RE: 06 chevy check engine light

The dealer did not charge me for the censor because they did'nt install it. and i have no problem paying for a new turbo if it is needed but to tell me i need a new turbo but can't tell me what is broken when they did'nt even take out the old censor out they just cleaned the connector. On monday if the dealer calls and says that the turbo is broken and you need a new turbo than i"ll be getting a new turbo, hopefully it is still just the censor with only 58,000 miles on the truck it's not even brok in yet , well let you know

RE: 06 chevy check engine light

Update on the censor, dealer called me yesterday in which i assumed my truck was ready but #40fan hit it on the money, the dealer said my censor looked ok so they did'nt put the new one in but there is a noise so i need a new turbo at a cost of $2878. i said the computer says it's the censor so why did'nt you put the new one in to see if it worked when you had the old one out when he came back with we did'nt take out the censor we just cleaned the plug that connects to it so i wanted to know what part is broke that i need a new turbo , he said not sure we just here a noise. I had someone go pick up the truck and have another app. on monday at another dealer. will let you know

RE: Taking hitch out of truck bed

Used to take it out by hand and the the light switch went on like someone else already posted , just pull the pins raise the 5er and out comes the hitch. When time to put back in, back under the hitch as close as possible disconnect hitch and line up by hand, every once in a while i lign up perfect, just depends on much of a hurry i'm in. Good Luck

RE: 06 chevy check engine light

The verdic is in on the check engine light. It is on due to the turbo censor is out. Cost to relace the censor out the door, Part, labor, and of course sales tax is $1077, before i agreed i called around to different shops and out of 6 shops, 1 will do it for $900 after he reseraches it, 2 came back at $1000, 2 won't touch it and the last one said turbo censor --huh, he'd get back to me so the dealer it is, should be fixed tommorrow, was hoping for alot less but it is what it is.

RE: 06 chevy check engine light

Thanks to all who responded to my dilemia, i called around over the weekend and places like autozone, or kragen will sell you a code reader but won't read it for you, pep boys will read the code for $101 but they don't work on diesels, so tuesday i'll take it to the dealer and let them take care of it, i figure i've owned the truck for over 6 yrs and not had to put any money into it, except for after market products so i'll let you know what i find out thanks again for all the responces. Truck is an 06 but i bought it in aug. 05 I used to work on my own cars and trucks but now days it's not worth the head ache i know i would get, so my wife says TAKE IT TO THE SHOP, and that works for me

06 chevy check engine light

I have an 06 crewcab duramax/allison 4x4 with 58,000 miles on it, it was bought in Aug. 05 so it is now 6 years old with an average of only 10,000 miles per year, while driving today my check engine light came on, the first thing i checked was that the gas cap was on tight and it was, next i filled the gas tank up according to the owners manuel that it is possible to get air in the line. the only thing that i have done to the truck truck was to replace the 26 gallon tank with a 45 gallon tank and put a S&b airfilter on it. So i stumped as why the check engine light is on, it is set to go into the shop on tuesday unless i can figure it out, at $125 an hour at the dealer it could get expensive, any suggestions would be welcome.

Up date on gas tank replacement

A couple of months ago i had a 45 gallon tank put in my 06 chevy crew cab 4x4 D/A replacing the standard 26 gallon. Last week the low fuel light came on. (I don't drive it alot) The computer said i used 40 gallons of fuel when the light came on leaving me with a 5 gallon reserve as i see it. With basically all in town driving and the computer saying i got a little over 14 mpg, i was showing 568 miles on the odometer, The $152 fill up su***, but i was expecting that so it did'nt hurt as much. Next project is having an exhaust brake installed.

RE: need advice on RK

Ibought a 30rk sandpiper new in 97 and used it for 4 yrs and never had a problem , sold it and bought 38' MH, i sold it in 06 and went back to a 5er, liked the RK before so i bought a 28RK new in 06 and have never had a dish or glass hit the floor, if i ever buy another 5er i would not hesitate to buy another rear kitchen, plus you get more cabinet space in a RK.

RE: Fuel tank replacement

Got the extended float installed on thursday and now the gas gage works ok, i ran it down to just at a 1/4 of a tank, and watched the gage as i filled the tank, when it hit the full mark it added only about 2 gallons more before it clicked off just like with the 26 gallon tank did. The distance i had traveled on the odomiter was showing 528 miles with a 1/4 of a tank still to go. The miles to empty jumped from the usual 392 to 469 when reset, so now with the correct float installed we will see if the computer will reset it's self or not.

RE: Fuel tank replacement

My biggest concern is if i have 23 gallons in the tank of a 45 gallon tank it should read 1/2 tank give or take, and it would have had they installed the extended float wire, but they did'nt , so thursday moring i'll be on the road for a 3 hr trip to get it installed, as far as if the computer reseting it self to tell me how far i can still travel is no big deal, but when your filling the tank for the first time i was watching the gas gage it hit the full mark and then i put in another 17 gallons before it clicked off. so hopefully everything will work out..........

RE: Fuel tank replacement

laknox the closes place to me is 108 miles away and $236 more, since it was going to take 6 hrs. i desided to go rocklin because my cousin lives only 5 mins. from the shop and we could spend the day in the pool and have a few cold ones afterwards. There anwser to me having to come back and and eat $60 in fuel for there mistake was, Wether you live 5 miles or 150 miles away s""t happens. So i"ll just write it off and when someone ask where did you get your tank installed, i"ll tell them not to go to on the road in rocklin ca. which by the way i got the name from Transer Flow website and i gave them an ear full but i also relize that they can't control the installers. I did find out that tranfer flow will install any tank at the factory for $200.

RE: Fuel tank replacement

UPDATE>>>>> I talked to transfer flow today and they said the 45 gallon tank should read like the orginal 26 gallon tank, a half a tank is roughly 22 gal. it shold not read full and then still put another 20 galllons in. they said it sounds like they forgot to put the extented float wire on, so i called them and yep they did not install the extented wire. now it's a 3 hr, ride back to get the wire installed and 3 hrs back home and around another $60 in fuel, so if your looking to get a lager tank installed i recommend you do not go to On The Road Inc in rocklin Ca.

Fuel tank replacement

This question is for anyone who has ever replaced their fuel tank underneath. I have an 06 Chevy crew 2500HD D/A, I had the 26 gallon tank replaced underneath with a 45 gallon tank yesterday. The installer said that the computer will reset itself to register the miles you can travel. After filling the tank it only showed the nomal 392 miles. It is 175 miles from the installer's shop to my house, after 135 miles the gas gage just started to move and the fuel distance i can still travel started to drop,So my question is will i have to go through a couple tanks of fuel or does it have to be recalabrated to show a 45 gallon capacity ? The installer did'nt seem to know alot. Thanks for any responces.

RE: Rear window sunscreen

I bought mine from rjwmotorsports.com for $89 and took about 15 mins. to install, works great on the tv keeping the heat out. http://i392.photobucket.com/albums/pp5/rdsknfn_57/P1010801.jpg?

RE: Add a generator to a 5th wheel or buy a Honda generator

My honda eu3000 has a wireless remote starter and genny is mounted on the back of the 5er. Totally agree with bfast54, wireless remote hangs by the door with all the keys just walk over and push the button, no need to go outside.
