 27?

Sure it's okay. The 27's will not last as long dry camping, but if you don't dry camp they'll be fine. We ran 27's for years beacuse they were the "standard". I have 29's now because we like to dry camp for 3 or 4 nights.

RE: Splicing in to 12 volt electrical

Just watch the amperage load you intend to add to ensure that the place you're tapping is adaquate (wire size and fuse rating). You may want to consider including an inline fuse in your spliced take-off.

RE: Portable Propane Grill

Weber BabyQ from Amazon.com. Will never have anything else again.

RE: champion 4000 generator 240 volt

Check amperage on 220v item. A 4000 watt generator produces proximately 16 amps at 240v (e=ir), or watts = amps time volts, amps = watts divided by volts, etc., so check the amperage or wattage of what you want to power.

RE: electrical cord storage

I know you said you didn't want to cut the cord, BUT, I cut mine and used waterproof 30 amp twist lock connectors from West Marine (big bucks), but I now store the cord with hoses, etc. VERY convenient, and the little short cord fits right in to the little trailer hidey hole, even when it's cold out and the cord bends like re-bar. I even carry a LONGER cord with the same twistlock if I need to reach further.

RE: Is this over weight

RE: keyless entry upgrade

I checked with my local locksmith and he said door thickness was a problem, so I lost interest. Keep us posted please as I'd love to not have to worry about losing the door key while we're out and about.

RE: solar panels

Three 45 watt panels is only 135 watts, not a lot of solar depending upon your 12v usage (lights, furnace, etc.)

RE: Drying sheets on low

That's why we buy King sheets for our Queen bed!

RE: LED Lights

Considering the cost of LEDs and the fact that brake lights and turn signals and running lights only get used with the engine running and providing power it makes no sense to me to change from incandescent to LED. Why bother??? There is no way you'll get better mileage!

RE: tire inflation should be as shown on yellow sticker, right?

Look at the tire side wall and inflate to the max cold. Under inflation causes heat buildup and catastrophic tire failure (aka blowout). The trailer sticker is as often as not meaningless. Case in point - Ford Explorers stickers suggested a lower pressure for a softer ride that resulted in loss of control in abrupt higher speed maneuvers. Do what the TIRE sidewall says!!! ...and since most trailers are run close to the max weight, you want the tires at max as that's where they safely support the most weight..

RE: G'day from Downunder

Welcome Ozjohn! My wife and I spent a year in the Sydney area in '83-'84 and LOVED it. We were too busy working to do any RVing but we'd love to come back and spend a year touring with a trailer. So many beautiful spots and awsome birds and critters. Gold Coast would be our first summer...

RE: Winter Camping and Batteries

If you are hooked up and using the trailer, by all means keep the battery in place and service it.

RE: Vehicle for towing 27ft Airstream travel trailer

I think either one would be fine. I've always been a Ford bigot, but in Feb I sold my '95 F-250 and went to a new GMC 1/2 ton. Both are great trucks. Go with the one you "like" best, if condition and mileage are similiar.

RE: wife reads alot!!!

We'd be lost without our nooks. We share an account so we both get copies of whatever either of us downloads, and we have similiar interests.

I've got great RV coverage from my home and auto insurance provider State Farm.

RE: I think my (diesel) truck was siphoned on an overnighter

I positively can't imagine someone risking being caught for the theft of $16 worth of diesel fuel. Just "doesn't make sense" to me. I really think your figures are a bit out of whack.
