RE: Alaska travel

I would suggest going over to the Canada-Alaska forum and posting your question there as well. http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/listings/forum/65

RE: Camping right now.....

We'll be out there at the end of June and will spend the summer. We dry camp in the mountains with our two grown kids and families. It's great to look at that beautiful scenery every day, especially when you come from the flat lands like us. Oh by the way we got a picture on email from my daughter in Edmonton. They had snow on the ground yesterday morning. Enjoy it.

RE: Portable water bladders

I have a 50 gallon tank that can fit under the tonneau cover. It's plastic. I just bought a 45 gallon fold up container from CW. I haven't used it yet but will come the holiday week or two in May. My plan is to use gravity to feed the tank on the 5er. It works with the 50 gal. one, it should work with the fold up one.....I hope.

RE: 5vr is too wide!

One of those yellow, concrete filled poles jumped out and got me also. I was putting the 5er into the storage yard. I had to pull up to the machine where you enter the secret code, to open the gate, the gate opened, my mind went blank, I pulled ahead and that daggone pole jumped out and I drove the driver's side of the trailer into the pole just behind the basement hatch up to the hot water tank.We hadn't even used the new 5er yet. Just brought it home from the dealer. There I was trying to rub the yellow off the trailer before anybody saw what I did.Oh don't worry....the pole was fine....I wasn't and the bill came to....too much. Now lets see, I've been pulling trailers for 30 years or so at that time but I smartened up as I paid for a remote control so I can get in the other gate without having to watch out for those yellow poles that jump in your way.

RE: Slide out hydraulic pump

probably a stupid question but is there a shut off for the slide? I have a shut off for each slide. I can turn just one on or two or all together.I could run the pump without it moving the slides. Just wondering if you might have one.

RE: Hole in RV

A friend of ours did the same thing when he brought the trailer home for the first time. After some thought on what to do, he installed an outside light. It doesn't work but it covers the hole.

RE: Converting Carefree Electric Awning for pitch adjustment

Mile High you're most likely right. I couldn't remember the name. The 5er is in storage until next month. Stay safe.

RE: Converting Carefree Electric Awning for pitch adjustment

When we first got our 2009 5er, I was not happy that we couldn't adjust the pitch of the electric awning. Forest River was giving the adjustment arm to their customers, free, at the time. So I called my dealer and they ordered the arm and then they tried to install it. The motor could not reel in the awning at all. After playing with it for quite a while I told the service man to forget about it. My awning has a steep pitch to it so I don't have to worry about water puddling on it but would have liked to have the water drain towards the front of the 5er. If that arm would have been installed I wouldn't have been able to have it drain towards the front anyway as the electrical connections for the motor were in the front arm and that's not the arm that would have been changed. So now I have a different way of directing the water away from the door side of the awning.

RE: in bed aux fuel tanks

I have a 50 gallon Transfer Flow in my truck's bed. It is a computer controlled fill system. Love it. I do have a 1 ton dually tho'.

RE: Grey Tank Sizes

I've got a 35 gallon tote. It will sit at the back of the truck bed and I will pump into it using a macerator pump(Flojet). Then I will take it to a dump and use a 3 inch hose to dump into a black water dump. I do have to say, our grey water does go into the ground at the boondocking camp site and we've been doing that for 30 some years. There is no residue or smell. It goes into a hole that I dig and is capable of handling 40 gallons of grey water. When we leave the site it is better than it was left by other people who have been there. My kids grew up at this place and I had no qualms about dumping the grey water. It's what I do. You do and think what you want.

RE: Camping / fishing north of Edmonton

From what I have been told you can't use barbed hooks or use bait if you aren't native Indian.

RE: Passport Question about entering Canada from the U.S.

I think you would need passports more for re entering the U.S. than for entering Canada. Check with your customs office before you travel to be sure. Maybe even call Canada customs to be on the safe side.

RE: mud flaps for protecting fifth wheel

I have a rock guard and I have a 2011 GMC duramax. It melted the right hand side plastic and warped the rock guard. I cut the right side off as well as the left. I also had mudflaps installed on the dually that hang down to 4 or 5 inches off the ground. I have anti sail mudflaps so between the mudflaps and the modified rock guard, the job gets done.

RE: Bird nest in the pin box

We got two mesh laundry bags. Opened up the bottom of one to get over the rear of the king pin box and then pulled the second one over the end of the first. Tied them up tight onto the pin box and so far so good. Last year I pulled out my cords and out came a nest full of baby birds. Not good and messy and smelly.

RE: Which Hitch to get....

I had a Pullrite Super Glide and loved it with my short box GMC 3/4 ton. Never had to worry about the trailer and cab meeting. It's expensive but worth every cent as far as I'm concerned. I now have a 1 ton DRW long bed and have a regular Reese hitch now. All you have to do is think about something else while backing or making a tight turn with a non slider and there will be a meeting of the minds. One of them being "Da Boss". It could prove to be costly to repair the big ding or replace the rear window. IMHO the slider is safer.

RE: Electrical Question

I don't have your trailer but I had a similar experience and was stumped also. I got this advice. Follow the positive battery cable up to the block it attaches to. You might find those little black buttons on top of the block. You might have to move a piece of material to see or feel those buttons. If one is higher than the rest press it down and see what happens. Hopefully you have the sam thing as I did. I would disconnect all power from the trailer before putting new fuses in and then connect power back up. My problem was when I hooked my batteries back up I touched the positive cable to ground accidentally. Good luck.

RE: flo-jet or sani-co macerator pumps ???

I have a flow-jet also and have a 5/8 hose for it. Works great. Pumps uphill. Comes with everything you need plus extra, big o ring. You supply the hose. I'll be in the Rockies this summer, dry camping and my plan is to pump into a 35 gal. tote in the bed of the PU and when I go for clean water, dump at a dump station.I have an extra length of that cheap blue hose to hook up to the tote hose, which should give me enough length to reach the dump hole. Like Old-Biscuit said, comes in it's own case also. My 24 cents worth.

RE: New Fiver has ARRIVED....finally

OktsCamp, I was just wondering if you have to go to the dealer and spend 2 to 3 hours going through and learning how everything works? My daughter and hubby just bought a trailer in Morinville and that is what they have to do apparently. I thought it was a PDI but the dealer says no it a training session. There is a cost and it's in the selling price. I think it's a good idea for newbies. Thanks.

RE: 50 amp and 30 amp service

One word answer- no. It won't hurt your trailer and you can use your AC...if you don't use the microwave at the same time. My 5er is a 50 amp hook up but I use a 4000 watt genny with a 30 amp outlet and we dry camp most of the time. If you haven't got one, get a 50 to 30 amp adapter or you can get a 50 to 30 amp power cord that hooks up to your trailer just like the 50 amp cord. Have fun and enjoy.
