RE: Quality TC

We use our Bigfoot camper and pull a boat. We've been very pleased with the quality of the camper and how it handles on our truck. They are made in Canada and well insulated. We've used ours in temperatures as low as 7 degrees and as high as the upper 90's (with A/C) and been comfortable.

RE: Good Sam Membership Cards?

We received temporary cards followed by a permanent card. We received so much junk mail from Good Sams that one year I think I actually shredded the card and had to request a replacement. Call their support number, they have been fairly helpful.

RE: extented hitch

The type and class of hitch you have will have some bearing on the extension you can use. Torklift requires their Superhitch to use their Supertruss extension. These are relatively expensive. Reese also makes some extensions that I think will fit a 2" hitch but I'm not sure of the maximum length. Some people on this forum have fabricated their own extensions or had a welder do it for them.

RE: Joining the TC world

I hope you enjoy your truck camper as much as we enjoy ours. They are extremely versatile and can fit into many places a TT or MH won't.

RE: Which roof air conditioner is best for Truck Camper?

We have the Polar Cub 9200 on our Bigfoot 9.5 camper and can run it fine with a Honda 2000i generator. We have used it in Oklahoma in temperatures approaching 100 degrees and it cools the camper just fine. If they make one with a thermostat that cycles the fan that would be a nice option.

RE: SuperHitch and Torklift compatibility question??

Garry,
When I talked to Torklift before ordering my tie downs the Torklift technical support guy said I would need to specify if the tie downs were for a factory hitch or the Superhitch because they were not interchangeable. I ordered the Superhitch and the tie downs fit the pre-drilled bolt holes on the Superhitch. I still had my factory hitch and it did not look like the ones for the Superhitch would have fit it without some modifications.

RE: Newbie Question. Do you unload the camper at the campground?

We usually unload our truck camper at the campsite when we have our boat with us. Most of the weight in the camper is behind and below the cab over portion so I don't think there is any worry about it tipping over.

RE: Which hitch/receiver lock for a Silverado 3500

I changed from the Reese to the Trimax stainless steel locks. The Reese jammed on me after it was about 18 months old and I had to use a Sawzall to cut it off.

RE: Satellite Internet- do you use it?

You normally need a landline telephone to send the information to the network. The satellite is used to receive the information (to your computer). The satellite system is not bi-directional.
I'm not sure what satellite system you are referring to but HughesNet and WildBlue, two of the main satellite providers, have systems that send and receive. I have used both at a stationary location but I'm not sure what they have available for a mobile service.

RE: New Truck

You are correct that the Chevy/GMC trucks do have a rounded corner at the tailgate opening. This can be adjusted for by adding a plywood platform built up about 1" and adding a rubber mat on top to keep the camper from sliding (the rubber mat is recommended even if you don't have to have the plywood platform).
I'm not as familiar with the Ford but from what I have read from some Ford owners some do have to use a platform in the truck bed to raise the camper high enough to clear the top of the cab.

RE: To all GM owners. Buying advice needed.

I have been very pleased with our 2009 GMC Sierra 2500HD 4x4 6.0 gas engine. I haul a Bigfoot camper and tow a 18' bass boat and have not had any problems with power. The truck has the 6 speed auto transmission and 3.73 gears. Gas mileage with the camper and boat is around 11mpg depending on the terrain.

I have four anchor points in the concrete slab where I park the camper. I attach ratchet straps to the camper tie down points and the anchor points in the slab.

Need recommendation for FHS on Dale Hollow Lake TN

I would appreciate any recommendations for RV campgrounds with full hookups (water, sewer & electric) on Dale Hollow Lake in Tennessee. So far I've found several with water and electric but no sewer.
Thanks

RE: Medicare Help

AS Demoon stated the Medicare siteis the best source for Medicare supplement provider information in your area. This site will tell you the monthly cost and annual deductible associated with each plan. You might want to verify with your physicians that they accept the plan you are considering. On the Medicate site you can also put in your prescription drugs and it will help you select a Part D drug provider. As you approach 65 you will be over run by mailings from from the various provides, all claiming to be the best.

RE: picking up TC tomorrow...more ?s

Our dealer did have me load the camper on my truck under the direction of one of their service technicians. It was very helpful to load it the first time with an experienced person there to guide me. We drove the camper around town for part of the day after we loaded it then started a 1700 mile trip home the next day. The trip home was enjoyable and we had the opportunity to stop by the Grand Canyon on the way.

RE: Best lake to retire on

I would have to agree with JWDuke that Bull Shoals and Norfolk lakes in Arkansas are both beautiful, clear lakes. You might also take a look at Greers Ferry in Arkansas. Broken Bow lake in Oklahoma is also very clear.
