RE: Looking to make a generator quieter and cleaner output

One of the problems with creating a quieter exhaust, is that you are changing the design and operation of the engine. Don't you think that the mfgr. would have done it, if they could, because EVERYONE wants a quieter genset! If you add an extension or different muffler to your system, you are going to create additional backpressure on the system, which isn't good. Those extension pipes that redirect the exhaust up the side of the RV seem to work, but who really knows if there is a negative effect on the longevity of the engine? As for filtering the electric....you can probably buy some sort of surge suppressor or "electronic filter box" that will do that, but as mentioned, you may as well buy the Honda, for what it's going to cost you. Unless you plan to operate some sort of electronic specialty equipment, I don't see why you are too worried about the voltage coming out of the genset, as long as it 110VAC. Most of the normal equipment you will use, will handle what that genset will put out, without a problem.

RE: I need your opinion about a camper

Looks very nice.....but, I think that remote may slide off the table:B What kind of numbers do you have, as far as the loading of the truck...is this going to be too much TC for it? Looks like a lot of TC:) If it works, go for it:)

RE: Additional charge for electricity

If there was a meter, how are you to know what it was when you first got there? It seems that they didn't give you any numbers for the start of the meter use, or even later, but rather just picked a number to charge you. Quite underhanded if you ask me. I would make a note of it with RVParkReviews.com. I'd also write to the CG owner, and explain how you felt that you were wronged. It may not do much, but maybe they will do a better job of making folks aware. Often those little index card size signs that they have posted on the back wall, or under the counter glass, don't get read. At the very least, they should have something on their website. Contest it with your CC company. Several folks asked what CG this was, and I guess you don't want to say bad things about them....and name them too:) Saying it's a very nice CG, but then complaining about it, doesn't make sense. You can still say that they were well maintained, etc....but this was an issue....and I would hope that many of these CGs read these forums, to help improve their places......so why not post the name?

RE: Leveling side to side with a slide out

Level with slides IN, then put the slides out! :) Unless you have an extremely heavy slide, you shouldn't have any dip from it...or at least not enough to really notice.

RE: Camping 1st time with 1yo and 3 other kids

We've got a 2-year old Grandson, who we want to go camping with, but just haven't been able to just yet....though we plan to get away this Summer..... I got many suggestions and ideas from reading the LivelyLittleCampers blog. They are also on this Forum, though I haven't seen much lately, but then again, it's winter. They have twins who are about 4 years old now, but the blog talks about them over the past few years, and how they have adapted and such with their P'Up camper. You may also get some ideas of where to go on trips, as they write very well, about the campgrounds and such here on the East Coast (though mostly in the Northeast) HERE is their Blog link. One of the things that we got, was the little Pea-Pod Tent that pops up quite easily, as we worried about MJ getting up and out of the dinette bed we have. With this, we would, in a way, have him locked inside the little tent. http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/ciu/65/9f/aa81828fd7a0b3425fd4f010.L.jpg width=300

RE: 1995 Onan Diesel Generator - Two Questions

Yaj is right on with all counts...... You really are exercising the electrical end of the generator, though on the gasoline models, you are also running the gas through, so that there is less chance of gumming up....not as big an issue with a diesel, but you still want to get the electrical end exercised. You can run the main engine, but as Yaj said, if it doesn't get up to a good temperature, you aren't really helping it much. It may reach operating temps in 15 minutes or so, at idle, but it makes more sense to take it out on the road, as there are other things on the coach (brakes, seals, tranny, etc) that should be operated too.

RE: Tow dolly choices - Acme EZE or Landgrebe TD 40 101?

I don't believe you add the total weight of the van and the dolly to figure that weight limit on the tow receiver. After all, you aren't putting that kind of weight on the hitch....probably only a few hundred pounds at best. That said, you do need to calculate the weight to your MH limits, but not the hitch weight....or so I understand it. You will want something that has brakes. Both your choices are good......but you may find others out there too......since the weight isn't the issue you thought.

RE: Emporia VA on I95 and US 58

Yes, that is a true speed trap area.....I travel it all the time, and just set the cruise control as soon as I get into VA. They are getting at least $100 for the tickets and court costs, so it's quite lucrative for the area. These aren't State Troopers, but County or City Cops usually.....which I wonder about, since I-95 is a Federal Highway? I've gotten a ticket there a few years back, and our son has also....we watch out now......and consider the trip between NC/VA border and Richmond as a SLOWER area. Fortunately, they don't go crazy, in that they allow 5 mph over limit, without problems, but I'd worry if I wanted to go 10 mph over.....and besides, the speed limit there is 65 mph I believe?

