RE: Towing a streamlined trailer

:) Hi, I believe that Airstream (Airstream factory) is the only one who has claimed a 20% difference in mileage compared to an SOB and I believe it, but I would never believe a salesman.

RE: What do you wish "they" had told you?

:) Hi, people automatically assume you are a millionaire because you own an Airstream. (not true)

RE: Equalizer Setup

:) Hi, I would also recommend that you turn your clip pins the other way around; (closed end of clip to the front) The reason that I do this is because, if you ever run over a small bush or anything while traveling, it could knock those pins out.

RE: Airstream......??

Hard to spend $45,000 for a 16' Bambi. Even if it will be around 30yrs from now. I can buy 3 TT's at $15,000 that are bigger and more practical for the same amount of money.
:) Hi, I think that is too much too and I have seen special edition model Bambi's for over $60,000.00; I paid about $35,000.00 for my brand new 25' Safari. (can't buy a new one for that price anymore)
:) My Safari has been doing just fine with my Equal-i-zer brand hitch too.

RE: Do you have your "Dream" RV? How many did it take to find it

:) Hi, after a long thought process and a few years looking, we bought our one and only trailer. (and tow vehicle) Later, I remodeled my trailer's living room and that's it for us. May get another tow vehicle in the future.

RE: Airstream......??

:) Hi, one of the many things that I like about Airstreams is the fact that you can't bring too much junk with you; There is plenty of storage for the things that you really need, and room for some that you don't. (less chance of overloading it too) Although it's not perfect, it will most likely be the only trailer that I will ever own. Airstreams are also more serviceable, being that everything inside of my trailer was brought in through the door and can also be removed through the door.http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x415/robertsunrus/2004AirstreamOregon035.jpg width=640

RE: Anyone have a portable elect/batt cooler?

:) Hi, I bought a cheap electric cooler, tested it for a few days, and returned it. It wouldn't cool anything. Instructions said to put cold items in it. (I can do that with any ice chest) The hot air from the fan heated up my tow vehicle and made too much noise for such a little fan. I have had much better luck by buying a block of ice, putting it in the middle of my ice chest, load food and/or drinks on both sides of the block of ice, and top it off with ice cubes. This way, it had kept my drinks very cold for at least a week or more depending on ambient temperature.

RE: Problems recieving warranty work

I sure don't hope you end up somewhere that your "dealer" is not and you need service. After all what is the difference? I am sorry you are in the belief that because you purchased your RV that you are due some special service. You and I have very different thoughts about warranties. So I purchased my F-150 New in Mississippi would you say I should return the vehicle to Batesville Mississippi for service. I have my own thoughts about you and your money but none the less I have Worked and earned every cent I have ever gotten and I expect to receive what I paid for. I do Thank You for your opinion and I pray God Blesses you with all your narrow selfish expectations in your life.
:) Hi, I think you could have been nice and left the last half of your last sentence off. :h

RE: Carrying water in TT

:) Hi, my fresh water tank is mounted in between my axles (tandem) and I travel with it full; Being full, lowers my center of gravity and helps with handling.

RE: Taxes

I am sure this has been covered 100 times...but a buddy of mine used a large tax company to do his taxes for him, and they told him he could not claim his RV on his taxes. Everything I have read says you can. Need to be in it 14 days a year, has to have a bathroom, kitchen, and a place to sleep...and need to itemize to be able to claim it. If you already claimed 2 residences, you can't claim the RV. Am I missing anything?
Sean
:) Hi, I can't claim my trailer, but my trailer was never financed. You didn't say, but I will assume, that your friend is financing his RV.

RE: Carlisle tires prone to blow out

"Remember when FORD bought back all the OEM Goodyears on their Explorer's because they were blowing out, and causing rollovers? "
That was Firestones, and Ford was at least equally at fault for specifying low tire pressures, on the order of 24 psi. I have had a few blowouts in years past, and not one of them would turn a vehicle over without some steering input help.
Sluggo
:) Hi, you are right; It was the Firestone tires that failed.
You are wrong; both Goodyear and Firestones were to be inflated at 26 lbs and the Firestones were the only ones that failed.
I worked at Ford dealers, I owned an Explorer Sport with Goodyear tires, and ran them at 26 lbs since it was brand new until I sold it at 93,000 miles and 10 years old. Never had any tire problems with this vehicle.

