RE: Please splain something to me Lucy

Steve:
As I understand it, the geometry of a gooseneck adapter puts more stress on the fiver pin box and it's attachment to the frame than a traditional fifth wheel hitch. There are those on this forum that can surely better explain this than I can.

RE: Finally pulled the trigger - New 5th Wheel

I have a standard bed (read: not a long box truck) and purchased a fairly inexpensive "tool" box at Home Depot several years ago. It works fine with my HiJacker manual sliding hitch. However, I know some of the more expensive boxes are higher quality.

RE: Got the final word from Jayco today about my roof

Steve, My failing is that I don't have any patience with shoddy workmanship and/or poor customer service. I guess I'd better get over it if I'm going live thru another RV purchase
I do hope you have many good camping seasons with your new trailer. Just a suggestion: if you're through going back and forth with Jayco over the matter, you might cover that protruding screw or nail bump with an Eternabond patch or at least carry one along with you. They are available in a six-inch square size and REALLY stick well.

RE: Got the final word from Jayco today about my roof

I'm in the market for a new fiver within the next few months. This posting has reduced my list by one manufacturer; I will NOT consider any fiver made by Jayco! Their response to your roof situation is unacceptable!!!

RE: Propane\Battery Compartment Vent Covers

I would first try an RV supply store. Also Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, or True Value Hardware might have something that you could substitute.

2008Wildcat:
I stand corrected. However, the Sanibel folks should list the levelers as an option.

RE: Sanibel 3500

All those features, and NO standard or optional Hydraulic leveling? Not in the same league as other upscale fivers!

RE: Emergency Tow truck options with 5th wheel

A few years ago I had a wheel come off my fiver. I had AAA+RV coverage, but they wouldn't tow the fiver; they said that the coverage was for motorhomes only. I quickly changed to Good Sam ERS; they know how to deal with fivers. I don't know what AAA's policy is today, but if you have a fiver, I would specifically get it in writing that that will take care of you.

RE: Well I did it. $2,000 hit cab of truck forgot to use slider

As far as I know, there 2 automatic sliding fiver hitches on the market; the Pullrite and the HiJacker. The Pullrite is the more popular one and requires a capture plate. The HiJacker does not require a capture plate.

RE: Navistar MaxxForce 7 diesel engine

Golden_HVAC: Does one have to add a coolant filter? If needed, shouldn't that be part of the engine as built?
J Walker: In order to get a six (such as a Cummins ISB) I'd have to go to a larger, much higher-priced motorhome.

Navistar MaxxForce 7 diesel engine

I'm looking at a couple of new thirty three foot Class A motorhomes that are powered by a Navistar MaxxForce 7 diesel. I would like to get opinions on this engine from those who have experience with it and/or who know anything about it.
Thanks.

RE: Junk under rubber roof membrane Update

It seems to me that what you get when you purchase a Tiffin motorhome, NuWa fifth-wheel and a few others, are companies that back up their product. I understand that Jayco also did this in the past. I wouldn't buy a Jayco now if you sold it to me for half price - it wouldn't be worth the aggravation. The negative publicity on this forum has most likely cost them a great deal more in sales than a positive response to Steve's roof problems.

I use mine for a 12-volt DC plug-in voltmeter purchased at Camping World Many years ago.

RE: Hitchhiker

Not long ago they called their purchase prices "no haggle"; if you look at their site now it is called "low haggle". Whatever they call it, we are hoping to purchase one within the next few months - they are very good fivers.

I just tapped into existing outlets to provide outlets for my analog and digital voltage meters so that they would be in a convenient place to be seen.

RE: Electrical Outlets

John Bridge:
I, too, installed additional outlets (in the kitchen area.)
I also agree that RV designers probably have never actually gone out RVing. If they did, even if only for a couple of weeks, they wouldn't design some of their RVs so stupidly!!!

RE: Suspension Systems

We had the Trailair CenterPoint system installed in spring, 2007 prior to going from western Washington state to Nova Scotia, Canada and return. We are pleased with it. It comes with an air gauge. It needs a shot of air every month or two. Our only problem: we had to replace the air fill valve a couple of years ago - it uses the same air valve as a tire (very inexpensive to replace).

RE: black water flush

If you use the built-in black tank flush and forget to open the drain valve, eventually the contents of the black tank will overflow thru the roof vent. That would be a VERY messy situation!