RE: Rules Regarding Carrying Ammo

What does this have to do with RVing. Ask it on a NRA site. While off topic, I have found that this group is extremely helpful on a wide range of topics, so I really don't see a problem with the post. We always have the option of skipping past it.....:) To the O/P...I guess I'd suggest calling a gun dealer, and ask if they can tell you the answer. Maybe call the Cops, but use a pay phone, and don't talk for more than 40 seconds:B

RE: This is very strange.

Read the labels, see what is different in the formulas? This doesn't mean that it's the food...it could very well be as Fred suggested, that they are just suffering from "cabin fever".....and if they are fairly young, they may be "feeling their oats too!" (sorry, grain free :B) If they are aggressive towards people, or each other, then you may want to have them checked out by the Vet?

RE: $100 Tow Bar Installation

Nice job..... Personally, I worry about welding.....at least by myself, but I guess it probably wouldn't cost to much to have it done professionally. I'd probably want to figure a way to bolt the plates in addition to welding.....but that's me:)

RE: Use of Vented Tailgates

Haven't used one, but from what I've heard, there may be a little advantage, but probably not worth the cost of it. You could take off the tailgate, install one of those nets across, and you would reduce weight too! Probably as effective and less expensive.

RE: Posting pictures from Flickr

Technically, yes, though you won't have control over how big it shows up. If you view all sizes then you can choose the medium 640 which is a good size for posting in the forums. Actually, when you use the photo posting button, it asks for the height and width of the image. I usually just put 400-500 on the width (it will automatically adjust the height proportionally). So, you do have some control over the sizes....and of course, if the photo is tall, then you might want to reduce the width size, so it's not to large. I do agree, that size that you posted is perfect. I really hate when I see those posts that I have to adjust the screen to be able to look at the entire photo in one viewing. :(

RE: Couponing

I happened to catch one of those Coupon Shows....where they buy about $8,000 worth of groceries, and pay about $8.54 with about a million coupons. I'm lucky if I can save $15 with some coupons....but even that is something to shoot for, and every penny saved, is a penny we can use for camping..:B

RE: Posting pictures from Flickr

Can't you just right-click on the picture and then click on "View Image Info", and copy the address......then post it in the usual way.....same as Photobucket, or any other photo program? http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3406/5802892790_0594892814_z.jpg width=300 I just clicked on your photo, did the "image info" and re-posted, though a bit smaller. By the way....very nice looking rig! :)

RE: CW Shipping = RIDICULOUS....customer service is even worse.

It may only cost you $6 at the Post Office, but remember that they have to pay someone to package up the product. Though it's still ridiculous when you get something that is so light weight or small in size, and have to pay more for the shipping than the product itself.

RE: Should c-pap settings be reevaluated occasionally?

Sorry, I don't have the answer, but do know that DW's CPap had some sort of memory card that we were supposed to send in on occasions, to see how things are going. We keep forgetting to do that, but so far, she's been doing OK with it.

RE: Needing new Battery for TH ??

Like most things in life, not everything is the same....so it is quite possible that your battery just isn't all that good. You could take two identical batteries, and put them side by side, with same loads and charging, and one would last longer than the other....it's just the way things are. I bought a new battery at Walmart, and it didn't last me a year. Thankfully, they have a great return policy, and replaced it....second battery has been in RV for 3 years now, without problem. You are doing all the right things, with regard to charging and disconnecting when not in use....and I agree with Tuna, that running it down too low, is not a good thing. I don't believe you mentioned what size or type battery you have, and if it's a general starting battery, and not a deep cycle battery, you probably shouldn't expect more than what you are getting. I would invest in two batteries....preferably 2 6-Volt batteries that you wire in Series, for the 12VDC. They will hold a charge longer than two 12V batteries in Parallel......though you may be paying more for them, and space may be an issue in your RV? Good luck:)

RE: Superbowl Favorites

NY GIANTS!!! Oh, I guess we didn't want this to be political :) I'm really just a Doritos with Salsa guy....with a nice cold beer of course! Pizza bites (the home-made ones on English Muffins are always delicious, but we're rather graze than cook, so "Bagel Bites" are good enough!! And of course Wings....I get the Buffalo Nuggets from Sams....with 3 minutes in the microwave.... Go GIANTS!! :B

RE: Best time of year to visit inland SC?

Best time would be in the fall or Spring.....Fall will have the foliage change, with a wealth of beautiful colors....and should be fairly cool temperature wise. While Spring will have the vibrant colors of new flowers and the tree blossoms. Problem with Spring, would probably be the higher chance of rain, which could ruin a camping trip. With the dates you have planned, I'd go for the later date in the fall, as it will be much cooler, and depending on how the weather is, you might even need a sweatshirt of light jacket....which is nice for a walk.
