RE: The Official unofficial CPE 2000i Generator Thread

I just purchased two of these. I connected the parallel kit and tripped out the units trying to push a 13500 ac unit. I isolated the breaker so only the ac was getting power. The breaker in the tt is a 20 amp. The parallel kit is rated for 25 amps. What gives?
x2 above. You need a hard start capacitor in your AC unit. They're cheap, and if you have some basic tools and the ability to get on the roof of your RV, you can install it yourself.

RE: The Official unofficial CPE 2000i Generator Thread

Are you trying to connect the cables with the generators already running?
Both generators must be shut off before connecting the wiring.. Wire everything up, and then start one generator at a time, and they should sync just fine.

Hard start caps are cheap.
If you're really cheap and patient you can order a SPP6E knockoff on eBay for about $10 from china.

Keep an eye on the Costco flyers this year. Costco in Canada had a coupon for $100 off last year - it's when I picked up mine.

RE: Early season in Algonquin provincial park (Boondocking?)

Looks like I wont be making it. Truck broke down on the way last night and currently stranded in a parking lot in Orillia. Managed to limp it off hwy12 last night, but things have went from bad to worse since. Looks like we're spending the day at least - nothin open of course...

RE: Early season in Algonquin provincial park (Boondocking?)

Another question - is there a garden hose hookup somewhere in the comfort station at Mew Lake that I can use to fill the tanks in the trailer? I hate to have to drag up full tanks of water which is unlikely to last 4 days anyways. Will want to be able to fill up at the campground but am anticipating that the spigots will still be off...

RE: Early season in Algonquin provincial park (Boondocking?)

...a lot of the parks should certainly be opening earlier, if even with limited services and a skeleton crew...heck, a lot of them should be staying open all winter.
That said, lots of us have been banging our heads into a brick wall for years trying to convince Ontario parks that the Victoria Day to Thanksgiving operating schedule is stupid. There's a LOT of good camping to be had on either side of that schedule but they don't seem to be willing to actually accommodate it.

RE: Early season in Algonquin provincial park (Boondocking?)

Reluctant to go all the way direct to the campground on Thursday evening....it'd probably be around 11PM that we'd be pulling in, and I always hate being "that guy" who wrecks the serenity of the park pulling in with my trailer (and loud diesel), flashing headlights everywhere, etc etc......that, and, call me cheap, but paying another $50 for the one-hour of use on Thursday evening kinda sticks in my craw. ;)
Thinking we'd go as far as Huntsville, boondock there somewhere, and then make the rest of the drive the next morning with an arrival ETA before 10AM or so.....does anyone feel that arriving on that sort of schedule that I'll be screwed for getting a site at Mew?
The opening of LTR sounds great as a backup plan, but in the above quoted email it didn't seem assured, just mentioned as something that happened in years passed.

RE: Early season in Algonquin provincial park (Boondocking?)

I realize we have to pay to get brought the gates, but what I meant by boondocking was the ability to park somewhere inside the park boundaries to sleep if the campground is full. Are there any parking lots or rest areas between the west gate and Mew Lake where this is an option IF Mew lake turns out to be full?
I'd rather be in the campground and be able to drop the trailer, but I also don't want to have to backtrack out of the park at the end of every day to boondock in Gravenhurst or something just because there's nowhere to "legally" camp inside the park simply because all the spots are full.
As for snow, the recent pics I've seen from up there shows little to none - lots of recent pics on the Friends of Algonquin Facebook page. Very early spring up there as well.

RE: Early season in Algonquin provincial park (Boondocking?)

Ok, thanks for the info, much appreciated.
I looked on the Ontario Parks website this afternoon/eve regarding availability and the entire campground is showing as non-reservable/first-come-first-served now...hence why we want to get up there bright and early on Friday morning. I guess they changed vs years passed and no longer take reservations for the easter weekend.
How was the wildlife viewing this time of year? The wife is hyped to see the moose which we understand are easy to find near Hwy 60 this time of year. Was that your experience?

RE: Early season in Algonquin provincial park (Boondocking?)

Ok, hydro would be nice if it's an option, but have 2x6v deep cycle batteries and a good genny, so it wouldn't be the end of the world, despite the furnace power use....as long as we can get a site.
Was the water on at the campground that early so we can fill our freshwater tank? Comfort stations/showevers and everything else open as usual?

Early season in Algonquin provincial park (Boondocking?)

Thinking of taking a trip to Algonquin this weekend - I see that Mew Lake is open for first come first served. We'd be taking the drive most of the way Thursday after work, boondock near Gravenhurst somewhere, and then roll into the park early Friday morning with intention to stay until Sunday afternoon.
Does anyone know if boondocking is allowed anywhere in the park? My only concern is that we get up there and Mew Lake campground is actually full.. Yes, I realize it's highly unlikely, but Mew Lake isn't that big, and I'm the poster boy for Murphy's Law, so anything is possible. ;)
I don't want to have to turn around and jump ship from the park every evening just to boondock somewhere.
We're not picky where we boondock really...very self sufficient, just dont' want to be hassled.

RE: Cost of Diesel in Canada

$1.24 in Oshawa.
You can convert the metric to gallons for the American's amongst us with some Google trickery.
For example, to get $1.24 per liter to dollars per US gallon, simply type this into google:
"124 canadian cents per liter to us cents per us gallon"
Move the decimal points around to get the Dollars Per Gallon price. Google does the currency conversion and everything else automatically based on current exchange rates.
Obviously just change the initial figure to do the conversion with other prices.

RE: The Official unofficial CPE 2000i Generator Thread

You can't overflow the lower tank when you're feeding fuel through a properly (AKA, tightly sealed) converted fuel cap.
The tank is a sealed unit on these machines aside from the cap and the fuel draw to the engine. The vent is on the cap, so when you convert the cap to a sealed feed style it's effectively a closed loop - the engine consumes fuel from the onboard tank, and the external tank feeds fuel into the internal tank to take up the space.
I agree that the T-fitting on an existing fuel line sounds like a lot easier option so long as the external tank is setup so gravity does it's thing. You'd need to make sure that the fuel supply FROM the factory tank is shutoff or disconnected somehow in this situation as otherwise it WOULD overlflow the tank if the external tank was higher than the internal tank - very likely with a jerry can setup. Instead of a T-Fitting, an A/B selector valve would do the job without the worry of fuel backfeeding into the onboard tank and overflowing it.

RE: The Official unofficial CPE 2000i Generator Thread

I thought someone tried the external tank thing successfully on the Champs already?
IIRC all that was important was that the external tank be above the level of the generator so that, again, gravity can do it's thing.
Done right you could even feed 2 of the 2000i's from one large jerry can for simplicity when running paralleled.

RE: Lower awning mounting bracket pulled out - how to repair?

I haven't been able to locate these locally, even at the earlier mentioned Princess Auto.
Is there anyone that would be willing to buy a few of these on my behalf, toss the in a padden envelope, and snail-mail them to me? I'd pay via PayPal, of course. :)
I don't need the tool, I can surely rig something up here with little effort to pull the rivet portion into place.

Guys, can we get the thread back on topic? The synthetic vs. dino oil debate doesn't really belong in a generator technical thread. ;)

Both of mine started right up for me last night - one on first pull, the other on the second.
Did you run the carbs dry when you winterized the machines? Did you pull the plug and see if it's gettIng fuel?

FWIW, The Champions sold in Canada DO have parallel connections, and the parallel kit is freely available. I have it, it works great.
