RE: 2012 or 2006

The 06 came with the small tank, no options for a larger tank, i asked my wife why a new truck to start with, she said 4 months ago you bought me a new 2011 ford edge, and sinse we have now paid off everthing we owe except for the house and owe only a little on it why not. Can't argue with that but i'm keeping the 06, and planning a very nice 30 yr. anavessary in april.

2012 or 2006

My wife asked me the other day if i wanted new truck, normally i would have jumped on it in a heart beat, but as i get older, hopefully smarter, so i started to compare my 06 and what would i gain from an 2012. 2012-------------------------2006 cost $60,000 due..............$00,000 $0 due indash navagation--------------indash navigation remote sarter..............remote starter rear veiw camera---------------rear veiw camera 26 gallon tank...............45 gallon tank no 5er hitch---------------5er hitch already stock suspenion---------------air bags with incab controls stock air filter...............S&B filter 0 miles---------------58,235 After comparing i said no which shocked her and i can't believe i said no, A new 2012 chevy D/A or keep my 06 D/A really a no brainer after comparing the 2, because $60,000 will pay for alot campsites, hotels an a trip to hawaii in April for tour 30 yr. anniverssary. What would you due 2012 or 2006 that i have upgraded.

RE: interior lights

Turtle n Peeps you are 100% right, I have driven this truck for 6 yrs. and have never paid any attention to the little button beside the dimmer switch and that was the problem, i must have hit it by accident the other day when i replaced the driver side mirror because the head would not move and the outside defroster would not work, Dealer wanted $578 to replace the mirror , i got it online for $144 shipped to my house and it took 3 minutes to replace the mirror but 30 mins to figure out how the interior panel came off and went back on. Anyway thanks for solving my interior light problen.

Any ideas would be appreciated

RE: 06 chevy check engine light

UPDATE ON ENGINE LIGHT >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Picked up the truck from the 2nd. dealer this morning. did not not need a new turbo like the 1st. dealer said. The turbo vane censor had a short in it, so they replaced it to the tune of $968, drove 22 miles home from the dealer at VARIOS speeds and the truck ran like it did before the the 1st dealer worked on it, and of course no check engine light was on. THe 1st dealer diognosed it right then tried to rip me off for a new turbo, i guess $125 an hr. is not enough for some dealers, will not ever go back to the MADERA CHEVY dealer again. But the final verdic is, it was only the turbo vane censor.

RE: Upgrade for 2011 3500HD In Dash Navigation

I put a pioneer indash nav. in my 06 siverado back in 07, I found out that all navigation systems require you to stop to look for a new destitation, while they were installing my unit i mentioned this to the tech, and he said no problem, he could get pass that by wireing the unit to the parking brake sending unit with a switch, so while driving just flip the switch and the unit thinks that you are stopped with the parking brake set and allows you (spouse) to punch in another destitation. As far navigation go's I bought my wife a 2011 ford edge 2 months ago, i took it to the shop last tuesday because the nav. crashed , they had to ordered a new SD card for it, will take about a week to get it in. the ford dealer says there systems are the best but did'nt even last 3 months. I updated my nav in my truck last month for $125 from pioneer.

RE: 06 chevy check engine light

The engine came with a standard 5 yr 100,000 mile warranty which would have covered the turbo but i bought it in aug. of 05 so i have surpassed the 5 yr mark. The dealer brake down is $1698 for the turbo $155 sale tax and 7.5 hrs labor at $125, the way i'm looking at it is if it warrents a new turbo then i'll have it put in, since my truck is paid for and i have added indash navigation, air bags with incab controls, a 45 gallon replacement tank underneath already $3000 does'nt sound bad compared to new truck at $60,000 loaded. and i would still have to add air bags and a larger tank. The dealer i took it to at first seems a little fishy, sadly thats where i bought it , well let you know. UPDATE >>> I drove my truck yesterday since getting it back from the dealer, but was thinking why did'nt they charge me the $110 diognastic fee , and now i know the truck now surges and when you get going around 65 and let off, the tubo sounds like what some call a back spin, so there is no doubt they screwed something up, thats when they said i needed a new turbo, so on monday when the new dealer says new turbo i won't be shocked.

