RE: Need professional advise

Posters: Thank you for all your comments and advise. It looks like the deal is done and I'm a proud owner of a 2011 Dodge 2500 Crew Cab 4x4 Laramie, with a 6.7L Cummins. Pics to follow.
Now I just need to go to the doctors office for these heart palpitations...lmao

RE: Need professional advise

I really want the 3.73 mainly because the additional towing capacity will not be an issue. Here is eastern Canada there seems to be a glut of Dodge 2500 with the Outdoorsman package, and they all come standard with the 4.10. I am currently entertaining purchasing a Dodge 2500 Laramie with the 3.73, but the bottom line keeps giving me heart palpitation. ;-)

RE: Need professional advise

One other quick question. If I go with a 4.10 rear end over a 3.73 will this affect my fuel economy? if so how much?

RE: Need professional advise

So on Saturday we test drove a 2500 Dodge Laramie 4x4. Very nice and we could definetly see ourselves rolling down the highway in a diesel. We haggled over the numbers but he was firm on giving us less than wholesale for our trade-in so we left. I'll go to my local dealer and see if he can find something suitable and if we can, we might be driving a new truck before the end of August.
Thanks everyone for all your help, advise and thoughts.

RE: Need professional advise

I'll try to answer some of the posts without getting to long in the letters. Will I be upgrading my trailer - Yes, but it will not be a 5er (I am one of "those" people that can park my TT on a dime, but couldn't park a 5er in a Walmart parking lot.... yes been there done that.
Yahooligan - I tried to read the Diesel vs Gas post - IMHO it should be deleted!
Yahooligan - Thanks for the second post, this was the type of info I was looking for. Based on this unless I was planning on going to a bigger TT and needed the tow capacity, upgrading to a Diesel is a long term ROI.

Need professional advise

So I currently have an '08 Dodge Ram with 52000 Klm. This is my day to day to work vehicle and our tow vehicle. All other travel is done in my wife's car. (hense the somewhat low mileage on my truck). We currently have an '08 25F Jayco Jay Feather weighing in about #6000.
I had a thought of purchasing a 2011 2500 Dodge with a 6.7L Cummins. I felt this would be a good vehicle to start our retirement in. I would also like to make sure my TV is paid for before I retire. (retirement <4 yrs and counting)
At the moment I do not have enough knowledge to determine if this is the right move or not.
I do not believe that towing capacity will be an issue with either TV. What I am looking at is fuel economy both towing and day to day and maintenance costs. Will the diesel provide better fuel economy than a gas engine? Will the maintenance be more than, equal to or less than a gas engine? Are there other pros and cons of owning one over the other?
I think that if I can't justify the additional expense of the diesel over gas then I would stick with a 1500 gas TV.
(Additional info) My expectation for the first 5 years of our retirement is to do 3 months of travelling the southern USA during the winter (Jan - Mar) and then spend 3 months travelling Canada (June - August). So I am not sure if mileage will become a factor or not, I can see that our Canadian travel probably would not exceed more than 10,000Klm per year but the US is totally unknown. (it could be 5000 klm or 25,000klm )
Thank you all for your help and advise.
God Bless
