RE: auxiliary tank

I put a 80 gal RDS in my gasser. Installation was easy. I had a 100 gal L-shaped tank in my old truck but I like the RDS better.

RE: Matching Tire/Wheel Size to 19.5 inch Visions?

I had the 245 - XDS 2 - load range H on a 6.5" wheel. The Vision was rated at 4500 lbs and the XDS 2 was about 4950 each. My son has the truck now. The tires are 4 yrs old and have 60,000 mi. on them. I used Dyna Beads for balancing and nitrogen at 90 psi. The tires have never had to have pressure adjusted in 4 yrs. I went to Alaska last summer with a 100 gal fuel tank and a popup truck camper, never had to give the tires a second thought. Tread life show very minimal wear.
The only thing I didn't like was the center caps. The plastic chrome look started flaking off. I took my original Chevy center caps and used my drill press to mill a 1/4" off the back so they would fit and still use the original plastic caps to hold them on.

RE: New Truck Break in period

I had 8 new trucks since 77, all Chevys and I ordered all but one of them. I drove them as I would everyday right from the begining. A couple of them seen the triple digit limiter kick in before 100 miles on the ticker, including the present one, and at least 2 had over 500 mile pulls with a 8k gross TT before 200 miles. Never had a rear end problem or a tranny issue. 2 that I know for sure are still working hard nearing 250k. I only got rid of one before 100k and that was because the wife wanted to get rid of the small block, my fault for listening to the advertising campains and the BIL wanted it from day one.
Drive it like you will everyday and it will take a set to habits. Change the fulids and fix the small problems it will last a long time.

RE: 2008 Sierra 2500 HD Exhausted...

Try calling a few of the local muffler shops and see if any of them have a stock system they cut off to install one of those "Super High Performance Extra Loud No Power Increase Look At Me" systems on somebody else's truck..Can't beat the longevity and quietness of a stock system..
B.O.
X2 - My 97 with 215,000 miles still has the original system.

RE: Awning rod multi tool

I keep an extra one in the bed of the truck and use it as a "getter", extended reach device. It is also used in conjuction with a plastic wedge as a locked door opener. The wedge is inserted into the top edge of the locked door so the bent rod can be manuvered to open the locking mechinism.

RE: Which generator setup????

My BIL has the EF3000iSEB. His trailer has the larger 15k AC unit. He has no problem running it no matter the temp. They still turn the AC off when using the microwave. My 8 yr old EF3000iSE would run my old rigs 13.5k AC unit and the microwave at the same time. They easily run 12 hrs on the 3.4 gal gas tank.

RE: Slippin' and a Slidin'.....fixed!!!

DJ, I used a small o2 fan blowing up over the coils. I added a 3 volt regulator and a couple of resistor in the battery area and ran it from the 12 volt system. I think the fan was about $6 at wallyworld.

$ 1.79 florescent light repair

I had 2 florescent lights quit. Searching and studing, I tried a diode replacement repair that worked.
First remove the light fixture, defuser and bulbs.
http://i47.tinypic.com/t4zaqb.jpg
Squeeze the reflector to access circuit board. There's a wire attached, leave it and just rotate the reflector out of your way.
http://i45.tinypic.com/2mla4x.jpg
The ballast circuit board.
http://i45.tinypic.com/30utw5x.jpg
The 2 items in the yellowish area, top center, are the diodes we will be removing. The discoloration was caused when the diodes failed.
http://i48.tinypic.com/357rtbt.jpg
There are 2 pop rivets that hold the board in place. The one to the center can be drilled out with a 1/8" bit.
http://i46.tinypic.com/huhug8.jpg
I suggest you use a smaller bit and try to drill completly through the one nearest the switch. This one passes through a black 3 legged FET (Field Effect Transistor) and is a bit harder to remove.
http://i50.tinypic.com/4jqdd3.jpg
As you remove the board there will be 2 paper insulators, make sure you keep them to reinstall.
Here's out replacement parts. Radio Shack cat no 276-1144, 2 pcs 3 amp rectifier diodes, cost $1.79.
http://i50.tinypic.com/2hhjc51.jpg
With a low wattage pencil type soldering iron heat the diodes legs on the solder side of the board and pry them, one by one, from the board. Remove them and discard.
http://i47.tinypic.com/2a62v61.jpg
Bend the legs on the new diode to match the holes on the board. I used a small drill to clear the holes on the board.
http://i47.tinypic.com/rwkxat.jpg
Inset the diode with the silver band toward the end with the 3 legged black FET. Bend the legs to hold it in position for soldering.
http://i50.tinypic.com/34yy9g4.jpg
Solder the legs and clip off the remaining wire.
http://i48.tinypic.com/s30yf6.jpg
Pop rivet the board back onto the base, make sure to put the paper insulators back in place. On both of the lights that I fixed the pop rivet broke out the mounting hole on the Black 3 legged FET, but they still worked.
http://i46.tinypic.com/erajgh.jpg
Reinstall the reflector.
http://i50.tinypic.com/35k3cb6.jpg
Rewire and hang the light fixture, install the bulbs and the defuser.
Cross your fingers and hopefully, LET THERE BE LIGHT!

RE: Is awning repair tape worth the cost and effort?

I tried Gorilla tape a couple of weeks ago. It's should last longer than Duct tape but it's only available in black or camo. I like the idea of sewing on a new bead better.

RE: Installing a fifth wheel hitch

I just did the B&W turnover ball, base for the Companion 5th wheel. The only holes to drill were, the 4" hole in the center and holes for the safety chain if your going to use the gooseneck, in the bed. The 4" hole is measured from the back of the bed and centered. The Safety chain holes are drilled by running the bit through the base from the under side and align automatically. The base used exsisting holes in the frame, using a couple pieces of metal to hold the bolts while inserting through the frame.
Never drill a clearance hole 3/16" oversize, your asking for a bolt to pull through. Standard clearance is 1/64" and sloppy is 1/32" over.

RE: 6.0,, 6 speed, tow haul towing

I have the same setup in my dually. 13 mpg is the best I've got empty. With my TT (7,000 lbs) I don't even use the tow haul mode. The book says you don't need to unless your over 75% of your gross. I would tow mostly in M5 and got about 8 mpg.
I'm off to pick up a 13,500 GVW 5er this weekend so my towing world is up for an adjument period.

RE: in bed aux fuel tanks

I have a RDS 80 gal tank in my truck. I like all the extra port fittings on top of the tank, should cover about any installation. I gravity feed through a manual ball valve, filter and a 12v solenoid valve.
