RE: Front End Squirrely (Towing Noob Here)

If you are using the 18" hitch extension to get past the spare tire, its not helping matters.

RE: Hot Water Bypass Kit?

Take a look at this.
Thanks for the link. I knew this couldn't be an original idea I had. This is exactly the idea, except I have to down-elaberatise it !
Thanks to all the replies,....I would rather go w/ a manual valve, but I may be easier going w/ the electric valve, w/ a push button on the sink.
I'd think its just a matter of "T"-ing into the hot water pex just below the sink faucet....to the valve, then from the valve to a "T"
in the 1/2" filler vent hose as close to the FWT tank as possible.

Hot Water Bypass Kit?

Anyone installed a hot water bypass,......or know of a kit available ?
I am tired of wasting a gallon of water(not to speak of filling the grey water tank) a day waiting for hot water to get to the bath sink and shower. So I'm wanting to run a bypass that will run hot water from just below the bath faucet back to the FWT,......to be turned on for 30 seconds till hot water is there.
Is there a kit? I'm having trouble finding a suitable valve for the project.

RE: Cheap Plastic Latches on Fleetwood's Storage Comp Doors

The latches are made by TriMark. I have found that it is a good idea to lube them every year or so with white lithium grease. As said above holding the handle out while closing them instead of slamming helps a lot.
There is a company making metal replacements SEE it HERE
Good to know !
I knew someone besides me had to improve these POS latches.
The worst part, these latches are a real pain to change out. Almost the whole door has to be dismantled. I can only perrish the thought of driving into the RV shop and have 2 of these replaced on each door !

Cheap Plastic Latches on Fleetwood's Storage Comp Doors

Anyone else have trouble w/ the striker bar latches breaking ?
My MH had 3 broken when I bought it (5 yrs old) only one end holding.
And I've broke 2 more !
Finding out that the replacements ($15) are still the same cheap plastic striker bars, I decided there must be a better way
I removed the latch assy, drilled out the rivets, and got the broken pc outta there, and glued them back together,.....for a perfect pattern for to make new striker bars out of genuine steel. Then just pop rivet back together
What a success,......not only will it never break again, it closes w/o having to pull the center handle back while closing.
The part is nothing more than a 1/2 x 1/2 x 2" pc of keystock, sawed at a 45 deg on one end, w/ a little machine work on it, and a hole drilled thru it. It helps that I have a little lathe for the machine work.
A little labor involved, but a good little challenge also.
This mite help someone else ?? Hopefully !

RE: Recyling 1 lb. propane tanks?

Refill them,....its done all the time.
Takes a little experience to make it easy tho.
Its illegal for commercials to refill and/or transport them.
But no problem doing it yourself. Just don't get them too full, because they will start to bleed off in hot weather, or when taking to higher elevations.

You want to do it,......you're going to do it,......so just do it !
That'll still beat the house A/C unit stuck in a window like my bro thinks is ok,.......or doesn't give a dam what anybody thinks !:)))

RE: Converter Working?

Quote:
The OEM meters are not very accurate
---------------------------------------------
Nor did I say they were.
They are not very detailed either.
But they are consistent,.....so if thats all you got, and you learn to read it, it can tell you a lot more than you'd know w/o it.
If its reading in the green, and you think the batts are full, turn on a faucet (w pump) If it stays in the green, you have perdy good batt life left,.....but if it drops well into the white, your batt SOC is quite low and needs charging. Point ?? Learn to read/use your monitor,......its all you got !
I was stressing the point as w/ charging. There ain't an RV'er alive that can't know whether or not their converter is charging......just by looking......and knowing how to read their OEM batt monitor.
Battery state of charge(SOC) is another story. Even the most expensive volt meter won't tell you the SOC of a battery untill you know how much load is on the batts at the time you are taking a reading.

RE: Does running from a generator kill an AC?

Do ya think that the engineers didn't know that the compressor would be in a locked mode from time to time and be unable to start ? It is designed to power down for a couple minutes till the pressure bleeds off,.....whether on a generator or on the grid. Just use it and guit worrin about it. You know what a normal compressor start up sounds like. If everything sounds normal, then you can bet it is normal. At least that has worked for me.....and many others,...for many years.

RE: Converter Working?

I don't know why so many badmouth the OEM battery monitors.
They do exactly what a volt meter does, and they do it consistently.
They are not very detailed, but they aren't meant to be.
When not charging and in or near the green, the battery SOC is good-fair yet.
If they are near the lo red, they need charging.
While charging, they will show higher in the green.....maybe near the hi red.
People are always asking if their converter is charging,.......??
Alls ya have to do is look at your OEM monitor ! Learn to read it !
Me,....I have ammeters
Others have full fledged battery monitoring systems

RE: Electrical Outlets

You will need an inverter,.....or a generator to use any 120v outlets.
And if you are dry camping, and not using a generator, you can forget about using any 120v appliances, except maybe a tv, sat receiver, phone chargers, and computer chargers, and even then, unless you add more batteries, you will need to recharge every day, one way or another.

RE: Have DirectTV. What do I need to use it in RV?

If alls you want is direct tv regular programming, alls you need is the old 18" single LNB (eyball) dish. They are laying around everywhere for free.....or scrap price at most. Then alls you need is a tripod......from CW, or any RV place. A small tripod is better for storage,.....just hang a milk jug of water on the bottom if its very windy.
This, and your receiver from home, and your in the sat TV business .
Don't buy no portable automatic sat finding dish,....because you need a little challenge in your life yet :)

Whats it worth ? It isn't worth anything as an RV,..... would probably be hard to give it away.
It is worth scrap price tho, whatever that mite be.

RE: wheel bearing adjustment

Timeking
Tighten as instructed and turn the wheel in the most common direction of travel. Then loosen the nut without turning the wheel. When the nut is loose turn it inward until it is finger tight. If the nut does not line up with the hole loosen it to the next available slot. Done deal
BTCThis is the only right way too do it.
Now, go do it your way,......but when your wheels fall off, don't come a cryin here ! :):)

RE: House battery

One very useful thing that few if any RV have as standard equipment, is an inline amp meter in the converter's output line to show if the batteries are charging, and how much.
That is the very first thing I install on every RV I purchase.
A volt meter (OEM monitor) will tell you if its charging, but won't tell you how much.

RE: Reduced Hot Water Heater Capacity

I noticed nobody mentioned the internal thermostat or thermocouple as possible problem areas?
-------------------------------------------------
Really ? I know I did !
Quote from my post above:
could be due to a defective thermostat
Also, the thermostat may not be adjustable, but that don't mean they both have the standard 140 degree. Mine has a 120 degree ......which makes for less capacity.

RE: Fuelpump Trouble in 1994 National Seabreeze

What were the symptoms before ?
Are you sure the old pump was really bad, or possibly an inconsistent electrical supply like you mite have now.
You will have to somehow verify that the power supply is actually consistent at the pump.

RE: Reduced Hot Water Heater Capacity

I would guess the water is getting hotter in the hi cap heater, could be due to a defective thermostat in the lower capacity one.
Also 1 tank could have a gallon of crud in the bottom making for less capacity

If the toilet is the only thing going in the black tank, you must use lots of water. And like said, never leave the valve open,......and never dump till the tank is full.
