RE: That happy/sad feeling when you trade units

I have shed a few tears at every trade! My DH rolls his eyes and pats my back, murmuring "It's okay." Then the first trip out in the new one, I am good to go! I have my favorites but with each trade we got something better. Happy Memories have been made in each one. Okie

RE: What do you use your outdoor shower for?

I use ours to wash my hair. I also use a solar shower bag for hair washing but sometimes the sun isn't warm enough yet to heat the water....so I use the outdoor shower.

RE: toll roads

Picture taking of your license plate to mail you a bill for a higher toll? I think it goes too far, puts toll takers out of a job and even further decreasing our human contact. We have often had questions regarding the road ahead and the toll takers are very nice, informative and helpful. Sigh, Okie

RE: First Real long trip

When I was young, my folks would always leave in the very early hours of the morning. My sister and I would sleep in the back seat while Mom and Daddy traded off the driving hours. Seemed like there was never enough time to get where we were going. For us little ones, it was alot easier, I am sure. But we traveled by car to relative's home. I think having an RV then would have been a luxury that my Air Force Sargaent Dad wouldn't have been able to afford. Then again, those trips were some of my favorite family memories. It depends on if you can handle early (or late) and long hours without getting sleepy. And if you can trade off driving duties. I know your trip will be loaded with wonderful memories. Keep us posted! Happy Trails! Okie

RE: Dump stations while on the road?

Here is a website that lists the dump stations. There is a state by state listing too near the bottom of the page. Sorry I don't know how to do a clicky... http://www.sanidumps.com/sanidumps_usamerica.php

RE: Manly Man Christmas Gift Ideas, Please!

I got my DH a back up camera and moniter for our 5er. I am thinking he will mount it on the back of the 5er so we can keep an eye on the boat or 4wheeler trailer when we double tow. At least, that was what I thought about when I bought it and I got it for a good price at Menards... but, sssshhhhh, it's a secret! :D Okie

RE: Back Up Camera?

Thank you all for the great advice! My plan is for him to mount it where he can watch the boat or 4wheeler trailer as we go down the road. Also it may help in knowing when we can change lanes. Nothing is as good as being able to actually eyeball something, but we'll be using this as extra help. Thanks again and if anyone has more to add to this, please do. Happy Trails, Okie

RE: Attaching Things to CG Trees - What gives?

As bad as cutting branches off of trees. If it isn't a tree in your own yard, don't cut it off......... It all hurts the tree.

RE: Intolerance

I totally agree. Thank you for putting it into words that I could not find. You were right on target. Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving and remembered to thank our Military Men & Women for their service! Happy Trails, Okie

RE: Back Up Camera?

I would like to get a backup camera for my DH for Christmas. We sometimes double tow, 5th wheel with boat behind it... To help in backing to hitch up the boat or keep an eye out for a flat tire on the boat trailer, I thought this would be a good idea. I found one at Sam's Club for about $91.00 that looks good. My questions are: Do you have one? Do you use it? Is it worth it? Thank you for your help and opinions. Okie yup, yup and yup. our B/U camera is always on when we're on the move. i keep an eye on the toad and traffic lingering in adjacent lanes. as for the price...can't say if that's good or bad but some things to think about: - color or b&w camera? ours is b&w - integrated microphone? ours has one and is handy when getting directions on backing into a site - adjustable brightness and contrast controls? a definite must. - includes the monitor? does the monitor have two camera inputs or just one? ours has two but we've never installed a second camera. good luck to you. Thank you for your answer. These are good points and I will use them in my search. Here is the one I was looking at: http://www.samsclub.com/sams/shop/product.jsp?productId=prod2500044#top (Hope that works) Also read and considering what powderman426 said in reply. I know to turn to everyone here on RVNet for good answers and opinions. Thank you!

RE: Back Up Camera?

The one you are looking at has a 3.5" screen which I feel is inadequate. The same company (Peak) made a 7" model which I used till I forgot to lock the truck one night. It was wonderful but sadly when I went to replace it I found the only place to get them now is on Ebay and the price is about 3 times what I paid. I bought the 3.5" and you will be seeing it soon on ebay as like I said it is useless (too small to see at a glance which is what you need when driving). I wired the power into the running lights an because I always run with lights on, the camera was also on. The model # for the 7" model is PKCORC. hope this helps. Thank you for this answer, I will see if I can find a 7" inch one. Cost may prohibit more but I am willing to try. My DH is not one for "new things" but once he is used to it, he will say he likes it. I am hoping this is the end result here.

RE: Back Up Camera?

Wont he see this thread and find out about his Christmas gift? He won't see this, he is never on the computer at home and the one at work is strictly for work. I don't think he even knows how to find this site....Thank goodness :)

RE: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

Dish Drying Mats. They fold and store in a drawer. Take 'em out and put on the counter top to place freshly washed dishes on for drying. They are washable. Take up a whole lot less room than the traditional plastic dish drainers. I think this was suggested awhile back, or at least I heard it somewhere awhile back. At the beginning of the season we bought a small one that fits perfect on top of the range cover when it is down and rolls up and stores behind the range cover when it is up. We were able to free up the storage place where the old plastic drain board use to be stored for other things. Worked great for over 7 weeks of camping 7000 miles this summer. Jim... Unfortunately, our Cougar's right side sink is very narrow! Hardly anything fits it. I can't imagine where the idea for that came from. You can rinse glasses and silverware and that is about it! If/when the time comes, I will be replacing it with another double sink - but with equal size sides. So- I use a dishpan on the counter top to rinse dishes, a drainer on the counter extention with a drying mat under the drainer. I totally agree that these mats are wonderful products! Happy Camping, Okie

RE: It is official

Winterized a few weeks ago. Thankfully we can park at the house, so I can go out every once in a while and "piddle around". I still have some house cleaning to do and a couple of winter projects... But - heavy sigh - no trips until May....... Everyone out there that can still be camping - raise a glass for us and toast: "Here's To Spring". Happy Trails, Okie

Memorial Day 2010, Glendo Reservior http://i518.photobucket.com/albums/u350/WyomingOkie/Memorial%20Day%202010/100_2070.jpg?t=1276540128 http://i518.photobucket.com/albums/u350/WyomingOkie/Memorial%20Day%202010/100_2073.jpg?t=1276540128 http://i518.photobucket.com/albums/u350/WyomingOkie/Memorial%20Day%202010/100_2076.jpg?t=1276540128 Alas, we learned this past Memorial Day that we can no longer camp here (our favorite place)! They are now making you park where there is a fire ring and state provided picnic table - ONE camper per site. We can no longer circle the wagons with our camping buddies away from others. They also tried to tell us that we had too many in camp since I drove the SUV pulling our boat. Said that was 2 not 1. But in talking with the Park Police, they said we could keep both vehicles in camp. This was our favorite lake to spend time fishing and with friends but it is a nightmare now to find a campsite. Sigh, Okie

RE: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

Spring loaded, expanding curtain rods work just as good (I find they work better) as the expanding refrigerator bars made for the RV. We use them in many of the cabinets to hold things from moving. They are cheaper and available at home stores, etc. Ditto!

RE: Gettin' to be time to winterize

We winterized 2 weeks ago....with a heavy sigh. Camping Season was just too short this year. Come on May 2012!
