RE: Winne-will not start

It dosen't have the GM pass key anti theft system does it? This system has to recognize the correct key or it won't fire the injectors. Used on many trucks and cars but I don't know about MH's.

RE: New/used Silverado 2500HD 6.0L Gasser

My 2008 2500HD has two batteries in it, I am not sure which package it came with. My guess is possibly the plow package or camper package?I don't know why the plow package would have 2 batteries, so I'll say it's likely the camper package. GM used to put 2 batteries in trucks with the camper package in the 70's and 80's. I have the second battery tray in mine also (2004 gas). Is is an option for a camper. It included battery, relay, and some wiring.

RE: Honda EU2000i - 49 State vs 50 State Difference?

$80 more to protect you from yourself,----yeah, ok. If thats worth it to you, go ahead and get the CARB model. It is nice to have a choice though.

RE: Honda EU2000i - 49 State vs 50 State Difference?

Sometimes the Calif models will be tunned a bit leaner for emission reasons. They will replace an adjustable mixture jet with a fixed one for example by making it tamper proof. Stuff like that. Myself I go for non Calif model if possable.

RE: Duramax TV Problem

Picked it up all repaired. DOES NOT SHIFT BY WIRE! Has two seperate cables as in TWO. Part numbers are: 25995571 and 25995564. I have 44K miles on it and it was a Goodwill Repair. Am a Happy Camper once again. I bought it with 40K miles on it. Seemed to check out good so I did the deed. Was just surprised the shifter went out when it did with no warning. Ran good and we parked and went in to eat dinner. Came out an hour later and nothing, just lights is all. Glad you got it fixed. That would've been a nightmare had you been camping. My buddy and I were deep in the woods hunting. And with his 2003 Duramax while driving slowly on a forest sevice road, ran over a fallen tree branch/stick on the road. Next thing we heard a thump underneath the truck and the gear shift slammed down into 1st gear. We stopped and were unable to move the shift lever into any other gear, it was jambed down into fist gear only! We pulled out the broken stick as best we could, but still stuck in first gear. Headed back out the 25 miles to town in 1st gear all the way, and from there had it towed into the dealer. $300+ later it was repaired. Dealer said the stick jammed and mangeled the shift lincage so bad it had to be replaced. Two things come to mind here--we could not have backed up anywhere to turn around in the woods, and---if we had shut off the engine we could not have restarted it at all, and probably spent the night in the woods. Whew!

RE: Crown Battery raises recommended absorption Voltage

As to the question of why the vehicles run that high of a voltage, it is pretty obvious it is because they need to. Jim, This is not the case with some, or all, late model alternators. For instance, the voltage level of the alternator my Ford motorhome tapers down as the engine battery and the motorhome batteries (attached to the engine battery in direct - no diode drop - parallel) charge up and as the ambient air temperature warms up. I know, because I have a voltmeter mounted in the cab on the dash that I watch when driving. In fact in extreme outside temperature heat and after many driving hours, so that all batteries were fully charged by the alternator, I've seen it's voltage output drop down at highway speeds to as low as 12.9 volts. Of course in cold weather when first starting the engine, the alternator output always starts out as 14.XX volts. Perhaps some late model alternators are even controlled via the main vehicle computer and it's sensors - instead of simple electronic components contained within the alternator's case - not sure on this though. For my alternator, it's output voltage seems to be controlled in a fairly sophisticated manner. I assume other late model vehicles have similar control over their alternators. I own a 99 Jeep Cherokee. It tapers it's charging voltage by monitoring the battery temperature. A thermistor type sensor located in the bottom of the battery tray contacts the bottom of the battery thus lowering the voltage when warm. Maybe many do exactly this.

RE: Conclusion to Suburbane SF-30 furnace problem

170 degree air sounds much too high to me. How about like something really stupid going on here like maybe a squirel cage fan installed backwards? Ran into that once. With the blades rotating backwards it will still move air, just not near enough. Have you checked for that? I know, I am anal about solving a problem too. Maybe check that the combustion wheel and the room air blade fins are the same direction?

RE: Conclusion to Suburbane SF-30 furnace problem

Short cycling on the high limit switch always means the furnace is putting out more heat than the fan can remove from there. Repaired one in a camper by replacing the duct work with solid aluminum 4 inch dryer pipeing. The flexable stuff is very restrictive, causing the air to tumble along the ridges inside thus restricting it greatly. Think turbulence. Another way of course would be to reduce the flame (jet size) like you did. How about the return air supply, any restriction there?

RE: New Batteries, Charger acts much differently

The 15.3 volts and 9 amp indicates a battery that has sat unused for a time and is slightly sulfated. Probably will be fine after the electrolite mixes from charging. The voltage should then drop a bit.

RE: Charging the batteries while towing

Hi, You need to beef up the charging path with #4 wire. Voltage drop in the existing wire may only allow 5 to 10 amps at best. I towed a TT with a Chev PU with an installed amp meter in the charging line. The most I saw was 15 amp with a low trailer battery. Wire was #12 all the way.

On both Silverados I owned, a 74 and a 2004 I now own, you just order and install a replacemant left hinge. Install it on the right, two bolts.

RE: 454 TBI dtc codes 15 &16

Whenever a number of seemingly unrelated codes show up the problem points to what manages all these--the ECM or engine control module. Look for low voltage such as a blown fuse, intermitent connection, bad ground, etc.

RE: In your opinion who is first to the top?

Take each one, add the torque and HP together and divide by two. Thats about what you have to work with. They are fairly close to the same.

RE: Trailer length for my Ford Explorer

I have towed my 18ft trailer with a Jeep Cherokee. It weighs a bit over 4000 loaded ready to go. Power or cooling was not a problem with trailer tow option and 3:55 ratio. However sway from 18 wheelers and wind was. As others have said a good sway control setup is needed. I would say about a 20ft trailer is a good limit.

RE: Can't drive over 55 MPH...

Since the only thing that was changed WAS the tires, then that is the problem. New tires have a deep squishy tread as opposed to the worn down very firm tread of the front tires. This then can cause some sway. Yes, drop the pressure if not towing or--replace the front tires also. Had the same thing happen on a car one time--radials on the front and bias ply snow tires on the rear, tended to sway.

RE: Honda EU2000 stuck intake valve

Yes, a not so well known trick is to always put the engine at top dead center for storage. This does two things--like above, it keeps moisture out of the engine, and-- when you restart it the valves will be pushed open positivly by the camshaft, thus they can't hang up. Do this for all small air cooled engines with valves.

RE: Explain limited slip differential

Near as I can tell, nobody got "limited slip" correct yet. Limited slip does NOT apply power to both wheels equally. It applies SOME power to the wheel that isn't spinning. Sometimes that will get you moving, sometimes not. LOCKING differential applies power to both wheels equally. When one wheel spins enough, you'll hear a clunk come from your rear axle. That means both wheels are locked together and getting equal power. Sometimes you move, sometimes not. Bingo!
