RE: Nissan Armada Towing MPG

"2012 Keystone Hideout 31RBDS Unloaded Weight 7780 lbs. Carrying Capacity 1755 lbs. Gross Allowed Weight 9595 lbs" Mitch That's more trailer than I would tow with a 1/2-ton. My guess for 8,000-lbs could be like 6-mpg average.

RE: Nissan Armada Towing MPG

Too many variables involved. On big heavy 35" mud tires I average 200 miles per tank. When I had 33" A/T tires I averaged 250 miles per tank. If I go much above 65 mph it seems to reduce another 50 miles per tank. Either way, for me towing the TT seems to kill about 70-100 miles per tank from when not towing. Heavy winds make a hige difference, my awning got blown off while driving though some very heavy gusts on a storm front a couple weeks ago.

RE: Leaving RV for Travel Trailer, Need Wisdom:)

We're towing with a Nissan Armada SL, looking at some of the Evergreen models in the 34ft range and look to be about 7500 pounds loaded. Thanks! Shawn It's your decision but I wouldn't... Driving down to Ft Hood last Friday I met the head of a storm with head winds strong enough that within a 1/4 mile stretch they ripped my awning off the side of the TT and tossed it into the ditch along I-35, and it also blew a huge hole through my plastic propane tank cover... MPG would've been alot worse with a 7k-lbs TT. Wifey is wanting a bigger TT, I'm limiting the weight limit to 6500-lbs MAX... So she's now shopping Ram 3500 Cummins Megacabs to trade in our little Murano for because she wants to get a 8500-lbs TT and keep the Armada. :B

RE: Shopping for new tow vehicle -- 6000 lb capacity

A Lexus?? Wow. I would sure hate to scratch that up, the way I have scratched my Pathfinder. We go into some very brushy areas -- both sides of my SUV are decorated with "Sierra pinstripes" from all of the twigs and branches that have scraped it from front to back. Yea, it's gotta stay away from tree branches. The one I bought is all dinged and scratched from parking lots anyway but I still wouldn't, that's what the Armada is for. When I had the new bumper painted on the Lexus, I actually paid less than I did for the Murano from way back when she wrecked it. There's a reason my Armada is being painted with PlastiDip instead, it's whole lot cheaper and easier to touch up. -lol

RE: Shopping for new tow vehicle -- 6000 lb capacity

I bought a used Lexis GX470 for wifey because she's always wanted one. I thought it's all just plushy foo foo stuff until she TKO'd a neighbor's brick mailbox and I rebuilt the front end. That thing is built for more offroad use than most other vehicles. Come to find out it has a tow capacity of most entry level 1/2-tons and tows smaller trailers very well. It also shares platforms with the FJ Cruiser so it's designed for some decent offroad use. The spindles, suspension, & shafts are really stout little suckas and the underside is fully skid plated. If aftermarket support weren't so lame, they could've been built into some little hoss without much effort at all.

RE: Is this TT too heavy for this SUV?

I weighed with & w/o WD.. I found that it transferred weight from the drive axle up to the steer axle but didn't really transfer anything noticeable back to the TT... I figure it must somehow be a leverage thing.

Your 'Mada is lookin good too Pops! I like the lifted look. One is in the future for me too. Thanks, I've also helped install lifts on a few Titans. Easy trucks to work on IMHO. :B

RE: Is this TT too heavy for this SUV?

As a former Nissan tech i would not pull with one. the axles, trans, and cooling system have enough trouble without the extra weight. I replaced a lot of the related parts compared to the number of them we sold. Armada is not a true 1/2 ton vehicle comparatively. they use lighter drivetrains and shorter wheelbases. a real 1/2 ton truck will tow a lot better than those and probably get better fuel economy. it will also handle the weight much better. and it will live a long life. Interesting... Over 105k miles w/ quite a bit of towing on big offroad tires, lots of "Jeep Trail" offroading and have had nothing of the sort.. Quite a few other owners can say the same.. Pinion seals do leave some to be desired for more offroad use though...

RE: Is this TT too heavy for this SUV?

Don't do it.. Get a 3/4-ton or 1-ton for that TT

RE: Armada Tow Vehicle Tires

325/60-18 can fit on OEM wheels with no lift and at stock height. They do kill MPG though down to 13mpg DD. It's PlastiDip... $5 /can @ Home Depot. Just wipe clean and spray. 2-cans for all 4-wheels.. I used 6-cans total for everything. Just peel it off if you change your mind later. http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb89/PopsRacer/Lifted%20Armada/PhotoFeb0494255AM.jpg width=600

I'm towing on Cooper Discoverer right now.. So far, I love them! I've also been on 325's since 2007, you'll be fine with wider. http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb89/PopsRacer/Lifted%20Armada/1f279849.jpg width=600 http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb89/PopsRacer/Lifted%20Armada/eddb9ce5.jpg width=600

Tow mode doesn't matter, the suspension is always fully automatic when the ignition is on.

RE: Armada Tow Vehicle Tires

Either way works but turning it off requires alot more time to make it up so it might not be back to level for the first 30 miles from when it was turned off.

RE: Armada Tow Vehicle Tires

Checkout http://www.discounttiredirect.com... Personally, I've only towed with OEM then Nitto Terra Grapplers and Cooper Discoverer on the Armada.. Both held solid under load but the OEM were too soft for my preference.

That's a different adjustment.

RE: Armada Tow Vehicle Tires

Then your WD is probably not set aggressive enough.. Basically you want the FRONT axle to weigh on a scale the same as it does when unhitched.

RE: Armada Tow Vehicle Tires

LT's aired up to 38-43 psi make a noticeable difference over the OEM conti tires.. My Armada is more smooth & stable in high winds than both the Murano & Lexus GX.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSC07W7KVMY&feature=youtube_gdata_player
