RE: 30 amp and 50 amp electric question

The campground 50 Ampere supply
is fed to you through TWO 50 AMPERE
circuit breakers. With the adapter
you CAN receive 50 AMPERES, except
your R V main breaker will trip at
about 30 Amperes. (Yes, a '50 AMPERE'
supply CAN supply 100 Amperes to an R V
with a 50 Ampere connection, if the load
is perfectly balanced between the two
50 Ampere breakers.....these two currents
'meet and cancel' at the neutral, so in
this nearly impossible case, the neutral
carries ZERO current)

RE: 30 amp and 50 amp electric question

In specific reply to your question
Buy an adapter to allow your 30 Ampere cord
to plug into a 50 Ampere receptacle. These
are available at WalMart or any R V store.
Your input breaker IN the RV will limit
the current to 30 Amperes. Your 30 Ampere
cord will be over protected by a 50 Ampere
breaker, but this is not a problem.

RE: RV parks near Jackson, MS

We like LeFleur state park. It is slightly
east of Jackson, and you could see downtown
except for the many trees. It's isolated,
on a lake, quiet. Check it on rvparkreviews.com.

RE: 50A "Extension" Cable

To get slightly scientific about your question
The 'voltage drop' is caused by two factors
Current draw
and
Cable resistance
The cable resistance is 'fixed'.......it's built into the
cable......LARGER cable, less resistance.........LONGER
cable, MORE resistance.....double the length, double the
resistance
The current draw is up to you.........
The voltage drop is calculated
Voltage Drop = Current (Amperes) x Resistance (Ohms)
Get a voltmeter (less than $10, WalMart or many other places).
One that plugs into a receptacle INSIDE the R V.
As you add load, see that the voltage does not fall below
about 108 Volts.....(the standard 120 Volts which is desired
minus 10% drop)........if it falls below about 108,
turn off some load.

RE: Round Kitchen Sinks

I worked for a major shipyard, which designed and built
a series of U S Navy ships. They were a great success
BUT........the hand sinks in the officer's quarters were
flat-bottomed. Since a ship is seldom level, the water
did not drain fully from the sink. Enough said?

RE: Gulf access CG, MS, AL, FL?

Condos have made ON the beach almost a thing of the past.
At Destin, a little east of your planned area, is one
private park on the beach....$$$$$$$$$$$$$. And, at or
near Destin is Hendson State Park, a fine place.
At Navarre, there are two good parks on the beach, but on
the SOUND (inside an island)..Emerald Beach and Navarre Parks.
At Pensacola there is Fort Pickens, a federal park, between
Pensacola Bay and the Gulf, with access to both.
At Perdido Key FL, Playa del Rio is on the inland waterway.
Tight spaces, but a good place.
On highway 180 west at Gulf Shores is Fort Morgan Park,
on Mobile Bay, with a pier, but no beach.
A new park has opened at Navarre, on the sound. I don't
know the name.
Go to rvparkreviews.com and look under Destin, Navarre FL,
Pensacola, Perdido Key, Orange Beach AL, and Gulf Shores AL.
P M me if you have questions.

RE: rv park near Birmingham, Alabama

The Birmingham area is one of the world's poorest for selection
of an R V Park. Some are
1. Hoover AL.....a city (?) park at an athletic stadium,
well rated by those who stay there.
2. A K O A (if it is still a K O A) in Pelham, which is
well rated, and suitable.
3. My favorite is Tannihill Historic State Park at
mile 100 on I 59/20 south of B'ham.
4. Oak Mountain State Park.
All these are on rvparkreviews.com. P M me with questions

RE: Best Route Biloxi, MS to Smoky Mountains

In reply to your questions........YES
I 65 (almost) to Birmingham
A few bumpy miles near Georgiana
459 to U S 11
U S 11 north toward Chattanooga
I usually got on I 59 at Gadsden and Fort Payne to
miss their traffic, then back on U S 11 as soon as I
could do that.
This will take longer, maybe an hour or so, than I 59,
but I could not STAND the bumpbumpbump.......I rode the LEFT
hand lane, it's smoother, but the faster traffic doesn't like
that, so I had to move right frequently.
When you get to/near the Tennessee line, get back on I 59;
it's smooth in Tennessee.
My information is several years old..........maybe someone
with later I 59 information will contribute.

RE: Best Route Biloxi, MS to Smoky Mountains

I avoid Interstate 59 between Birmingham
and the Alabama state line near Chattanooga.
BUMPBUMPBUMPBUPBUMP................concrete.
When I have to go that way, I get on parallel
U S 11.Someone may have updated information
on the condition of I 59 in that area.

