RE: My solution to the problem

Disc brakes, duals on tandem wet axles and Toyo tires!!!! You have the right answer. Please keep doing what you are doing. The right way is what is missing in the trailer world.

RE: Anybody know of a toy hauler rental outfit?

Most Motorhome haulers have small garages. I would think a Uhaul and dolly would be way easier and and overall cheaper.

RE: Used trailer: what should I offer for this thing? (pics)

NADA for Webster City IA with the standard options have it at $16K list new, $7K low retail and $8,400 average retail. The best indicator for use is looking at the floor. Most ppl put a rug at the entrance so look elsewhere. The number 07 on the front may indicate it was a rental at one time and this business does rent. If it was indeed one of his rental unit and it's in great shape, offer $6K. He has already made money on it. The 07 on the front is most dealers mark the year as in "2007"

RE: Travel trailer toyhaulers

Is it a half/ton suburban? 4-5 bikes plus riders and gear will add up quick.

RE: lights flickering

That is what my converter started doing one trip before it died. Also make sure your battery connections are clean. My bet is that you will find a bad converter.

RE: Want advice on toy hauler set-up

But your family is way more protected and safe in a crew cab. I know others preach the motorhomes but I have seen first hand how most motorhomes hold up in a collision. I was in your shoes, I solved the problem by getting a diesel crew cab sort bed that gets 22 to 23 mpg and my wife can drive it anytime she wants. It pulls my 28 foot TH and gets 15.75 mpg when towing. Yes I had to buy an older ford with a 7.3 and I do pay a bit more to service my truck but longevity was the selling point of our diesel choice. The only thing I may have done different is go with the excursion but I like having the bed available for camping gear, extra quad, firewood, etc. I plan to keep the truck for a long time and know that I could upgrade to a 5th wheel TH in the future if the budget allows. The motorhome idea is something my wife and I talked about but it had one problem that we could not solve. You have to take your home with you if needed to go anywhere, we can unhook and run to town, atv parts store, hospital, etc. Good luck in your search.

RE: Stay hooked or unhook?

I too stay hooked if level and only one night. I do put the tongue jack down to minimize the bounce I get off the rear springs of the truck. My 02 superduty does not supply 12 volts to the trailer unless key on so I do not unplug.

RE: Cuisinart Griddler Compact

I use ours for everything and love it. grilled chicken, bacon and eggs, fish, pancakes, and ham-n-chesse sandwiches. etc. etc. etc. I set ours up out side under our awning and cook away on it. Easy to clean too.

RE: Converter or battery?

Call Randy at bestconverter.com and order a new one. I had the same problems that you had. I found Randy very helpful and he knows what you need and backs his products.

RE: Anyone want to guess what these wires are for???

Did you try pulling on it a bit? My guess is a scrap piece. I am amazed at how much garbage the builders leave in places you don't look.

RE: I have a ford explorer want to buy S-280QBS

You can buy it but I would not tow it with an explorer. That is too much trailer for that TV

RE: Emptying a black tank using a portable tote tank??

45 gallons is a lot to accumulate in 9 days, unless staying for much longer than a few more days I would just make one trip with the tote and continue camping.

RE: dealers and warranty

I bought my Salem 3 mos. ago. I've had it in for warranty work and honestly it has been a fight. they nit pick every issue and want to deny the claims. This was with one service manager. I was very angry because they sold me an extended warranty on the basis that their service guys ("know how to get things covered") I finally escalated it to the dealership GM who took my side. he even said that every one of my issues were defects and it seems that the particular writer found it easier to tell off the customer than call Forest river to claim it. so, anyone else have this kind of experience? it just gets me that they are all warm and fuzzy about "taking care of you" during the sales process then fight you once you've bought. In about 14 days i will be lemon lawing one from them. I was getting the fighting also. Mines less then 3 months old. Are you sure about that? I thought Wa. lemon law excluded RV's. Ya, pretty sure. Here is our rv lemon law. "4 unsuccessful repairs or 30 calendar days out of service (15 during warranty period) or 2 repairs of serious safety defects, first reported within shorter of warranty term or 24 months or 24,000 miles. One repair attempt and 15 of the 30 days must fall within greater of manufacturer's warranty term or at least 1 year of 12,000 miles. " Your first problem is that the Washington state lemon law only applies to motor vehicles, i.e. self propelled. A motorhome (chassis portion only) is covered, but I think you will find that no trailer is eligible. And if it was covered, your problems, which are related to the House portion rather than the running gear, are not.

Quad hunter is another good site to use. I too do not loan out my stuff, but I know that does not help you. Sorry for your loss
