RE: The economy must be improving

I'm not sure the economy is getting better, but
things are happening because people realize it is a buyers market. Housing prices have dropped, interest rates are low,so people with money can get some great deals. Car dealers are making some crazy deals to sell vehicles. My cousin and her husband had a Nissan that was almost 3 years old but wasn't paid off. They got a card in the mail saying they could get a new car with the same or lower payments. They didn't believe it,but went to check it out. They got a brand new car, same model, same options but their monthly payments were lower for the same terms. Many contractors have lowered their rates or their mark ups to get jobs.

RE: Myrtle Beach to Norfolk, Va travels in Oct.

There are two in North Carolina in the Croatan National Forest. Both have electric hookups. One is closer to the ocean that the other but Nuese River has a swimming beach along the Nuese River. Here is a link:

RE: question about tennessee state parks

West Virginia and Kentucky also have resort state parks.Pipestem in southern WVA is one of the nicest, with the most amenities of any State Park we have ever been to.They both take reservations.

RE: Goose Point vs. North Bend COE

The loop that's right on the lake at Goose point is really nice.Activities would be boating, fishing, swimming ( there is a beach ) conoeing is about the extent of it.You are not too far from the Blue Ridge Parkway so that an option. The nearest town has a Food Lion,a liquor store and car wash. It's more the type of campground where you just want to kick back and relax.

RE: For those who visit Ocean City Maryland

My aunt and uncle bought a place in Fenwick Island ( Del) in 1965.It was 2 blocks from the OC line. You could walk from the border toward OC and there was nothing at all until you got to the Carosel Hotel. Now it's nothing but condos, hotels',restaraunts, stores. No open land at all.OC used to be a great family place.Just not the same between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

RE: For those who visit Ocean City Maryland

I'm the Mayor of our small town.A few years ago,we passed a noise ordinance based on decibel level and time of day. From 8 am to 8 pm it is a higher level than it is from 8pm to 8am.I wonder how they will enforce it. Sounds very subjective. If someone complains and an officer shows up will they site the offender on the complaint of the caller? Will the officer have to hear it? Will the officer then have to use a tape measure to make sure they are closer than 50ft?

RE: central Virfginia - Petersburg to Appomattox

We stayed at Bear creek State Park when we visited Appomattox. The park is nice with electric and water and a nice lake and beach.Appomattox is a neat little village. Both the campground and Historic site are kind of in the middle of nowhere.

RE: careful what you put in diesel tanks, someone is watching

I understand the fuel tax thing, but 2 questions come to mind.First, what about electric vehicles? They aren't paying to drive on the roads. And,don't our lawmen have anything better to do like finding murderers and rapists?

RE: Article on NPS restricting access

While I agree we need to protect wildlife, we already have National Wildlife Refuges. Teddy Roosevelt pushed to set aside lands for
future generations that include many of today's National Parks. But Roosevelt believed that these lands should be available for multiple uses.He hunted and fished. He rode horses and used automobiles in our National Parks. You may be able to make a case for limited use of motorized vehicles, but horses, kites, swimmers?

RE: Is it still camping?

My dogs are better behaved than most kids. They won't trash the bathrooms, they won't play their music too loud, they won't get drunk and they won't cut through your campsite.Dogs don't disobey the rules. They can't read.If a dog is causing problems,it's because they have irresponsible owners.Just like when kids break the rules,it is usually a reflection on poor parenting.

RE: Going to Dead Horse Ranch State park...recommendations???

Tuzigoot is Indian ruins from around 1300 AD.It can be seen from the campground but is neat to walk around the ruins.Ft Verde Calvary post is about 20 miles away.Restored building from the 1880's.Jerome is a neat town.We visited the Douglas Mansion, old home of a mine owner which is now a state park and went to the Gold King mine and ghost town which I thought was really neat. They have borros walking around looking for handouts and lots of old things to see.

RE: Why no cheap no frills overnight w/elec offered?

In the east property taxes are high and most of the campgrounds are only open for 6 months a year.So they need to make every penny they can to stay in bussiness. The other thing is,if you gave a cheap over night site, there would always be those who would use the shower rooms, fill up with water, use the dump station etc.How do you police something like that? The only practical option would be at a truck stop where you get a no bones site with electric on a piece of asphalt.

We have stayed at Trout Pond NF Campground in West Virginia and Sherando Lake in Virginia. They have electric hookups, water hydrants through out the loops, bath houses, dump station and swimming beaches. Not sure which National Forests they are in,either Mononghela,Jefferson or George Washington. They also have other nice campgrounds in each.

I agree that the OP said they want hookups and that's fine. But IMO,some of the nicest campgrounds we have in this country don't have full hookups.
