RE: GM Dingy Caution

Honda has eliminated all their cars except for the CRV which is too small of a car for me. The Honda Fit is towable four down.

RE: Extended warranties.

Make sure you get all the service records since your motorhome was delivered to the first owner. If the engine or transmission blows or you have a major failure the ESP company will want proof all service has been done according to time and mileage. If you don't have those records they will not pay. I have talked to many people who were denied claims because they didn't have those records.

RE: extended warranty

My friend who was a RV salesman and later a RV sales manager told me they made a 50% commission on extended service plans unless the buyer talked them into giving a discount Then the extended service company pays overhead, claim adjusters, taxes, and finally takes a profit. So there is not much money left to pay claims. In my many years of buying cars and RVs I have never considered buying an extended service plan and I am way ahead.

RE: 08 Honda CRV battery dies????

Many of the batteries in 2007 and 2008 Honda cars were defective and would not hold a full charge. Through last year Honda was replacing them free. Last year when I was at a Honda dealer for service the manager told me they were load testing every Honda that came in for service. While I was there they replace two batteries for owners that didn't know they had failing batteries.

RE: Potential 1st DP - 2003 Winnebago Journey 34H

My sister and husband have a 2003 Journey 34H with the Cummins 300 hp ISB and an Allison 5-speed transmission. I have traveled cross country with them and over the Rocky Mountains a few times. They have never had any problems with power and get between 9.5 and 10.5 mpg. They love their Journey and are happy they bought it. Their biggest problems have been the hood and engine covers falling off. Winnebago glued them on and and both Winnebago and a dealer tried to re-glue them. We finally secured them with screws and no more problems. They have also had problems with leaking windshields and many Winnebagos have that problem.

RE: Fleetwood Excursion engine access

I had an alternator go out and I needed to do three days of traveling for an emergency. I ran the generator while driving and that kept the batteries charged.

RE: Blue Ox e-mail response time

I have emailed Blue Ox two times and got immediate replies both times.

RE: Tail Light Wiring Kit

Just looking for comments on the Roadmaster "Tail Light Wiring Kit with Bulbs." It's one of those kits that allows you to add bulbs within the tail light cavity so you never touch the factory wiring. I bought a new toad and I was thinking of using this instead of hacking into that shiny new wiring. Any issues with this kit? No problem with the kit. I used diodes in my last toad and the lights were always dim as the diodes drop the voltage. I installed the lighting kit with separate lights and am very happy with it.

RE: Most worry free flat towing car to buy

I've towed a 1999 and a 2007 Honda CR-V over 115,000 miles and never had a tire wear problem. Never had to return a CR-V to the shop for repairs. They just keep running and running and get good fuel mileage.

RE: IFS and being towed

Its a good thing the tow company didn't tow it because the guy was ignorant. Many motorhomes with IFS get towed including mine.

RE: Leaving the power cord coiled up

As an engineer and working 36 years installing all kinds of electrical machines (up to 440 volts), I learned if a power cord is of the proper size it will not heat up. If you have an over heated power cord throw the darn thing away and install the proper size.

RE: Hung accelerator on toad in rv park

Apparently she had the transmission in Drive when she connected the braking system and she connected to the gas pedal instead of the brake. Should have been in Park or Neutral. Bet she won't make that mistake again.

RE: Tow vehicle keys

I lock the doors when towing and remove the key any time we stop and leave the car such as shopping. My Brake Buddy has an indicator light inside the motorhome to alert me when the brakes are applied. As was mentioned above, make a check list and have someone watch the tow bar and toad's wheels as you pull forward.

RE: Extreme Makeover Home Edition

A few years ago I was in Louisville, KY during a build. I stayed at a campground owned by a friend and a donated motorhome was brought in for Ty to sleep in during the build. He said the Prevost is just for show and Ty sleeps in a donated RV. Three years ago a builder I know did a build in Mobile, AL and then I had that builder build me a house near Gulf Shores, AL. I talked to the construction crew (framers, brickers, drywallers, roofers, etc.) and everyone said it was a good experience and they would donate their time again. Last year my builder was chosen to do another build in Pensacola, FL and I was asked if I would volunteer. I really wanted to, but it didn't work in my schedule. As far as a poor family not being able to afford the house - that is taken care of. An escrow account is set up with a local bank and money from that account is used to pay annual insurance, taxes, utilities and repairs.

RE: convection micro

I have owned two motorhomes with microwave / convection ovens and both were vented through the roof. I have never noticed a heat buildup while cooking.

RE: Chevy Sonic 4 Wheels down Tow-able?

Hmmmmmm we want to buy a Cruze but not to tow it I wonder if we could get a good deal on a returned one???? You may be able to get a returned Cruze that has been towed a little and the transmission is only half burned up.

RE: Booster Switch Settings?

The booster switch should be a momentary switch. I.E., when you shove it to boost and let go it should return to the off postion.

RE: Buy Old Tow Bar

Be aware of buying an old tow bar because it may be worn out and unsafe. I used a Blue Ox tow bar 107,000 miles and had Blue Ox inspect it at a rally. The tech determined it was too worn to be rebuilt so I bought a new one. The tech took the old one and said he would destroy it so it could never tow again. I suppose I could have kept it and sold it on Craigs list for a bargain price. If you buy a used tow bar send it back to the manufacturer for an inspection and rebuild. Then you will know its safe.

RE: Parking A Diesel Class A For 3 Months In Florida

Just before you park for the winter add some diesel biocide and fill the tank with fuel. Run the generator as you drive to the campground to get biocide in the generator fuel line and filter. Then shut her down and enjoy your stay in Florida. Do not start the engine unless you plan to drive a few miles and get it to operating temperature.

RE: UPdate : Replacing Pac Brake Questions

Your dash switch being left on won't damage the exhaust brake. You mentioned you want to go to a foot switch for the exhaust brake. I had a foot switch on a motorhome and hated it so I replaced it with a dash toggle switch. Going down a long mountain I had to keep my foot squarely on the foot switch or the exhaust brake dropped out. Will never have a foot switch again.
