RE: Red Max Pro #3

Could one of you naysayers answer this one question. What is it that upsets you so much about the use of this product, Neil Because there is no such a thing as a free lunch. In this case to achieve a nice shiny finish takes work. Slathering on floor polish with no UV protection in it may work for a while, but at the end of the day someone will have to strip it back off and start over. I think it was P.T. Barnum who said it best, "there is a sucker born every minute" RVer's who are way past the concern of UV protection, are the ones who should be using RMP. We all see and hear about those faded units that no matter how many times you wax or how often, results in the same outcome, a faded trashy looking unit. A sucker I may be but after one year, a sucker with a shiny fifth-wheel that is often praised for it's looks. A sucker with a smile on my face enjoying my free lunch

RE: Battery Disconnect

I use a Perko marine, 2 battery switch. There are others on the market that will work just as good and cheaper. We use our trailer every other week so or refrigerator is always on. I use the switch to shut off the battery when at home between trips while on A/C power to keep from over charging/boiling the battery between trips. I do have to turn it back on when I need to move the slides because the converter doesn't supply enough amperage to run the slide pump.

RE: Recommend RV Park around Savannah, GA

Every trip until last year we stayed at Fort Mcallister. As said by The Gypsy, bugs are terrible that time of year at any coastal Georgia park. Steer clear of Crooked River SP.. Last year we stayed at Hardeeville RV. It is a Passport America friendly park with several available pull thorough 30 and 50 amp from $20 (cash only). Real convenient to downtown Savannah and surrounding area without the bugs.

RE: High Falls or Indian Springs SP Georgia

Both were nice the last time I was up there. If you go to Indian Spgs be sure to ride over to Fresh-Air BBQ Having been there and done both I second the above. Also a little Movie nostalgia can be experienced by riding over to Juliette Georgia to the film site of "Fried Green Tomatoes" and lunch at the Whistle Stop Cafe. A short ride and on your way back from the Jarrell Plantation. http://inlinethumb28.webshots.com/48155/2796729140087256274S600x600Q85.jpg

RE: All Ford Super Duty owners should read this

Ford has had some real problems along with glitches but the Ford trucks I have had in the past 2002, 2006 as well as the one I own now 2007 are the toughest, brute force trucks I have ever owned.

RE: Silver springs RV campers garden park

It is convienent if you are wanting to attend Silver Springs. As another poster has replied, mostly long term and perminant residents. We stayed there back in 2005 in our class C on a very small spot near SR-40. As you can see by the picture, some mobile home type units as well as snow birds make up the park. http://inlinethumb17.webshots.com/50384/2982922840087256274S600x600Q85.jpg

RE: Jacksonville, Fl

You can search crime statistics by zip code in Duval County, @Jacksonville Sheriffs Office Crime mapping software. Just a search of zip code 32233, KA Hannah Park reveals 50+ reported crimes against persons in the last 90 days. JSO Mapping Hannah park is a city owned park that fronts the beach with nice facilities but low hanging tree branches and some smaller sites. It is hard to get to by persons unfamiliar with the area. Hannah Park is located outside the Mayport Naval Base Main gate and a somewhat blighted, run down area with some vacant buildings, dive bars and such associated with it. Most homes are rental property, and mobile homes which are a cause of low community pride, a haven for punks and as a result, a higher crime rate. Hannah park itself seems to be a fairly safe place but the surrounding area is the problem. Flamingo Lakes and Big Tree are separated from the rougher areas by a man-made buffer, I-295. Areas north of 295 still have a sort of country appearance. Most area homes are owned, not rented, and many home lots are larger than an acre or more. Community Pride is high and crime is low. Most reported crimes are property crimes. Not to say crime is not in this area, it is, but I would stay in one of these parks and the great + is I-295 close by. Having had LEO experience in the area, just my 2 cents.

RE: If you want to see a masterpiece

We try to stay here 3-4 times a year. This has to be the best SP in NE Florida. We were there last month at Thanksgiving and were able to see them doing the light test on Black Friday. We are returning on the 26 of December and will stay through the new year. Poster News Letter http://inlinethumb21.webshots.com/46676/2455458520087256274S600x600Q85.jpg

RE: New Bighorn heat pump vs heat strip

I had a carrier with heat strip in the bedroom area and the strip was useless trying to heat the trailer. The carrier went out last summer and I replaced it with a Dometic heat pump. The heat pump will heat the entire trailer until the outside temperature gets below 40 degrees where it will no longer run.

RE: Walmart in Ocala Florida

The sites are huge at Silver River SP so arriving after dark is no problem. If you have reservations, call the park and they will give you the gate combination.

RE: Red max pro ???

Where can I get white scrubbie sponges? I have seen yellow, red, green and blue, but never white. Any source? Lowes and HD are no-go. White sponges and white micro fiber rags are not needed to clean the surface or apply RMP. It will not cause color to bleed on either. I have even applied it with a black micro fiber rag.

RE: Diesel clatter in the campgrounds

I'm saying this as a diesel owner. Man, I get tired of the diesels clattering through the CG. After a while it is like nails on a chalkboard. We had a gasser back in next to us one night, and the silence was golden. Around here, seems like most trailer haulers have turned to diesel as their engine of choice. I know in true spirit, my Powerstroke will not be a bother to you for awhile, as you will be hibernating while we camp all year.

RE: Does 26' site at Gamble Rogers really mean 26'?

You can see on google maps what the others are talking about. If your tow/toad vehicle will not fit within the area alloted by the lime rock bolders at the front of your site, you will have to move the vehicle to the public parking area outside the locked campground. HERE

RE: Let Outside shower drizzle to prevent freezing

That is the method I use when storing or camping in below freezing temperatures. As for the campground frowning on letting water trickle, most of the ones I have visited say it is cheaper to supply the small amount of water than having to cut off and drain or repair a broke pipe.

RE: towing behind the fifth wheel

I've got an 18' bumper hitch flat bed trailer I could haul my four wheelers on my next camping trip, but can the fifth wheel handle that kind of a load? It has a 2" square tube reciever and trailer lights on it already. Trailer weight maybe #1000, 3 four wheelers, maybe #1200, perhaps #2200-#2500 total weight. Anybody haul behind their fivers, would be a long load, but still legal I've been told. Thanks, Larry I would weigh that 18' flat bed. I bet it weighs closer to 3,000.

RE: Outside heater

I have a single burner and this one. This one allows me to direct the heat at the both of us when sitting out with a table between our chairs. Each burner can be pointed in a different direction. About $80 at Lowes a few years back. Will this type of heater work in the wind????......or does the wind blow the burners out like the buddy heaters? I had a small problem in windy conditions not with the burner going out but the wind disrupting the flow of gas at the air/gas mix venturi. The gas would try to burn in the venturi tube instead of the burner. I experimented by putting my finger over the air inlet a little to slow the force of the wind. I removed that threat almost entirely by placing a hose clamp around each air inlet and adjusting the clamp to give the greatest amount of air flow without allowing the wind to distort the flame. It has not been a problem since.

RE: Broken pin on slide drive

I have broken 2 since 2005. We use our trailer every 2 weeks and have also made several 2-3 month jaunts across the country. The 1 st time I replaced the pin with a 1/4 200 stainless bolt not threaded in the tube area which lasted about 2 years. This past spring, I used a grade 5 bolt when the stainless bolt gave up. I guess having to replace it only twice is a good thing.
