RE: in bed aux fuel tanks

Northern Tool has the best buys IMO. Lots of RDS fuel tanks and fuel tank/tool box combos. I had their RDS 60 gal tank/tool box combo on my 2005 Chevy 2500 and moved it to my 2007 Chevy 3500. Someone else has it now since they stole my 07 Chevy. Getting ready to buy another one for my 2011 GMC 3500 soon.

RE: 2008 carriage domani

I thought seriously about one before we bought our Jayco Designer. I really liked the looks and visual layout, but after really going over the liveability, decided it was not practical. Very little storage space, a tiny 2 burner stove, small TV in a not very good viewing position, no access to the bathroom and/or fridge on most models with the slides in, etc.
They are very nice with a "yacht" feel, but I'd recommend you review how you intend to "live" in the trailer and decide if it is practical for you.

RE: Commode cleaning 101

Your question makes me wonder if I should do the same. I'm not sure, but I believe you can find a chimney brush in a 3-4" size. They generally have a screw on fitting for a flexible wand. One wand should do it, then bag it like Dick stated.
Where would you find a chimney brush?
At the chimney brush store?? :)

RE: "service" codes on 2012 Chevrolet assistance needed

Some grounds go through and are regulated through the BCM. You'll probably be in the market for a new one. These aren't your daddy's automobiles anymore. I can't see how that would void your warranty, but the BCM will probably be on your dime.

RE: Still looking, 2006 duramax.. LLY or LBZ??

Mine too. Someone stole mine on March 1st. I wanted to keep my LBZ forever.
If you've got an 06 LLY or 06-07 LBZ, get a good alarm for it. That's what everyone wants and they'll steal it if they can.
Sorry to hear about your truck. Was it parked in your driveway when they stole it?
Yes, it was backed into my driveway. Not a sign or break in, just an empty driveway when I walked outside the next morning.

RE: Still looking, 2006 duramax.. LLY or LBZ??

My 07 lbz with 36k miles, was GREAT truck.... was planning on keeping it long time, too bad it was taken from me......:(
This neutral non-brand-loyalist must tip the cap to the Duramax...any year, really.
Going on 10 years now with only 2 "common" issues, early injector issues (for which they stepped up on the warranty) and fairly rare overheating on a few model years (fixable for not much $).
No matter what brand one drives or likes best, anyone reasonable has to admit that the Duramax/Allison drivetrain has proven to be an extremely reliable performer over its decade in service.

RE: Making a 50amp cord ?

I use one of these. Then I can use a 30 amp cord or plug in a 30 to 15 amp adapter and use a regular extension cord.

RE: Mounting rails for Valley 16000 Sliding hitch?

Be careful, I bought the"Valley No Drill" bracket set for my F350 and the 4th instruction was to drill 2 holes in the frame for the rear mounting bolts. The front bolts matched existing holes the rear had to be drilled. Plus the 4 in the bed.
Agreed. On the GM 2500, you have to drill one hole in the frame, but the custom bracket is already in the exact location by the use of the existing holes, so you basically just have to drill a hole in the frame through the hole in the bracket, so it's easy and accurate. And naturally, you have to drill four holes for the rails. However, you should be sure you have Reese rails or Valley rails. The Valley rails only have one large hole in each end of the rail. The Reese rails have two smaller holes on each end. You have to have the correct mounting bracket to match the rails you have.

RE: Power Chips

Has anyone used a power chip in their GMC truck for more MPG? I did a search of the web and a ton of them came up, but do they really work?
A lot depends upon whether you're talking about a gasser or a diesel engine. I agree with what Gunpilot77 said.

RE: Mounting rails for Valley 16000 Sliding hitch?

I'd just get a set of custom brackets from etrailer.com. It's a pain drilling the frame to mount those universal brackets. I put the custom brackets on my 05 chevy 2500 and 07 3500 and it's a much nicer set up.

RE: Husky FW Hitch & Brake Controller

I have a 16K Husky hitch also.Have towed well over 40K miles with it,no problems what so ever. And, here is another vote for the Max Brake!
I have the same combo. Husky 16k with MaxBrake.
Wouldn't change a thing.

RE: What advice can I get using my first Diesel engine?

Since it is a turbo engine, synthetic oil is necessary, as lubing the turbo bearings requires great heat stability.
I call BS on that one. Rotella, Delo or Delvac will work just as well as synthetic.
@RedG, how many Mercedes, or even European Common Rail, DPF equipped diesels have YOU owned in your lifetime?
I'm sorry, big guy, but you use any of the non-synthetic oils you mentioned in one of those engines, and (1) you will void the warranty as well as (2) likely need the DPF repairs cited above, and (3) possibly need a new turbo, assuming it doesn't take the entire engine with it when the oil seals on the turbo bearings blow out possibly leading to engine run-away. I'm just sayin'. They may be fine oils . . . for use in older/low-tech diesels, or US made engines, but they do not meet the specs the European makers insist upon.
Do note, however, that there are fully synthetic Rotella and Delvac oils that DO meet the specs, just not the non- or semi- synthetic versions.
OK, I'll cry UNCLE. I was thinking about the old I-5 MB motor.

RE: Fifth Wheel Hitches

Donn is correct. I have never weigh my rig, loaded or unloaded.
Here is what I know:
- My rig always arrives at my destination about a half-second after my truck
- I tow at 60mph on the interstate and get 8-9 mpg (gasoline)
- I can stop before the light turns red
- I can easily and (IMO) safely pull into traffic.
Any other information is not of interest to me.
And your trailer is a helluvalot smaller than what he's asking about. 5 feet shorter and 1/2 the dry weight and hitch weight.

RE: Tow battery not connected to trailer battery and power

You need to look at Stud 1 in your fuse box under the hood on the driver's side(top left when looking from the fender side). It comes with a red plastic dummy fuse in it from the factory. If it has a fuse, check it. I believe it's 40 amp IIRC.
