RE: New Life Style Fiver

They need to do a little streamlining on the front; looks as if it would be like towing the side of a building into the wind!

RE: Ideas for 5th wheel purchase

Agree with RVcrazy. We are looking at a NuWa Discover America 300FK. They have a lot of what we want and very little of what we don't care about.

RE: Post Warranty repair contract

Do what "midnightsadle" says above; set money aside every month. I do that also. These warranty companies are just this side of a complete scam on buyers!

We have them on our current fiver and will have them on our next one (if there is a next one).

RE: Hitchhiker fiver

We're planning on a Discover America 300FK. To date, I've heard only very positive comments on this company and their product. Yes, we know we'll have to upgrade our truck; plan to go to a GMC 3500 SRW.

RE: 2012 or 2006

It is my understanding that all the 2500 & 3500 Chevy's & GMC's (2012) have 36 gallon fuel tanks.

RE: trailer tires for 5th wheel

I'm willing to bet that "Mastercraft" is a Chinese tire brand; they change their brand names like we change socks. I'm using BF Goodrich Commercial T/A's - they are doing very well.

B&W Patriot Hitch

I would appreciate opinions from those who have owned/used a B&W Patriot hitch (not the Companion, but the Patriot).

RE: Radical new wheel-tire design from Michelin

We've been using practically the same tire technology for well over a hundred years; one would think something better could be invented.

RE: AutoMate back in business

I have a very good friend who had an Automate fiver (about 30 feet long, 2 slides) built for them in the early 2000's. It was a beautiful coach! They fulltimed in it for several years.

RE: Replacing G/Year Marathons with What? See P. 4

My fiver came with USA-manufactured 16-inch Goodyear Marathons. I ran these for five years with no trouble except for two flats (nails); the flats were caught in time so as not to cause any tire damage. After the five years I replaced the Goodyears with BF Goodrich Commercial TA'S as recommended by many on this forum; so far they are doing fine.

RE: TrailAir Pin Box

A few years ago I wanted a Trail Air pin box, but they didn't manufacture one to replace the Atwood box on my Okanagan. So I had the same dealer/installer that had installed my Trail Air CenterPoint suspension order and install a Fifth Airborne pin box. With all the adjustments they could make, the Fifth Airborne raised the front of my trailer to the point where it was WAY off level. So, off it came and I was out $100 for the experience of them paying the shipping costs for the Fifth Airborne. Needless to say, that didn't leave me with a great deal of fondness for the Fifth Airborne product which was supposed to fit my particular box.
However, please note that I really like the Trail Air CenterPoint suspension.

RE: Ideas for 5th wheel purchase

Well, now that Carriage is gone, the BEST quality units remaining are New Horizons, NuWa, DRV and possibly one or two others. Anything else is a step down. Of course as you step down the fivers get less expensive. By all means get hydraulic levelers!

Stability - Quadra BigFoot Hydraulic Levelers

To those who have the 4 Quadra brand BigFoot levelers on your fivers:
Is your fiver stable when parked? By this I mean does your fiver shake when you move around in it? Or do you find that you need to use stabilizing jacks in the rear and/or a tripod under the pin to keep it steady?

RE: 2010 BH 3385RL VS 2010 NUWA 339LKRSB

NuWa's frames are built by Young's Welding in Chanute, KS; Heartland's most likely are built by Lippert. In addition, NuWa has a very extensive standard & optional items list plus an excellent reputation (as did Carriage.) My choice will be NuWa.

RE: Differences between towing a 5th wheel and a bumper pull?

I've had both conventional TT and fiver, and on balance the fivers are MUCH easier to pull.

RE: Gas Diesel Fuel Price Difference?

My wife just bought a new 2011 Prius: amazing fuel mileage!
However, to tow the fiver we have a diesel (see sig.) It makes the driving so much more pleasurable than the gas-powered truck that we had prior to purchasing the diesel: no constant shifting and plenty of power for hill-climbing. A diesel may not be for everybody, but for us it's worth the cost. If we can't afford it in the future, we'll give up RVing (very sadly) and travel by automoblie.

As I noted in an earlier post, I installed Duraflaps on my truck 5 years ago and they are still in great shape. I'll purchase them again if I buy another truck.

RE: Atwood Four Point Leveling System

The system Carriage used was the "Big Foot" leveling system manufactured by Quadra Mfg. Co. NuWa uses the same system.
If I ever get another fiver, it WILL have an automatic leveling system; "fooling" around with boards and blocks is the part of setting up that I dislike the most.