RE: 06 chevy check engine light

The dealer did not charge me for the censor because they did'nt install it. and i have no problem paying for a new turbo if it is needed but to tell me i need a new turbo but can't tell me what is broken when they did'nt even take out the old censor out they just cleaned the connector. On monday if the dealer calls and says that the turbo is broken and you need a new turbo than i"ll be getting a new turbo, hopefully it is still just the censor with only 58,000 miles on the truck it's not even brok in yet , well let you know

RE: 06 chevy check engine light

Update on the censor, dealer called me yesterday in which i assumed my truck was ready but #40fan hit it on the money, the dealer said my censor looked ok so they did'nt put the new one in but there is a noise so i need a new turbo at a cost of $2878. i said the computer says it's the censor so why did'nt you put the new one in to see if it worked when you had the old one out when he came back with we did'nt take out the censor we just cleaned the plug that connects to it so i wanted to know what part is broke that i need a new turbo , he said not sure we just here a noise. I had someone go pick up the truck and have another app. on monday at another dealer. will let you know

RE: Taking hitch out of truck bed

Used to take it out by hand and the the light switch went on like someone else already posted , just pull the pins raise the 5er and out comes the hitch. When time to put back in, back under the hitch as close as possible disconnect hitch and line up by hand, every once in a while i lign up perfect, just depends on much of a hurry i'm in. Good Luck

RE: 06 chevy check engine light

The verdic is in on the check engine light. It is on due to the turbo censor is out. Cost to relace the censor out the door, Part, labor, and of course sales tax is $1077, before i agreed i called around to different shops and out of 6 shops, 1 will do it for $900 after he reseraches it, 2 came back at $1000, 2 won't touch it and the last one said turbo censor --huh, he'd get back to me so the dealer it is, should be fixed tommorrow, was hoping for alot less but it is what it is.

RE: 06 chevy check engine light

Thanks to all who responded to my dilemia, i called around over the weekend and places like autozone, or kragen will sell you a code reader but won't read it for you, pep boys will read the code for $101 but they don't work on diesels, so tuesday i'll take it to the dealer and let them take care of it, i figure i've owned the truck for over 6 yrs and not had to put any money into it, except for after market products so i'll let you know what i find out thanks again for all the responces. Truck is an 06 but i bought it in aug. 05 I used to work on my own cars and trucks but now days it's not worth the head ache i know i would get, so my wife says TAKE IT TO THE SHOP, and that works for me

06 chevy check engine light

I have an 06 crewcab duramax/allison 4x4 with 58,000 miles on it, it was bought in Aug. 05 so it is now 6 years old with an average of only 10,000 miles per year, while driving today my check engine light came on, the first thing i checked was that the gas cap was on tight and it was, next i filled the gas tank up according to the owners manuel that it is possible to get air in the line. the only thing that i have done to the truck truck was to replace the 26 gallon tank with a 45 gallon tank and put a S&b airfilter on it. So i stumped as why the check engine light is on, it is set to go into the shop on tuesday unless i can figure it out, at $125 an hour at the dealer it could get expensive, any suggestions would be welcome.

Up date on gas tank replacement

A couple of months ago i had a 45 gallon tank put in my 06 chevy crew cab 4x4 D/A replacing the standard 26 gallon. Last week the low fuel light came on. (I don't drive it alot) The computer said i used 40 gallons of fuel when the light came on leaving me with a 5 gallon reserve as i see it. With basically all in town driving and the computer saying i got a little over 14 mpg, i was showing 568 miles on the odometer, The $152 fill up su***, but i was expecting that so it did'nt hurt as much. Next project is having an exhaust brake installed.

RE: need advice on RK

Ibought a 30rk sandpiper new in 97 and used it for 4 yrs and never had a problem , sold it and bought 38' MH, i sold it in 06 and went back to a 5er, liked the RK before so i bought a 28RK new in 06 and have never had a dish or glass hit the floor, if i ever buy another 5er i would not hesitate to buy another rear kitchen, plus you get more cabinet space in a RK.

RE: Fuel tank replacement

Got the extended float installed on thursday and now the gas gage works ok, i ran it down to just at a 1/4 of a tank, and watched the gage as i filled the tank, when it hit the full mark it added only about 2 gallons more before it clicked off just like with the 26 gallon tank did. The distance i had traveled on the odomiter was showing 528 miles with a 1/4 of a tank still to go. The miles to empty jumped from the usual 392 to 469 when reset, so now with the correct float installed we will see if the computer will reset it's self or not.
