Verizon Home Direct Connect.

I saw a post recently about Verizon Home Direct Connect (VHDC) and decided to try it. VHDC is a replacement connection for your land line. Just undo your wired connection at the box and plug the supplied device into you home phone network and power it up. VHDC is unlimited minutes, free long distance, conference calling, call forwarding and voice mail. All for $20 a month + one time activation, surcharges and various taxes of about $70. Now for the good part! You can take your VHDC device with you in your RV for extended trips. It connects to the cell towers just like your cell phone. It has a rechargeable battery that will operate the device for about 2 hours and is powered by a 12 volt wall wart. So get the necessary plugs and connectors from Radio Shack and power it from your RVs 12 volts. No more worrying about minutes while on extended trips. Take your home phone with you. Verizon will even port you home phone number over to your new VHDC.

RE: ICM location

Hi HJ,
You'll find the ICM on the left fire wall, under the hood. Should be just left of the radiator over flow tank. Left=drivers side. Small aluminum device, secured to a heat sink.

RE: 1996 F53 460 water pump change

I changed my 460 water pump the same way Jumbo One did. Remove the dog house cover and place a pillow on the ledge for your forehead and start wrenching. As 96Bounder30E noted, you can be less of a contortionist if you remove the AC condenser and radiator but then you have to recharge the AC. F53 Radiators of the era have a history of end tank gasket leaks on the left lower corner. Pick your poison, it's a lot of work either way.

RE: Campgrounds between Tuba City and Kayenta in AZ

I wouldn't stop on the reservation. There is a small number of local residents that pray on those not familiar with life in that part of the world. The two times that I had to stop in Tuba, I spent way too much time chasing the local, mooching drunks away from the MH.

RE: Attention All Electron Chasers

The NEC requires RVs to be treated as secondary panels. Meaning the neutral and ground leads are to be isolated. I've found instances where the ground lead was contacting the neutral lead on a outlet, thus causing the source GFI to trip. By removing a neutral from the buss bar, one at a time the offending circuit was isolated and the bond between neutral and ground was located and corrected. Could be time a consuming job.

RE: P-32 Alignment - Caster Setting

Bill, I read information that supposedly came from Robert Henderson (Henderson Line-up), that said 4-5º of caster and strong toe-in like mentioned in the previous post. It's generally accepted that the OEM didn't recommend enough caster.

RE: Fleetwood Bounder 34'

As designed, the generator should run out of fuel at ¼ tank of gas. That does seem to vary some.

RE: Newbie question about dual a/c units

Hi Kevin, There was a company called Power Solutions that offered a solution to your dilemma. I understand that they are out of business. BUT! There is a way to emulate their solution.
Read this page on my web site. You can now run the second AC on a added extension cord.

RE: Mountain driving

They called and said there was a significant temperature differential between the top of the rad and the bottom and they recommended a rod and core as there appeared to be a restriction inside the rad.
This seems like flawed logic. If the radiator is dissipating heat correctly, shouldn't the coolant temperature decline as it flows from top to bottom? Thus the radiator its self will be significantly cooler on the bottom.

RE: LP alarm

Ed, that is not exactely a true statement about FMCA, for "Motorhomes Only".
Before we bought our Motorhome, we had FMAC for our PSD Truck and 5er with FMAC for quite a few years. At some time, in the past they may have been for "Motorhomes Only" but no so any longer, and haven't been for many years now. We are still with FMCA with our Motorhome now also.
FMAC is open to all RV's. I can't give you a date when they started this, but as I said, we had FMAC with our PSD Truck & 5er for quite a few years.
As with a lot of companies, they had to make some adjustments and changes to stay in business also. ERS is ERS, still money in FMCA pockets.
Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: LP alarm

I have to reset mine every time. My batteries are located in an outside compartment and the stair well in the front like a school bus. With this configuration, the batteries are out of the picture. I just turn it off for several seconds and then turn it back on and after a few chirps it is ready. Congratulations on your new motor home. Please tell us what model it is so we can provide more specific advice for your future questions. You might also want to check out the FMCA web site, they are for motorhomes only so you have a good base to ask motorhome specific questions. Ed.

What? The "Family Motor Coach Association" is open to all RVers? My documentation says Motorhomes only and you must be able to walk from the steering wheel to the back of the RV. Tell me more. Can you post a link to the new rules?

RE: coilspring airbag pressure

Richard you answered your own question. The bags are there for different weight front ends.I worked on this suspension for 20 years on school buses 16 and 20 passenger GM had it.We kept a bus for 10 years and I think I may of changed one bag in 20 years.
So...You're saying the front end would sag with low or no air pressure in the bags?

Tell us what brand alarm you have. If it's a CCI brand, and the switch is left on, it will alarm when applying power, and must be reset manually.

RE: coilspring airbag pressure

Ok,That answers my question.Ride height dont change=alignment dont change.Thank you.
So...........If the ride height don't change and the alignment don't change with air pressure change. Why are the air bags there? And why did Chevy recommend different air pressures for different front end weights?

RE: Onan generator question.

Does anyone know if the windings could be converted to 240v? The trailer manufacturer feed the electric panel with #6 wire which is over kill for this application. Why would Onan make a generator wired like this? So basically I have two 3400w generators? Rather have a 7000w windings at 240v.
Your NHM generator has only one 120 volt winding. If you remove the electrical panel cover, you'll see that the leads to the 30 amp circuit breakers are connected to a common buss bar. If you need 240 volts, go for a step up transformer.
