RE: Wife got a New Vehicle I got a New Ranger 800 XP LE

Well the wife got a new vehicle yesterday 2012 Kia serento loaded! was not to sure about a Kia but after comparing them to others in its class I'm glad she came home with it, its pretty damm nice car, Made in GA so I was happy about that, seem to get a good deal on it as well,
I got a new Polaris Ranger XP 800 LE got a few things with it in the deal, and I know i got a good deal on it, they got to add the items on sometime next week and then I'll pick it up, I'm keeping out KQ for now since I know I'll be using it
all in all it was a expensive weekend but well worth it,
by the way the Ranger will fit in out Fuzion 322 I have to make a couple of adjustments to give me a little more room front to back but it fits
is the ranger road ready or can it be made road legal?
brianj
Its not road ready and I thought you could make it street legal
you will have to put mirrors, blinkers on it plus get it registered
I'm going to leave it off road only

RE: Wife got a New Vehicle I got a New Ranger 800 XP LE

Congrats Bryan and Kristen,
Sorento's have been catching my eye on the road for a month or 2, really nice looking vehicle. I'm going to go check out the Fuzion later, can't wait to see the flair's.
Bryan did you pickup the RZR at Santa Rosa V twin? What color (I guess I should say for now)? I'll give you a call.
Mark the fuzion is right behind yours, and the fenders are on the trailer, I need to do some tough ups on the siding (black) and I need a molding rubber on the slide side, I'll get that next week,
the Ranger XP is from Santa Rosa Veetwin,Santa Rosa Vee-twin I've been doing paint jobs for them since Don bought the place back in 91, He is a great guy and so is his son Preston, They will really give you the best deal around, by far. They had an open house Sat so we spend the day there supporting them and showing off some of our paint jobs on the Victory's
I still have to work out some details on the Ranger so Its still there but its a done deal

RE: Wife got a New Vehicle I got a New Ranger 800 XP LE

we have 176 miles on it, I drove it today and I got to say its pretty nice,
I was vary vary nervous when the wife called and said she signed the paper work yesterday, I said hold up a min you were just looking at them,we got it at paid invoice, plus incentives, minus hold back, far below msrp. I told her to take it, We have looked at all kinds of cross overs in the last 2 months and for the most part they were out of our bugget, poor milage, or the dealer would not deal on them,
we got the EX V6 with the premium package2 along with the tow hitch, roof racks
in the package we got it came with leather (black) 7 passager 3rd row seating, panorama sun roof which is pretty cool its 3/4 the lengh of the roof, we did not go for the AWD as we just do not need it, infinity surround sound system she is happy!!
and yes I couldn't tow the fuzion, now that would be sight to see,

RE: Finally finished my carbon fiber fenders for our Toy Hauler

Did you build a mold and vacuum bag them?
I do alot of custom parts for boats, race cars etc, but had not thought about making fenderflares like that.
My other question is, Is the Krystal resin UV protected? I use epoxies that are uv stable and others that are not. Depending on the use and location carbon is a little expensive when the tires blow.
Yes to the mold and vacuum
yes to the UV
if I blew a tire out it would probley take out more then just the fender
but yes its a bit more then a stock one
I have made serveral sets so far so If one goes I have another set ready

RE: Do Not get caught!

I just found out a friend of mine....
These stories are never about the person experiencing the issue. It is always a "friend of mine..."
agreed. Post a pic of the ticket.
I used to play a lawyer in a former life -- the stop is unlawful if the officer stated he pulled you over for violation of a statute that doesn't exist.
Of course, I'm not an attorney, I don't practice in Calicrazyfornia, and I'm certainly not YOUR lawyer. :W
Thank God your not my Attorney
you cant even spell California correctly ;)
Post a picture of why you are a attorney now...
In your opinion the stop was unlawful but my guess if you were stop since you were a attorney you would argue with the cop, creating more of an issue, Look he got a ticket for not having a cat, it is either on the exhaust system or not its pretty simple, If his truck did not come with one from the manufacture well he just has to prove it when he goes to court, if it didn't I guess he will be contacting a attorney that has a active BAR
If it was my ticket to take a picture of I would but its not, Just realating what I was told, further more I spoke to the local muffler shop yesterday and they also told me the CHP is cracking down pretty hard in our area on modified exhausts on cars and trucks along with a hole list of other things, serveral tickets have been issued they said, They said they are busy installing cats,

RE: Finally finished my carbon fiber fenders for our Toy Hauler

Looks nice!
Do you have a picture from any other angle than straight on the side when mounted? I'd like to see how they look from an angle looking down on them from behind or in front.
I'll get a few pictures up when I got some good sun and angles
they look pretty cool when the sun hits it but the camera does not do it justice, they look totally 3D and the camera just cant get that effect, I'll try again though
The driver side fender looks off in the picture but in person and measured it dead on

Finally finished my carbon fiber fenders for our Toy Hauler

I have never liked our fenders on our trailer, after months of looking at them I decided to make them out of carbon fiber, the original ones are stamped aluminum and just looked cheap, I also looked at the 2011 fenders and if I had a pair of them I would have make them out of carbon but I used what I had here, These are make out of 3K wieve 3 layers vacuum sealed with krystal resin, gel coated on the inside, this was my first attempt at it so I think they look pretty good, I'll try to get a better picture of the driver side when the sun is hitting it.I have another set to finish off for a fellow fuzion owner, he should be happy with his

RE: Do Not get caught!

