RE: Whitehorse to Dawson City

Did the TOW last end of May with MH&toad. Once is enough had mostly dust can you say "DUST" would not do it again. Would go from White horse to Dawson city good paved road with MH then back track to Whitehorse or from Tok to Dawson city with the toad but never the MH again. Toad from Tok to Dawson city would be my call. Would not miss the TOW though. JMT

RE: Rules for Dry Camping - revisited

Guess I've got my panties in a knot toooooooooo. If invited we camp with other folks right next too each other. At times when in the desert or lake or forest we like to be a reasonable distance from others. The point which I see(must be non readers or very slow people) is your all alone, camp sites for boondocking for miles around and someone pulls in right next to you, WHY? WHY? WHY?.

RE: Conditioning Diesel Fuel

Just fill the tank so there is less room for condensation and your go to go, I leave mine for 3-4 months at a time and I know you can go many times that.

RE: cooking on the road in Alaska....

I was at the CG with Veebyes, the host was over the top, we just pulled the steaks off the grill(with the grill out side and under the window we were eating at) and had not taken a bite yet and a knock at the door just about to take the door off, Host stating we were not watching the grill, hell it was too hot to put away and no more than 3 feet from where I was eating. Also people got a ticket for leaving bug spray unatended, hell don't bears need bug spray too.

RE: Top of the World Highway

We did it this year in late May. We did have great weather but the dust got everywhere. Took us better part of three days camping two nights at camp grounds on the way. No need to hurry and lots to see.

RE: B.C. Walmart rip-off

The exchange rate in Canada. How about the exchange rate in Alaska LOL!!! Although the camp grounds for the most part were the same or better rate than the lower 48. Lets call the FBI or CIA and investigate this gouging, OH wait this is another country they rule, darn again!!! LOL We find over the long term things balance except in small out of the way places where they can be cheaper or higher depending on transportation costs.

RE: Bears at Fish Creek (Stewart/Hyder) Yet?

Were none three days ago. But the bear man at the Salmon glacier said he saw one headed down the creek across the glacier(if you have not done the two glaciers do so and take a lunch). They are see a couple bears around but no fish yet. Seems they are late like the spring.

RE: looking for others doing alaska in 2011

At Stewart BC and seeing the Glaciers past Hyder AK, boy some great views. The bears are not in yet but should be here in the next few days. The drive an xtra 38 miles from 37 on 37A is well worth the effort Bear glacier on the way. Leaving tomorrow back to 37 and south.

RE: For heaven sake slow down!

I was just across the TOW 3-4 weeks ago and it was great, but it has no relevance today as the rains have come wash outs and mud. Same with I did it several years, the roasd is different as we speak. I am talking to those who have just come across and the mud is bad and MH's in the ditch. Now you take this all with a grain of salt and the present weather factor in your rig and driving ability and make your choice. I am hearing from those just up on the Alcan and they say it rough real rough. I'll tell you in a 5-7 days or so as I'll be headed that way. JMO

RE: All is quiet on the Alaska Highway

Watch the road between Anchorage and Glennallen, unmarked ruff areas that can bite. TOW road was much better 3 weeks ago, dust or mud depending. Fuel in Tok and then in Whitehorse if you can make it all the way, if not minimum at Dawson City.

RE: Arctic Circle for midnight on 21st Are you going ?

We are skipping this road. The reviews we read said 10-12 hours of bad road for a sign and would not do it again. So we will spend the solstice in Fairbanks. Lots of party things this weekend and through the 21st.
