RE: Husky FW Hitch & Brake Controller

I have a 16K Husky hitch also.Have towed well over 40K miles with it,no problems what so ever. And, here is another vote for the Max Brake!
I have the same combo. Husky 16k with MaxBrake.
Wouldn't change a thing.

RE: What advice can I get using my first Diesel engine?

Since it is a turbo engine, synthetic oil is necessary, as lubing the turbo bearings requires great heat stability.
I call BS on that one. Rotella, Delo or Delvac will work just as well as synthetic.
@RedG, how many Mercedes, or even European Common Rail, DPF equipped diesels have YOU owned in your lifetime?
I'm sorry, big guy, but you use any of the non-synthetic oils you mentioned in one of those engines, and (1) you will void the warranty as well as (2) likely need the DPF repairs cited above, and (3) possibly need a new turbo, assuming it doesn't take the entire engine with it when the oil seals on the turbo bearings blow out possibly leading to engine run-away. I'm just sayin'. They may be fine oils . . . for use in older/low-tech diesels, or US made engines, but they do not meet the specs the European makers insist upon.
Do note, however, that there are fully synthetic Rotella and Delvac oils that DO meet the specs, just not the non- or semi- synthetic versions.
OK, I'll cry UNCLE. I was thinking about the old I-5 MB motor.

RE: Fifth Wheel Hitches

Donn is correct. I have never weigh my rig, loaded or unloaded.
Here is what I know:
- My rig always arrives at my destination about a half-second after my truck
- I tow at 60mph on the interstate and get 8-9 mpg (gasoline)
- I can stop before the light turns red
- I can easily and (IMO) safely pull into traffic.
Any other information is not of interest to me.
And your trailer is a helluvalot smaller than what he's asking about. 5 feet shorter and 1/2 the dry weight and hitch weight.

RE: Tow battery not connected to trailer battery and power

You need to look at Stud 1 in your fuse box under the hood on the driver's side(top left when looking from the fender side). It comes with a red plastic dummy fuse in it from the factory. If it has a fuse, check it. I believe it's 40 amp IIRC.

RE: RV Overtaken by Sqatters

A lot of this is going on in Texas.
Read this article to get an idea of what is happening, specifically, the fourth paragraph.
Most are being evicted, but through much suffering and expense by the victims.

RE: Any Open Range Light owners here?

X2, 1400 lb dry weight is going to turn into a lot more once you fill the propane tanks, load it up and put in a nice heavy slider hitch.
I saw an F150 towing a large Wildcat 5'ver a few days ago that was squashed down like a lowrider.

RE: Loss of power 2005 Duramax

The OP said that he could duplicate the condition in neutral. The fact that this would occur at the same RPM under load that it will in neutral under no load should eliminate the air and fuel filters as suspect.
He was in limp mode which will restrict rpm's to 2000. Probably caused by clogged fuel filter as opined above.

RE: what diesel years/engines to avoid?

I gotta ask what kind of bladder control some you "big fuel tank" guys have? Or, more importantly, your kids :)
A couple hundred miles is plenty between stops for my clan. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. I didn't even think about fuel tank size when I bought my truck. Too many other things to consider... I couldn't have handled any more.
I'd rather stop at a rest stop than try to jockey in and out of a corner gas station to use the restroom. With an aux tank, I can get fuel after stopping for the day and dropping off the trailer.

RE: Just thought I'd share!

It warmed up a little today. 25 degrees. However, I'll take the cold weather in exchange for NOOOOOOO people here. When I drive 20 miles to Cody, a town of 8,000, in this cold weather on a 4 lane highway at 65 mph with no traffic I just love it in Wyoming. Did I mention the herds of deer, elk, and antelope along the way?
Can't wait for spring though.
Cody, what a BEAUTIFUL place. I envy you......
I'd take Beartooth over BlueHairs anyday. :)

RE: Truck purchase

A half ton, probably a ford since they have the most payload but a tundra could pull it too. You'll need a slider too.
I know you're joking, but two days ago on I-35, I saw a late model F150 towing about a 33' Forest River Wildcat fifth wheel. The truck was squashed down like a lowrider.

RE: Radical High Mileage Engine Flushing Thoughts?

I've had good success cleaning sludged engines with Berryman's B12 in a pour can (Part # 2616 - 15 oz East Pour-In Metal Can). I pour a full can in a cold engine, start it up and let it idle for about 20 minutes. Then shut it off and change the oil. You'll be surprised at what comes out. You can find it at WalMart.