RE: Overnight Stop in mid MS on I-55

In Jackson MS, get off I 55 at Lakeland Drive, a few miles
north of I 20. Go east about a mile to the sign to turn
right into LeFleur State Park. (There is an earlier sigh
to the park, but this is NOT the campground). A rather
dusty road leads to the campground, on a lake, maybe a
half mile. You could SEE
downtown, except that the park is very wooded. Check it on
rvparkreviews.com. We find it quiet, and convenient to
the interstate. P M me if you have questions.

RE: florida gulf beach camping

"ON the beach" is almost a thing of the past, since
the condos have taken all the beachfront property.
There is one beach park at Destin......expensive.......and we
like Emerald Beach and Navarre Beach at Navarre FL,
on the 'sound', with a small beach.
Santa Rosa island, with full surf, is within sight
and a 3 minute drive........ there is
Fort Pickens , at Pensacola.......and Gulf Shores AL,
a little west of your path has campgrounds CLOSE to the
beach.....Perdido Key FL has one on the inland waterway......
A new campground has opened at Navarre, expensive......
P M me if you have questions...........

RE: Gulf Shores camping

Gulf Shores AL is a FINE tourist area, with MANY
good campgrounds and restaurants, shopping facilities,
and miles of great beaches. The area starts
about 7 miles inland, at Foley. A snowbird favorite campground
is Anchors Aweigh (has web site), very close to a large
'outlet center' which the women LOVE...and to Lambert's
restaurant, 'home of the throwed rolls' (yes, they DO).
This is a large new campground.....no shade,
. There are other campgrounds and restaurants in the
town and area....try rvparkreviews.com at Foley Alabama
South on highway 59, cross a high bridge over the intra-
coastal canal. My favorite campground IN Gulf Shores is Luxury
RV, an easy 2 short block walk from the beach.....pool ...no shade,
concrete, a few palms and pines....has a web site. Great
restaurants in walking distance...Oyster House.......back at
the high rise bridge is LuLu's (sister of Jimmy Buffett), a
restaurant.....all these are NOT fancy dress up places.
Gulf State Park campground is a few miles east, and is about
a mile inland....usually booked up, but allows drive ups.
Call and discuss it.
A fun trip is to drive about 15 miles to Mobile Bay and ride
the ferry across and back, as a walk-on or in a vehicle.
About 20 minutes each way...windy, and may be cool on deck.
The 'other end' is on Dauphin Island.......has a web site,
and a campground.
Highways are 4 lane, and get busy on weekends. Crime is
minimal. Nice people.
A drive east on the beach, across Perdido (Lost) Pass high rise
bridge takes you to the FloraBama, a FAMOUS beach bar,(has web site)
which looks as if it will fall over any minute. You will
pass dozens of condos on the beach, many 20 or more stories.

RE: Alabama help!

Consider Lake Lurleen State Park just west of Northport.
And about 40 miles north on I 59 is Tannihill Historic
State Park, my favorite place. Look at these on
rvparkreviews.com, and P M me with questions.
Also, at that site, look under Tuscaloosa for other
choices. A comment on the previous submittal about

beautiful place !

RE: I-165 in Mobile, AL

What you propose will work without a problem
But
Look at a map of Mobile.......consider this
BEFORE coming to the I 10 tunnel under Mobile Bay
(at the eastern edge of Mobile) turn north on
U S 90. This curves west and crosses the bay
(river) on a bridge, leading to I 165, which
leads to I 65. This avoids the downtown area.
P M me if you have questions.

RE: Electrical Outlets

As a beginning to answer your questions
The receptacles you mention are probably fed by a
15 Ampere breaker. This would provide approximately
15 Amperes x 120 Volts = 1800 Watts. The National
Electric Code limits continuous load to 80% of
rated, and 80% x 1800 = 1400 Watts (approximately)
Yes, you can use both of the duplex receptacles if
your total load is limited to 1400 Watts.
Your BATTERY is not involved, unless you have an
inverter to convert the direct current to alternating
current......you don't mention this in your submittal.

RE: Amp Hours for AC appliances - Can you help clear this up?

An 'Ampere" (capitalized, a man's name) is defined as
6.241 x 10 to the 18th power electrons per second
(That's 6.241 with 18 zeros after it)
It is a RATE OF FLOW............electrons PER SECOND
To say "Amperes per second" is to say
"6.241 x 10 to the 18th power electrons per second PER SECOND"
(A measurement of something PER SECOND PER SECOND is a
measurement of ACCELERATION.......not speed)
So.....an AMPERE is by definition a movement PER SECOND,
and does not require the added "PER SECOND"
That's like saying I drove 50 miles per hour per hour.
Auto racing announcers often say "rate of speed", but
speed is ALREADY a rate, and does not need the added "of speed"
I hope this helps.
