Side-Mounted Grill

I have a 1999 Roadtrek 190 Popular. While perusing the latest Camping World catalog I noticed the following item: Side-Mounted Grill I was wondering if anyone has utilized this product on a van? I realize the mounting rails might look a little unsightly while driving down the road (maybe paint them Dodge white to match the rig?), but it sure looks like a handy way to have an outside grill for the B. Being able to use the van's propane supply would be a huge bonus as well. I'd like to hear your thoughts! Pat in Menifee, CA www.patcarnathan.com

RE: Inccreasing gray water capacity

Back when I had a fifth-wheel toyhauler I replaced the stock 40-gallon grey tank with a 97-gallon tank from Plastic Mart. I measured the available space under the rig and the folks at Plastic Mart were able to find a tank that used up just about all of the available space. The tank was around $300 and I paid a local RV shop to install it. No, I don't own or work for Plastic Mart - I'm just a satisfied customer. RE: Need special parts to replace the Roadtrek radio

Another vote for Crutchfield. They can put together all the items you need at reasonable prices. Best Buy is a waste of time in my experience. Pat in Menifee, CA www.patcarnathan.com

RE: New Allegro Breeze deal does not seem that great....

I think a good rule of thumb is always try to sell your used vehicle on your own. If the dealer buys your used vehicle (trade-in) he has to buy it from you cheaply enough that he can sell it at a profit. Essentially, you're taking a hit on the sales price of the used vehicle in order to allow him to make a profit. I know selling a used is a pain in the neck, but it seems to me we're talking about some pretty big dollars here. Just my opinion - It's worth exactly what you paid for it! Good luck. RE: Smaller than SQ1? Stab! Stab! Stab!

As a finish carpenter I'm a firm believer in the value of square-drive screws. They won't cam out like a phillips - You can put a lot more torque on a square drive screw. They're the bomb. Conversely, there should be a law against slotted screws! Pat in Menifee, CA www.patcarnathan.com

RE: TV Bracket

For what it's worth, the articulating television bracket that I bought is stiff enough that no extra knobs or screws must be tightened in order to keep it stationary during travel. Pat in Menifee, CA www.patcarnathan.com

RE: TV Bracket

I've purchased several brackets from Mounts and More and I've been very satisfied. We use one in the Roadtrek, and yes, it does pivot all the way to be visible from either the bed or the front seats. Pat in Menifee, CA www.patcarnathan.com

RE: Cloudy Headlights

One of the magazines to which I subscribe just did a review of the various products for polishing headlights and the writer wasn't very impressed. I found an online source for new headlights. I had a pair for my '99 Dodge Roadtrek shipped to my doorstep for $215.90. Pat in Menifee, CA www.patcarnathan.com

RE: Pleasure-way body work in metro San Diego?

Another vote for RV Specialists. When I had my 33' Extreme 2003 Toy Hauler they did any work I requested, and they've done work on my 1999 Roadtrek as well. They're good, honest guys and I trust them. When I need work done I still drive down to San Diego from Menifee, a one-way trip of about 75 miles. Pat in Menifee, CA www.patcarnathan.com

RE: Alternative Generator ideas for Roadtrek

We've been running the Onan 2800 under the back of our 1999 Roadtrek 190P for eleven years. It had a problem (caused by me) when I left it alone for a couple of years. It would run, but not under a load. I replaced the carburetor and it's good to go. Nobody's fault but my own. Yes, the Hondas and Yamahas are certainly quieter. You have to weigh the pros and cons and decide if the convenience of the slightly louder Onan is better than the perceived hassle of carrying an extra fuel tank and securing your non-Onan generator. Frankly, we don't use the generator a great deal. We can dry-camp for several days on battery power, but I'm glad I have the Onan for charging up batteries or running the air conditioner when necessary. It all comes down to personal preference. Ask for opinions, weigh your options and go for it. Pat in Menifee, CA www.patcarnathan.com

RE: 1999 RT 170..how to change brake light ?

Yup, it's a pair of Torx screws on the inboard side of the lens accessible from the outside of the van. Once the two screws are removed the unit is levered out to replace bulbs. I went out and took a gander at our '99 Roadtrek 190P on the Dodge. Good luck! Pat in Menifee, CA www.patcarnathan.com

RE: which rv cover

After burning (literally) through several ADCO covers we bit the bullet and purchased a Covercraft cover. It lasted a great deal longer than the cheaper covers. Pat in Menifee, CA www.patcarnathan.com

RE: Directv (dish) in RV

As previously indicated, it's easy to install a dish on the roof of your RV and simply take a satellite box from the house when you go on the road. We live in Verizon country and they're trying very hard to get us to switch to FIOS TV. Every time they call or show up on the doorstep I ask them, "Does FIOS come with a two hundred mile extension cord?" We've been with DirecTV since the beginning - Even before they offered local channels. We like it and we're sticking with it. Pat in Menifee, CA www.patcarnathan.com

RE: realistic flat towing options for Class B Sprinter

The Honda CR-V has also been a very popular toad. We have a 2009 and it has specific instructions provided by the manufacturer regarding how to tow it with all four wheels on the ground. Pat in Menifee, CA www.patcarnathan.com

RE: 2002 Roadtrek 190 Popular - Fedders A/C unit problem

I bought a Sharp AF-S80RX 8000 BTU Window Air Conditioner at Amazon, but it's my understanding that specific unit is no longer available. Measure your existing Fedders unit. Any air conditioner that is that size or slightly smaller will fit and work just fine. I haven't looked at your profile, but if you're in southern California (Riverside County) I'd be happy to lend a hand if you're interested. Pat in Menifee, CA www.patcarnathan.com

RE: 2002 Roadtrek 190 Popular - Fedders A/C unit problem

When our Fedders unit failed I replaced it with another air conditioner I purchased at Amazon. The new unit has more BTUs, a nifty wireless remote and uses less energy. Because of the way the unit is installed in the upper rear of the Roadtrek I'm afraid an air conditioning service technician would have a difficult time working on it. RE: Class "B" not for me.

We went from a 33' Extreme toyhauler to the Roadtrek 190 Popular. It's a bit of culture shock, but we manage. We're saving our pennies for a big class A, but the little B is just fine for now. We camp with friends and we have a couple of lines we always use: "We'd rather be here in the small rig than at home". And my personal favorite: "If you're camping with someone in a small class B you'd better be in love!" Pat in Menifee, CA www.patcarnathan.com

RE: Need replacement air conditioner for Roadtrek

This topic came up a little over a year ago. There were instructions made available by another member - I have the .pdf file and I'll be happy to email it to anyone interested. I used these instructions to assist me in replacing the air conditioner in my '99 Roadtrek 190P. I bought the air conditioner from www.amazon.com. Replacing the unit is something a handyman with slightly above-average skills can do. In my case, the new unit was smaller so I had to build in some new pieces of solid oak to make up the extra space around the a/c. Pat in Menifee, CA www.patcarnathan.com

RE: Towing

We regularly tow a trailer with two Honda PWC on it, or another trailer with a pair of Honda ATVs. We're only talking a couple thousand pounds so we're well within the towing capacity of our '99 Roadtrek 190P. Pat in Menifee, CA www.patcarnathan.com
