RE: Between the wheel chocks.. use when jacks?

First on, last off for me too but my BAL X-chocks actually say not to raise/lower the trailer with them in place. For me, the risk of not having them in place is far worse than possibly twisting the axles a bit.

RE: Seasonal Site Convenience vs. Campgrounds?

A seasonal site for $1000? That's about 1/3 of most decent campgrounds in New England. The one we're considering is $3200 for the summer.

RE: Need to move 5'er - Southern, NH

This is interesting. We are thinking of moving from a MH to a 5ver. One big reason is if truck breaks I can get 5ver towed to a nearby CG while truck gets fixed. It seems that moving a 5ver is not that easy after all ?
Actually, I am all set. Got a call from someone right in town that is going to help me out for the cost of fuel. I placed an ad on Craig's List and have had 3 people offer. I have little doubt that someone would be able to help from here as well. Back in the fall I posted a message asking how you find a commercial hauler to move my rig to a campground and had someone from here offer to move it for free whenever I'm ready. RV'ers are always there for each other. Thanks to all who responded. Hope to be back on the road with you all in a few years.

RE: Need to move 5'er - Southern, NH

RV meets low hanging tree branch! Total roof replacement, to the tune of $9000. I can't say enough for my insurance company.:)

Need to move 5'er - Southern, NH

I am in the unfortunate position of having to move my 5th wheel and no longer own a tow vehicle. We made the difficult decision to give up towing and eventually plan to park our 5'er at a family place in Maine.
In any case, my rig has been at Campers Inn, Merrimack, NH since October having the roof replaced. Because the weather has been so mild, they finished the repair early. Campers Inn has agreed to let me keep it there until spring however it's out in the open now and not protected at all. We would feel much more comfortable having it parked at home for obvious reasons.
I live less than 10 miles from Campers Inn so the move would actually take longer to hitch/unhitch than the drive. By any chance is there anyone in the area that could help us out? We would of course compensate you for your time and fuel. Thanks in advance and "think Spring"..
I should probably add that our rig is a 2011 Crossroads Cruiser, 32', weighing about 10K as it sits right now..

RE: E-Bay called me about selling my truck

I had my truck on Ebay for 2 weeks and had no contact from them to "help" me. I did get several calls from people wanting to assist me with the sale but none claimed to be from Ebay. Sold my truck through Craigs List eventually.

Dumping without a dump!

I just sold my baby, AKA my Duramax and at this point, have no plans to replace it for a few years.
We were going to park our 5er at our favorite campground but also have the option of parking it next to our family summer home in Maine.
The only problem is I would have no way to dump the holding tanks since I won't be able to move it easily.
Has anyone ever used a commercial septic service to empty their tanks? I'm concerned that they might have too much suction and damage something. Any other ideas would be appreciated as well. Thanks.

RE: Accident free streak finally ended.

Update,
Finally got the estimate for my roof damage and it came in at $9K even.
I expected $2500, maybe $3k but holy cow! My insurance company is just going to love me but that's what they get paid for I guess. Happy Camping!

Going Seasonal

The wife and I have made the painful but sensible for us decision to go seasonal with our 5'er. With the price of fuel, it just seems to make more sense for us. That combined with the fact that my D-max has really held it's value, it's the right time to sell the truck and move on.
My only concern is selling the truck now and needing to get the 5'er hauled up to the campground in the spring. Where do I go to find a reputable hauler to move my rig and how much should expect to pay? The campground is about 50 miles away. Any help would be appreciated...

RE: It finally happened at the dump station...

I watched a guy in a rental unit hook up the hose wrong and when the hose came off, he grabbed it and started trying to jam it back on the drain, BARE Handed. Finally got it on, finished and wiped his hands on his shirt. Then he drove it over to the return are and handed over the keys. That right there would keep me from ever renting a unit!

RE: Need help with Dometic thermostat

to SCClockDR;
Thank you so much, I went through all the documentation we received with the rig and that's not there. This is extremely helpful and hopefully we can figure this thing out by next spring...

Well, misery does like company!
Still sucks but it could have been much worse. I really hate that it's ended our season this year though.

Need help with Dometic thermostat

My 5'er has a Dometic "comfort control center 2" digital/programmable thermostat installed that for the life of me, I can't seem to operate.
We were camping this past weekend and needed to use the heat. No matter what we did, we could not get the heat to run without the AC coming on at the same time. The instructions are basically useless, at least for us. I ended up tripping the AC circuit breaker to kill the AC but I'm pretty sure this isn't the preferred method of operation. Does anyone have one of these that has mastered the operation? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Accident free streak finally ended.

I've been towing RV's since 1985 without a single mishap, until yesterday.
while leaving our favorite campground, I got to close to a tree that leaned over the road, just about 12 feet off the ground. My 5'er is 12' 6" tall so now we have about 20' of torn roof on the street side. The amazing thing is there was no damage at all to the side of the rig, only the edge of the roof line. It just goes to show you that no matter how experienced you are, 1 little loss of concentration can cause a big problem! :S

RE: Keystone Laredo Quality

We just traded our 2005 29BH this past spring. We had zero issues with it over 5 years of use and only traded it because we no longer needed the bunks. We would have gone with another in a heartbeat if they had the floor plan we were interested in. I would not hesitate if you feel it's got everything you want.

RE: Goodsam insurance

I shopped around a great deal and GS was easily the highest. I ended up with American Modern but fortunately, have not had a claim yet.
At the very least, shop around.

RE: Champion Generator

Had mine for 4 years now, use it for the NASCAR week in the summer and makes a great standby unit in the winter. Ran my house and my neighbors for a week straight during the ice storm a couple years ago. I put a second 30amp RV outlet in my garage and bought a used 30amp extension cord off craig's list. Now if we lose power, I just back feed the house and I have the critical ckt breakers marked to keep the fridge, heat etc. going. Got mine at Tractor Supply for $269. Cheap piece of mind for me..
Not trying to be a smart A__ but hope you are using a generator transfer switch if you are hooking your generator up to you house circut. It is not only required by law but also a real safety hazard for your local power people that might be working on the lines. With out a generator transfer switch you will be back powering not only your house but the line that feeds your house.
Very good point..
No transfer switch, I throw the mains in the house along with the breakers I don't need for the necessities. When power is back, the gen gets shut down and the mains get reset.
