RE: Air Bag Lift

Thanks for the replys. I was hoping for at least 3" of clearance improvement, but 4" would be better. Having an onboard compressor will be handy now and then beyond the few times I expect to need to use air lift capability.
pnichols - I know a few of the big DPs out there have air leveling. I talked to the owner of one of those rigs and he complained about the air compressor cycling to maintain level. On the other hand, I seem to recall seeing a company offering air bags with a side to side valve op on the rear for C's. Something to think about.

Air Bag Lift

I imagine most boondockers know about waterbars... those "speed bumps" they put on forest roads to drain water from one side of the road to the other that are usually about 6" high. It's often tough not to be a taildragger going over some of them. On the same note, parking lots entrances present the same problem now and then. No matter what angle I take in some circumstances, it seems there is just no way to avoid dragging the tail of the RV.
My class C is 25' bumper to bumper on a E450 Super Duty chassis. I am way below GVWR when fully loaded including full water, so I'm not looking for air bags to level my load or soften the ride, but rather to have the ability to improve the departure angle by raising the back of the RV to perhaps near maximum suspension droop... knowing that it is for momentary use and not sustained operation.
Looking for suggestions

RE: Ground Fault Keeps Tripping

My RV charged just fine in my garage on a GFI outlet until I replaced the converter with an inverter/charger. As soon as I plugged into my house power, the outlet tripped.
My RV has a Prosine 2.0 inverter/charger, and it has an option to defeat the internal automatic neutral bond which caused the GFI outlet used to feed the RV to trip. I set the option to defeat the automatic bond and no more external GFI tripping.

RE: Programming Prosine 2.0

Just want to say thanks for the replys. FYI - These are a pair of US Battery's
"latest design" 12v deep cycle flooded batteries.
I'm about to add a pair of solar panels to the RV for our trips as we boondock almost exclusively, and the Prosine is for the limited AC power use we anticipate. Of course the programmable 3 stage charger was a big factor other than the steal of a deal I found.

RE: What is your favorite pass in Colorado?

Speaking of Colorado mountain road songs... Black Bear Pass
I don't really have a favorite, but Williams is only open now and then to off highway vehicles depending on conditions in the high country. Jones Pass is really nice on top and not heavily visited and can be driven to in a car. In and out only, not a through road anymore.
Scariest? Though not really considered a pass, Red Cone probably gets my attention as much as anything... if you mess up, it's a LONG way to the bottom.

Scratch this post... What I found out is that I had some special character somewhere in my response that hung the addition. I'm good now.

RE: Programming Prosine 2.0

Actually the book has caused me write this post...
The Prosine manual calls for bulk current charging options for transfer to absorbtion mode... max current, max voltage, threshold voltage, and threshold time. The battery manufacturer calls for a specific current rate of charge with a max voltage before going into to absorbtion mode.
How do I determine what threshold voltage provides the specific current?

Trouble Posting

I've never had a problem before, but I put a post in the wrong topic earlier today and a moderator moved it. Now, I can't edit it, comment on it, or even add a new post to the whole section.
I'm able to post in this topic, but not the tech issues section. What do I do?

I guess I have a brain cloud because it isn't making sense to me... can you help me figure out the current ratings I should input into the Prosine 2.0?

RE: MVUM can be deceiving

Yep, and even when the map shows dispersed camping allowed, the ground may say something different. We ran into such a case in the Pawnee National Grassland near Pawnee Buttes. The map clearly shows dispersed camping in the area of the parking lot for the hiking trail to the buttes, but on the ground it says "no camping".

RE: Solar/inverter ?

If you are serious about wanting your system to work at it's best and are installing it yourself, I'd suggest you spend the better part of a day or so reading and digesting this web sites information... Handy Bob's Solar Blog
You need to read the the section called "The RV Battery Charging Puzzle". This is not an easy read as there are few pictures or sub headings to break up the text. You won't be able to "scan read" this information.
The author is not selling anything, so you don't have to worry about product bias beyond his own experience. There is so much information, if you are like me, you will end up spending hours on the site trying to make total sense of all the info presented.... I think it's worth it.
Frankly, after reading hundreds of forum posts about solar systems, I wonder how many folks REALLY know what is going on with their systems.

RE: Toadless C Owners, Do You Feel Limited?

We go toaded and toadless. When without toad, I do try and plan my trips more as my MPG isn't good in city traffic so efficient travel helps, but never do we feel restricted in any way. In fact, just not having the toad along eliminates several "chores". We also rent a car (some outfit will pick you up) infrequently.

RE: InvisiBrake For Dinghy

I installed the Invisibrake in our 97' Jeep Wrangler and couldn't be happier.
After years of towing the Jeep with a fixed "A" frame type tow bar, I switched to a telescoping model Blue Ox. Easy to hook up by myself now, easier to unhook, and with the Invisibrake, you will find that places you might not have visited because you need to unhook the toad become accessible.
You need to keep your tow bar as level as possible. Depending on the manufacturer, most if not all recommend no more than a 4" difference between the receiver height and base plate height.
With the Invisibrake, if you travel with your parking or head lights on, you will be charging your towed vehicle battery as you drive. Our Jeep is highly modified, so I need to raise the receiver for the tow bar 10". I accomplished this by using a 10" up/down hitch adaptor.

RE: Ham radio in my Roadtrek - rig and installation suggestions

I'd suggest you visit KØBG.com for mobile installation information. Allen has built the most comprehensive mobile amateur radio site there is I'm sure.
Though I don't op UHF and VHF, I have a HF rig and screwdriver antenna mounted on a motorized telescoping pole to lift the antenna from the rear bumper to 11' with the touch of a button.
Another site that may have some information you'ld find useful is RVing & Ham Radio Forum

RE: Stuck

Yup... it's pretty lonely on US 50 through Nevada. Excellent road but be aware that there is plenty of up and down as you cross several mountain ranges between desert valleys. We got buzzed by some high performance aircraft while on that road. He was heading west, I was heading east, we met at the top of one of those mountain passes and it scared the you know what out of me!
We broke down on the Alaska highway in our DP. Got lucky with a repair. Ran out of gas one mile west of Colorado/Utah state line on I70 when the old Jeep Wranglers has a fuel sending unit problem that showed I had a 1/2 tank of gas when in fact... I was out. To make matters worse, it was our anniversary.
I have never lived that down and that was 15 years ago... everytime the gas gauge shows 1/2 tank, I BETTER be lookin' for a gas station.
