RE: Why did tire blow

Well, I am not just sure what your question is.... Do you mean why did it "blow"? It sounds like it did more than "blow". It probably blew, as in lost pressure, some time before you saw it disintegrate. Why it lost pressure is anybody's guess. Even that disintegration comes in two kinds. Some shred the side wall. This is more common to passcar tires run below load pressure. Others separate the belts/thread. This is more common in heavy tires. and very common in dual set where a tire can be run out of load pressure for an extended period. Think about that last one... Most of the tire weight is in those belts. Do you know what a 22.5 tire weighs?? (hint ~ close to 100#) Now think about the that belt that is 2/3~3/4 of that tire weight. On the top side of the tire, it is going twice road speed. That just helps tear it loose. It only hits the fiberglass body at road speed. I was always surprised how little damage that did. I'm not testing cars any more. Matt Where in the world did you get your information/facts? Not one thing you stated is accurate. I worked for one of the big 3 tire manufacturers for many years. I think I know a little bit about tires. Ray .

RE: De-winterizing

I only wish I could de-winterize and sterilize my system in 10 minutes. To do it properly, it takes me about 45 minutes to an hour. My fresh water tank holds 70 gallons. I follow this procedure: (1) Drain out all the antifreeze. (2) Hook up city water and flush out all pipes. (3) Completely fill the fresh water tank with bleach/water solution. (4) Run bleach/water solution through all piping including indoor and outdoor showers and toilet. (5) Completely drain tank and fully refill with freshwater. (6) Run freshwater through all piping again as in step 4. (7) Drain tank. (8) Open the bypass valve on the HW heater. (9) Completely refill tank and HW heater for the final time. Now the system is sanitized and good to go. Note: it takes about 12 to 15 minutes to completely fill my freshwater tank. De-winterizing is not difficult, just time consuming. My city water pressure is 60 psi and I use a 5/8 diameter hose. As long as I am physically capable, I will continue to do my own. However, I don't think $80 is an unreasonable fee. JMHO. Ray

RE: Why is it so hard to find a decent used unit???

Your experience is exactly why we bought new. When I sold our class C, it was in excellent condition. The first couple that looked at it bought it immediately. We also had it priced right. We were fortunate to purchase a class A from a private party that was in excellent condition, but only after looking a many, many units over many months. It amazes me how many people will lay out large amounts of money to buy a MH and then not take care of it whether it be cosmetically or mechanically. You may be better off buying new; that way you will get all the manufacturer's warranties on all the appliances and the warranty on the chassis. Wishing you the best. Ray

RE: My loss

The loss of a loved one is always difficult. Just trust in the Lord to give you grace, peace and comfort as you go through this trial. Be thankful for all your memories and the truly valuable things your father taught you; things you cannot learn in school. A father should be a son's best friend when growing up and a mother should be a daughter's best friend when growing up. Fortunately, I was blessed with both a good mother and father. Wishing you the best. God bless. Ray

RE: Kurt Bush snaps again....

Kurt Bush is an immature, spoiled jerk. His conduct is unacceptable and it is a BIG DEAL!! Granted he is a very talented driver, but his antics and bad behavior take away from his driving skills. He is a very poor role model for young, aspiring race fans. He truly needs to grow up. Enough said. Ray

RE: For those who visit Ocean City Maryland

Many towns have such ordinances; unfortunately many do not enforce them. Why have ordinances or laws if they are not going to be enforce? Ray

RE: Time to "refresh your soul!" Yosemite Falls Live View.

We were there last summer. The falls were exceptionally beautiful due to the large quantity of water melting from the record winter snowfalls. Never get tired of seeing the beautiful landscapes that God created in our great country. Thanks for the picture. Ray

RE: Wires not staying on generator distributor cap.

Sometimes, replacement wires do not fit the distributor cap as tightly as the OEM wires. Have the wires or cap been replaced or are they OEM? If not, you may want to consider replacing both. Another member may have other ideas. Ray

Great MH Body repair

Last Fall I damaged the right rear side of my MH by hitting a tall stop sign while making a very sharp right turn. Not a lot of damage but enough to require a good body shop. There are not too many shops close to where I live that can handle a large class A MH. I searched the internet and found World Class Auto body, Inc. located in Silverdale, PA about 20 miles from where I live. Based on customers' positive reviews, I decided to take my MH to World Class. Because of long delivery times for the parts (lower panels)the repairs took longer than would be expected for a car. However, the time to repair was very reasonable. I picked up the MH yesterday. I must say they did an outstanding repair job. The MH looks like new and if I didn't tell you, you would never know it had been damaged. Also, Dave and Rich were very friendly, very accommodating and took care of all the details with my insurance company. This their address and phone number: 140 West Main Street Silverdale, PA 18962 215-257-4808 Note: Silverdale is located just east of Soulderton, PA on state rte 113. I have no affiliation with this shop; just wanted to give praise where praise is due. Ray

RE: Off to the Dealer Tomarrow!

All I can say is be very, very careful or they will take you to the cleaners. I would not send my worst enemy to them. Without going into a long list of complaints, all i can say is that I am speaking from personal experience in 2010.

Screws with nuts and large washers on the under side. Point of info: I don't think he has access from behind the wall. Ray

RE: Tail lights and running lights not working

Maybe try running a temporary ground wire from the negative post of your chassis battery to a good clean spot on your chassis frame. If the lights work, then you have lost your ground and must trace the permanent ground from your battery to where it attaches to the frame; the ground is not making good contact. I don't think a defective multipurpose switch would affect the tail lights, brake lights or running lights. Ray

RE: Tow dolly

No. Closest thing to visualize is the same car on a trailer. Trailer does the braking. I believe he is referring to auxiliary brakes on the car. No auxiliary brakes are required on the car; the brakes on the tow dolly will be sufficient to stop the dolly and the car. Ray

RE: poorly done ad by Newell

This is a very interesting thread. Here is The Real Story. The coach in the ad is not a photograph but actually a computer rendering depicting a new, updated design we commissioned in partnership with Porsche Design. And yes, the rendering of the coach was dropped into the rather fanciful Sound of Music background. (By way of coincidence, Porsche Design is located in Austria.) Anyway, with the long lead times required for these ads and the first of the new design production coaches not scheduled to be finished and available for a photo shoot until late May, the only way to have a "current" coach in this ad was to use a computer rendering. Had a real coach photograph been used, it would have been the design that is now out of production. Exactly the kind of professional response I would expect from a first-class company. Thank you for your response. Ray For more on the Porsche collaboration, check this link: http://www.examiner.com/article/newell-coach-broadens-collaboration-with-porsche-design-studio . And yes, the quality of the rendering was exceptional, don't you think? Karl Blade Newell Coach Corp.

RE: Inspection charge

For service shops, time is money. If they do not charge you for the tech's time, they lose money because the tech could be working on another customer's billable job. Your (OP) mistake was not getting a price before the work was done. I personally would not expect free service for checking the AC or replacing the antenna crank handle; who furnished the handle? $100 per hour is an average shop rate for RV service shops. Anytime an RV or boat is involved, all bets are off on service rates and parts costs. Ray

RE: poorly done ad by Newell

In this day and age with all our other problems, is this really important? I wish all I had to complain about was some company's advertisement on a magazine cover. I would think I had died and went to Heaven. Ray