RE: Television question

:) Hi, with my analog 15" LCD TV I had to turn on the antenna booster, raise my antenna, and aim my antenna. When I added a converter box, I only had to turn on the antenna booster, but had to program the converter box at each location. My new 21.5" digital TV just needs the antenna booster turned on and my antenna stays in the travel position. Also my new TV does an automatic channel scan every time it is turned on.

RE: Equal-i-zerĀ® Hitch

:) Hi, I have never removed my spring bars for backing up, but if you ever have to have a tow truck, tow your tow vehicle, while attached to your trailer, you better take them off.

RE: Are surge guards necessary

:) Hi, I bought an inline 30 Amp surge guard from Camping World and have only used it a few times and that was when I knew there was going to be thunder storms. I prefer the inline type because a friend of mine has a hard wired one in his motorhome and the entire guts were fried. (like black and melted) I don't want a melted surge protector inside of my trailer. (fire hazard)

RE: Good Sam Insurance Costs

:) Hi, my experiences with insurance quotes from Camping World, Good Sam, and GMAC were somewhat different. GMAC seems to have more benefits than what I have, but I was quoted about $750.00 per six months; Or you could say $1500.00 per year. I pay about $300.00 per year. The very nice lady at Camping World, who asked to get me a quote, couldn't find my travel trailer listed and had to call the main office. She was told that she had to look under Airstream to find it. About a year later, the same very nice lady asked if she could get me a quote for my RV; I told her that she has looked it up before and it was way too high. She said maybe it has changed. I told her that I own an Airstream, and she said, have a nice day. (I have AAA)

RE: F150 OR TUNDRA

:) Hi, I have a few things that lead me towards the Ecoboost Ford. When I find myself climbing the mountains and high altitude, My engine loses lots of power due to being naturally aspirated. I think the crew cab with the 5.5 foot bed would work for me; I believe some owners with the crew cab with the 6.5 foot bed feel a shudder on take off especially while towing. I don't like my extension/clip on mirrors so I would definitely get the factory tow mirrors. And finally it has to get much better fuel mileage than my Navigator.

RE: Refrigerator Long term storage

:) Hi, I also use a bungee cord; I hook one end of the bungee cord on one of the refrigerator door handles, I wrap the cord around my bathroom door handle once, and hook the other end on the other refrigerator door handle. This keeps the two refrigerator doors slightly open, but doesn't allow them to swing around and break. I dry my refrigerator interior as much as possible and store my trailer like this.

RE: Air conditioning 30 amp question...HELP !!

There must be different types of AC units. Mine will run from a house old 20 amp outlet no problem.
:) Hi, my air conditioner works just fine plugged into my house 20 amp service.
yes it will but you throw the fridge on and some other stuff and that usually trips it.
:) Hi, you're probably right, but I don't turn anything else on, while connected to my 20 amp house circuit. (air conditioner only)

RE: Think I fried my batteries

I always leave my trailer plugged in and I am thinking that may not be a good idea! We went on a dry camp last year, and batteries ran low in one evening...have a gennie, but don;t run it all day. My 2 batteries are stock when I bought it....pulled the caps off the batteries, and 8 of the 12 cells needed water badly..(I am of the age that "no water" batteries came into vogue, and never think of them)....I am sure I screwed up on about 5 different fronts here...keeping it plugged in, not checking my water levels, leaving them in over the winter....I will have to go SAMS and get new ones....just need some "slap upside the head" advice on keeping the new ones in good shape! Thanks!!
:) Hi, your trailer is an 08 model with original batteries? The batteries in my trailer last about three years. I just buy new ones at Costco.
