RE: two generators or one?

We've got the Yamaha 3000. It runs our single 15,000 btu a/c 11+ hours on it's 3.5 gallon tank. It's quit, runs on gas that's easilly available and is quiet. Only draw back is you can't load/unload by yourself. That said, we leave it in truck bed and have a cable lock to keep honest thieves from stealing.
Downside is that if you need to run another high draw appliance like hair dryer, electric skillet, etc. you'll need to kick off a/c. Minor inconvenience in my opinion.
The Honda 3000 would probably be just as good if you prefer red paint.

RE: Packing for 3 week trip

Wife would pack plenty of dry snacks. About 5 meals worth of meat in freezer. With 5 in family we would usually have 1 weeks worth of food not including milk. We packed about 5-6 days worth of everyday clothes and one nice set.

RE: Skyline 5er

We had a 1996 Skyline Nomad TT that we sold to a friend in 2005. We were pleased with it and it's still going strong for our friends.

RE: TT vs 5th wheel

We had a TT before 5er. You know the benefits of the TT. It's great having truck bed for stuff. We had a Hensley hitch so the normal issues with TT towing didn't apply in our case.
Get figerglass exterior. Much easier to keep clean.

RE: Towing fifth wheel

We have the hitch set up like your Ford. Several years ago it was referred to as "Signature Series". Works great and no slack or slop.
We don't have any kind of pin box modifications, but we do have Mor Ryde RE on 5er. No issues with ride quality that we know of, but we havent' used any of these other products so maybe we don't know what we're missing.

RE: How long of a 5th wheel to get

We looked at this and ended up wanting to be less than 35'. We came to this conclusion knowing our first TT was 30' plus about 3' for tongue. A 35' 5er ends up being about the same in total lenght.
That said, our unit is just under 34' and is plenty long, but we've never had any issues at RV Parks, campgrounds, or State Parks.

RE: HENSLEY OR PROPRIDE

Owned a Hensley. Loved it. Unless price is an issue, you're probably splitting hairs.

RE: 5th Wheel bike rack

We've had a two bike carrier for over 10 years that attaches to bumper with "u"bolts and never had any problems. Easy install and easy to remove if necessary.

RE: Getting more clearance on my Jayco

I did this some years ago on a 30' TT we owned. We were dragging all the time and I was careful. Worked great for us. Eliminated dragging the tail and it didn't seem to effect handling or anything else.

Website says campground closed until Mem. day. We stayed there last April in parking lot as security said this was OK. Want to go back in March. Anyone know if this is a problem this year.

RE: Camping in parking lots on the LV Strip

We stayed at Oasis Las Vegas a few years ago. Not on strip, south of airport off Blue Diamond Rd. Nice place, but a bit pricey. Easy to get into and out of.
Circus Circus KOA is on strip not sure about access, but probably cheaper than the above.

RE: Thinking of adding new exhaust and cold air intake

I put K & N COI on a 1996 GMC 5.7, but not exhaust. Noise of the intake alone at certain rpms towing was uncomfortable loud. I was towing an 8000 lb. TT. I'm sure your Toyota 5.7 is a much more potent engine.
I'd save the money if it were me.

RE: Need Safe Rec'd for family near New Orleans

We stayed at French Quarter RV Park a couple years ago. Nice place with wall around entire campground and gated at entry. Great pool. Since it's in the city they'd have easy taxi access. It's a bit pricey.

RE: TT Trade-in Question

We sold our previous TT ourselves once we ordered the 5er you see pictured. When it came in the bunk set up was incorrect. The dealer
realized their mistake and another was ordered. New one was delayed and we came within a month of getting it before a trip to Disney in FL.
I think I'd hang on to it or at least make the final trade in subject to accepting the new one. No reason they couldn't show it, subject to the above.

We stayed at Garden of the Gods a few years back and it was fine.
It appeared they had an area with larger spots for big rigs.

RE: Generator Selection

We've had the Yamaha your considering since 2005. It will run our 15,000 btu A/C for over 11 hours in 90 plus temps on one tank of gas. It will also run lights, TV and frig. at same time. If you try to run microwave, electric skillet, hair dryer, etc. at same time it will overload and trip out. So you just have to shut off a/c if you need to run another high draw item.
We keep in back of truck bed and usually run it from here.
Personally, I'm glad we spent the money for a good unit. Honda will be similar. Can't offer an opinion on the others.
Only maintenance during ownership has been oil changes, one air filter, and a spark plug each year.

RE: Where to stay inTampa

Lazy Days in Seffner, just east of Tampa is a nice RV Park, plus you have their dealership, Camping World, Cracker Barrel, and Flying J right there as well.
If it's your first trip you'd certainly have plenty of resources available right there.

RE: Swamp tour Airboat ride

We did one two years ago near New Orleans. We were staying at the French Quarter RV park. Can't recall name, but it was about 45 minutes away near several plantation tour homes (Hwy. 23?). Boat would hold about 7 as I recall. Saw lots of aligators. Maybe a local could offer more details. I might have the name in our camping log. PM if you want me to look.

RE: Help!! dealer misordered new fifth wheel

We ordered the rig in our sig. It had options for the bunk room. We wanted quads. When it arrived, it had two doubles. Looked great, but we had 3 kids and wanted quads. I think the order probably stated "double bunks" which salesman thought werea double set of bunks not two double beds.
Nonetheless, they realized mistake and ordered another unit. Strictly by the papers we would probably been stuck with it. Dealer pays for units upon delivery. Maybe offer them a few bucks to cover their interest.

RE: DIY oil changes on the road

You might park in a truck stop. Drivers regularly can be seen doing minor repairs. Park somewhere out of the way and do it during the day when they have the fewest trucks.
I once saw a crew working on a race car that they'd wrecked the night before in a McDonald's truck parking area. Wives were sunbathing, while the guys worked on car.
