RE: Is Quartsite the place to be?

Is it just me, or does anyone else kind of see a pitchfork in Dick's picture when they look at it? Nope, just you.

RE: 2012 ford focus

TOWDADDY Has harnesses, I didn't check but they may have one for the Focus. How do you like your Focus? My son got one in Dec. and really likes it.

RE: Towed jeep just fine, but then battery was dead

There are several things that could cause the battery to go dead. First of all, the Brake Buddy could be set too sensitive or hanging up. Secondly there could be a problem with a diode if you took that route. Thirdly you might have had the key on the wrong position. Discharging the battery should not happen if everything is set properly. No charge line should be necessary.

RE: Is Quartsite the place to be?

Nothing upscale at Quartzsite. The allure of Q. is the open desert, the swapmeets and RV show for one week in January, other than that, it's just desert camping. If you are looking for someplace like the RGV you would probably be more interested in the parks in the Phoenix/Mesa area, Tucson, or Casa Grande.

RE: How many miles would you travel in 1 day?

600 No way! That's a 12 hour day driving a car, about 16 or more towing a 5er. Since you have about a week on either side of your class I would suggest maybe 300 or so a day. If you push too many miles you will be beat by the time you get to the class. If you can work it, it would be nice if you could drive for a couple of days, then take a day off and do some sightseeing, a little R&R. 4-5 days of straight driving gets old for everyone.

RE: Camping at Mecca Copia Trail, Drop 31. Salton Sea

There's a good book about the Bradshaw Trail called Gold Road To La Paz by Delmer G. Ross which is a mile by mile guide with side trails. Where is "Little Rubicon"?

RE: Is April and May too early to go west?

You can still get snow in April, just watch the weather. May could be better.

RE: what toad

The best thing is to take all the choices given and drive each of the vehicles, then decide which one you like best. All of the vehicles given plus a bunch more will make good toads, but it's really up to you what you like. When I started looking for a toad, based on recommendations, I was ready to buy a CR-V, then I went to the LA car show where they had all the vehicles I was interested in, in one place. I got to sit in all of them and check out the fit and finish. I was very disappointed when I sat in the CR-V and my back immediately started hurting. The lumbar was just wrong for me. I ended up narrowing it down to the Jeep Liberty and the Vue, about the same weight and price, and ended up with the Liberty and have been happy with it. While at the car show I saw the Edge for the first time and really liked it but it was many $K more than the Liberty so I passed on it. I recently had a chance to get a good deal on an Edge, so and on Monday it will be set up to be towed. I got home a couple of days ago from Quartzsite and was amazed by the number of Libertys I saw there.

RE: Spring Training, Cactus League

Phoenix is a BIG city and the ballparks are spread out all over it. This year we will be spending 3 weeks there and hitting 9 of the 10 ballparks. Since the Brewers play in Maryvale which is on the north side you probably want to stay near there. McDowell regional park has gotten great reviews. You may have a problem getting a site if you wait too long to book. We are Angels fans and stay at Val Vista in Mesa which is on the south east side of Phoenix, so it's a bit of a drive to the parks on the northwest side but what else do we have to do? We will be at the Brewers game on the 18, maybe we'll see you there. ENJOY! MCDOWELL REGIONAL PARK

RE: what toad

I agree with others about Jeeps, but to each their own. At your size you might find the CR-V a little cramped. I would suggest looking at the Ford Edge, roomy and a nice ride, and lighter than a Jeep Liberty. I had a '85 Trooper and liked it but had a lot of mechanical problems with it.

RE: Provincial Parks sucked me in again

Boy are you making me feel better, I thought the California state parks had gotten expensive. The average site without water or electricity runs about $25 a night, with beach side sites with water and electric going for $70!

RE: Quartzsite Weekend.

The new town looks like a Ghost town, I think it is over. I just got back from there today and I sure didn't find it to be a ghost town last week. Yesterday it was kind of strange with a lot of the vendors gone and a lot of people leaving. There is still many people camping. I talked to 3 vendors who said that they would not be coming back next year, they are retiring. I think the economy is taking it's toll. I think there were more people this year but fewer buying things for whatever reason. I know I spent less this year. There just wasn't anything I had to have. After going for over 5 years I'm already well stocked with BBQ lighters and tools. I did find a candidate for the Emu oil. There was a rocking lawn sculpture of a Emu (ostrich) that may have needed lubricating. I'm already looking forward to next year.

RE: Moab to Denver, gas motorhome and toad. Bad idea?

You shouldn't have a problem, go for it.

RE: mapping trips

Also Trailer life directory campground navigator. All 3 (Delorme, S&T, and TL)mentioned work well, with each giving you different + and -'s. IMO Streets and Trips is the easiest to use and Delorme the hardest. TL is somewhere in between but what's nice about it is that it show you the locations of campgrounds directly on the map as well as having a digital copy of Next Exit which gives you what's at the various exits. TL will also give you current weather if you have internet, and it will show the grade % on the route. I use all 3 for one reason or another. I primarily use Delorme to plan where I'll need to get gas since it will show it on the map, the others will plan it and include it in the directions but not show it on the map.

RE: 1st time to Quartzsite

The Gremlins are back! They were crawling out of his pockets, shirt, etc. Must have sold some last year to bring him back again, What are those things? I wonder if it's legal to be selling them.

RE: 1st time to Quartzsite

I'm a little slow, what's a" RV related Item" that was not in the big tent? A lot of things related to an RV like something you could get at Camping World is sold in booths outside the big tent. Inside the tent are booths for destinations like British Columbia, clothes, spices and extracts, pots, tow bar manufactures and others. Last year they had a booth selling small furry animals (live) that kind of looked like gremlins. A place I recommend is one that sells tortilla and baked potato warmers, they work very well.

RE: 1st time to Quartzsite

I was frankly disappointed that there was not that much RV related stuff in the tent, unless you count cookware, slicer/dicers and emu oil. I didn't know emus needed oiling! :E It must not been a big seller, I don't think emus make very good RV pets.