I have both a 99 and a 2003 PSD F 250 in my shop right now and they both have cat's on them I can take some pix of them both CA models both from the bay area
both are automatic 4x4 trucks and I just sent one truck out 01 Dodge 2500 6 speed 4x4 extended cab that did not have a cat on it and it came from Montana
I double checked my 06 DMAX and my 05 DMAX both have cats on them and the 05 came from NV I'm getting the feeling that the manufactures have to put on certain amounts of cats to meet the epa stuff or the trucks that are being sold from the manufacture to the dealer have cats if the dealer is in a smog area
I believe Healdsburg is a smog exempt not 100% sure about that, I know Cloverdale is and Forestville is and they are in 2 differant county's

Here is what I found out on all 6.7 Fords that are sold in the US
they all require (oxidation catalysts) (DOC) and diesel particulate filters (DPF) unless the truck is sold to MX this is what comes standard on them

RE: Do Not get caught!

What about a motorcycle towing a trailer? That's not an auto.
This has been discussed on other forums. As I recall if a motorcycle is a vehicle under the California Revised Statutes it applies, if not it does not. However, the bigger issue is whether anybody is enforcing it.
As you have probably experienced, if you travel the speed of the 18 wheelers and they are over the 55 limit you probably will be just fine. Don't stick out in the crowd by going faster then that flow towing and especially don't hang for long in any lane other than the most right lane on a multi lane freeway.
I had an RV dealer tell me that for some reason Motor Homes are exempt from 55 if towing a toad. I don't beleive it but that is what was said. As I see it, towing is towing and triple axles (like on some tag axle motorhomes) are triple axles so it might be interesting if others comment on that.
As I understand the statutes the sign that says 'autos' can be interpreted 'vehicles' and you would probably be safe in that assumption.
Rule of thumb: If you're towing, the 55 mph limit applies to you and you're also restricted to the two right-hand lanes.
A couple weeks ago I saw a guy (alone) in a Prius towing a u-haul in the carpool lane. The Prius gives him the right to drive solo in the carpool lane, but towing the u-haul taketh away the right to drive in any lane other than the two far right-hand lanes. And he was completely overweight.
Prius owners! :R

RE: Do Not get caught!

I got to thinking about this last night and here is something else they are going after and it did happen to me about 3 years ago
I have a 100 gal fuel tank in the bed of my truck, I was outside of susanville CA and was pulled over by the DOT I did not have a trailer nor was I speeding but they wanted to check my tank to see if I was running red fuel, I was not but they are also looking for that 2 he told me its a big fine if you are caught
It is perfectly legal to have red dyed diesel(off road diesel) in any bed mounted fuel tank, but it must be labeled as such. It is normally used in tractors, generators, and construction equipment. It is just not legal to put it into your factory fuel tank and burn on the road. CHP does not stop for that. EPA/CARB will pull commercial trucks into roadside inspections to dip the tanks of truck tractors with tank probes covered with a gel that turns colors when they come in contact with red dyed fuel. The only difference between #2 Diesel and red dyed diesel is that there are no state, Federal, or road use taxes charged for that fuel. The blend is exactly the same with red dye added.
Yes you are correct its legal to have it in the bed of the truck but its not legal to run it in your truck if you are using the truck on the highways or byways in CA the sticked my big tank to see if I had red fuel, it was clear, then there was no reason to stick the lower tank,

RE: Do Not get caught!

What?????? There is no such thing.Mav
x2. Even if I had pipes (stacks) hanging out of my truck, it does not mean that I don't have a cat on my truck.
BK, wouldn't that meet requirements for probable cause or reasonable suspicion? That would suck though as my 2001 7.3 did not come stock with a cat.
Probable cause is exactly that (any reason) pretty much sums it up
We all think the LE is dumb but they are not they know there stuff for the most part we are the ones who are trying to get away with it
We all want more HP Torque, shiny stuff on our trucks and for the most part when we by a part we rarely look at the warning labels that state (This product is used for off road use only) or it will say ( this product is not DOT approved in some states refer to your local state laws)
We go out of state to buy a truck thinking we can get away from the CA tax but when you get caught with a truck or car in CA with a out of state plate and a CA license it also gives LE and open door to all kinds of things to look for
The truck above was bought in OR I was caught in CA with it with an OR plate in 2001 I had a place in OR and in CA but I had a CA license, well It cost a lot of money to get it corrected, because I only had 7200 miles on it
I had to weigh the truck, I had to go to court, for the ticket, I had a fine plus I had to pay the tax on the truck from the invoice, and I had to get a cat put on the truck because it is in CA even though I could prove I lived in OR at the time the reasoning behind it was that I spend at least 51% of my time in CA remember the word (time)it didnt matter that I lived in OR I spend at least 51% of my time in CA
I faught this thing for 2 years and spend good money and still lost
and I know other people that got away with it thats why I didnt in the first place, well it didnt work and it ended up costing me more to by an out of state truck then I could of here
I even went as far as to get a dual resident plate and it still didn't matter
