RE: On the Road Income

You can find fishing flys in bulk on EBay for about a buck each. On the river, they easily go for two bucks each. It is a slow business, though. More for fun than profit, but if you have the hot fly of the day, they will beat a path to your door. Hide two hot flys in a twelve pack to increase profits.

RE: Branson Mo.

What is the best route from Memphis, Tn. to Branson Mo. I will be pulliing a fifth wheel camper
Google Maps
On the "Get Directions" tab, enter your location and destination in the windows.
It will return a map with directions, mileage and estimated time.
You can add another destination to tweak the route, if you have a preferred route in mind.

RE: Cat house?

The best one that I remember was a passway to basement storage and custom screens on both sides of the basement. Purrrfect kitty townhouse. When parked, the basement doors could be left open, and the upstairs passage could be closed, too.
Sorry, I do not know how to find it now.

RE: Calling all cooks -- I need your help

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
KFC freezes and reheats well. Pack the chicken in large throw-away aluminum roaster pans and hide the red/white buckets.
For sides, pick your favorites. Macaroni can be made in batches and the velveeta can be melted in the microwave (with a little milk) to add before serving.
Salad can be made up early and served in the aluminum roaster pans, and topped up when needed. Hit the sales, you can pick up salad dressing for $1 in multiple varieties.
Corn on the cob is popular, and may be in season locally. Downside is the work involved and cleanup. How about a green bean and onion dish instead? (A little vinegar and oil)
For desert, I like frozen pecan pies. No heavy kitchen work, and everybody likes it.

RE: Grease splatter guard and lids for frying pans

What say you, do you use splatter guards and/or lids on your frying pans in the RV?
My favorite is a round glass lid that I rescued from a neighbors pile on trash day. It fits my favorite fry pan. It rests about halfway down the curve inside the pan. Glass is great, I can see the food cooking. It holds the heat in, but the main reason for using it is to prevent the fire alarm sounding. The new alarms are terrible. I cannot fry a decent steak because of the fire alarm. Mine reads a perfect sizzling steak as a raging flame.
A good lid saves a lot of cleanup time. Splattering grease puts a fine film on everything.

RE: I don't get it

How do people to make such a big deal out of getting from place to place. I use to hitchhike from Sacramento to Seattle at 20 years old no big deal. Now it takes a forum, a GPS and 20 consultants. What happened to self reliance? Sorry but I just don't understand it.
A lot of things do not make sense. Road maps were free once, now they want big bucks for them. It is cheaper to go online and print your own. (or use the device of your choice)
I hitched a lot, too. The part that I "didn't get" was that a third of my rides were women driving alone.
Once on the way from Michigan to Florida, I made a detour through Alabama to see my Granny. Getting back to the interstate, a couple picked me up. I remarked that I usually never saw a stop light, country roads were new to me. I ended up driving them all the way to Tampa, they were not famiiar with the interstates.
Another thing that I don't get is campgrounds. I use public access sites, park n ride lots, state and national forest sites and nature preserve lots.
It takes all kinds. There is more than one way to do almost anything.

RE: Pork Ribs in a crock pot

I broil a bit, seasoned with Mrs Dash, to brown and remove grease, then in the pot with onion and tomato puree. Leave the lid loose to thicken the sauce and fill the house with delicious smell. When the bones fall out and the sauce turns brown, it is done. Stir with a fork to break up the meat for bbq.

RE: Internet on the road - device from Virgin Mobile

I have two of those devices and like them. No problems and easy to use. Good speed and full coverage *here*.
Remote areas may not have coverage, but interstates appear to have connectivity in most areas.
I like VMobile because you can let service lapse without penalty, and the device will store funds (even with service lapsed). I can then resume service with a few clicks if I go on the road unexpectedly.
If you top up with CC, you lose unused time. Best to pay in store and top up with a PIN, which will store the funds, to apply when the current month runs out.
Speed will slow after 5Gb, but the speed is still high enough for most uses.

Just start with ice-cold milk, sugar (or Splenda) and vanilla.
Next time, for a change, throw in a can of frozen strawberries, or some Nestles Quik,

RE: Hard filler for counter trim gap?

Use Gorilla Glue. You can mix it with a few drops of water (water causes it to foam and expand) apply it with a toothpick and smooth it before it hardens.
Or you can moisten the gap and squirt it directly from the squeeze bottle. Instructions call for moistening the parts.
I use it for fly tying-- making hard bodies and heads. It firms up in a few minutes and sets hard in a few more. The new type is quick setting, marked 2x or fast set.
It can be colored using a permanent marker to match the counter or trim.

RE: Surging problem continues some - cruise control?

I suspect that the cruise is doing its job and you do not really have a problem. Try setting the cruise lower, there will be less surging at 64 than at 75.

RE: Crock Pot - Ham Hock & Navy Bean Soup

Call me lazy, but I save hours of cooking by using precooked white michigan beans. Toss the sliced onion into the pot with the beans on top. I use cubed ham instead of hocks. Sometimes I add a diced carrot for color. Don't worry about leftovers, there will not be any.
Variations include substituting kielbasa or cheddar brats for the ham.
Serve with hot cornbread and diced onions, salad and iced tea.

RE: How do you reduce length of internet address and rename it?

I would like to know how one copies an internet address (say of a photo or story) and then when you go to paste it in your message you can rename it? For example, you find something on the internet that you want to refer readers to. The internet address is something like 60 letters, but you want to rename it and include it in your message to something short like "Click Here". How do you do that?
http://tinyurl.com/ allows you to custom alias part of the url (if not previously taken) it is easy and quick. Just copy the entire url and go to tinyurl, paste the long addy and choose custom alias (e.g. "myphotos", or "trailertips") to include in the shortened tinyurl output.
try it once. You will want to keep a shortcut to tinyurl on desktop or startbar.

RE: Pole Barns for storage

I am in the planning stages of a pole barn for storage of my tt. Some advice from the camping gods on this site will be greatly appreciated. What would be the minimum door heighth and overall heighth I would need, would like to build for future consideration of either a 5er or class A
Check building codes in the place that you want to build. Many places do not allow pole-barn type building any more.
