RE: Generator trouble

A FWIW on setting engine speed on a non-inverter generator. With no load 60Hz is not the correct setting. It should be set at 62Hz. The engine governors on the Onan and most other non-inverter generators are not very precise in their ability to maintain a constant engine rpm with varying loads. A 62Hz no load setting will generally give you a full load 58Hz. If you start at 60Hz no load the cycles will be too low with a high load. Jim I would start at 60Hz then use the kill-a-watt to do adjustments with the ac running. My onan would stay, I think, within 2 to 3 Hz of full load. Long time ago so I don't remember exactly. The microwave kept good time when running on the generator.

RE: Generator trouble

Sounds like the idle needs to be turned up. Would happen to mine 3 or 4 times a year. Vibration would loosen the idle screw, I used a kill-a-watt to get the idle correct, and putting out 120v or a little more, and to make sure the phase was adjusted to 60 HZ.

RE: How to troubleshoot aux battery problem

It sounds like when you think the battery is charged, you are just seeing a surface charge. A surface charge will drop very quickly, so you need to check the battery after about 20 min. Plug it in for 8 hours, then wait 20 min. and check the battery. It takes 12 hours or more of running the engine to charge a depleted battery, so shore power is the fastest. If it still doesn't hold a charge, my bet is a bad battery. Batteries can easily go bad in a year if they have been neglected or subjected to very hot, or very cold temps.

RE: Roadtrek Macerator Redux

On my portable macerator, I had a clear adapter that I attached just before the pump, I could watch and shut it down as soon as it was empty. This would also allow me to see when my tanks were clean. I know that wouldn't work for the installed ones, but I wonder if a clear piece of hose could be adapted, with male/ female ends, and used between the pump, and the hose. Just a thought, I have not see the RT installed ones in action, so this may not work at all.

RE: Smoked The Converter

NewS wrote, In another sub-forum, posters felt it OK to hurl insults because I made it clear that lead acid flooded cell batteries must be ventilated in accordance with industry standard rules to prevent the risk of hydrogen explosions and acid spills!!!! The fella was going to put the lead acid batteries in an enclosed compartment!!! NewsW, he was putting it in an enclosed compartment, but it wasn't sealed. I know the model Roadtrek he has, and the battery compartment is stock, as was the battery. It gets plenty of ventilation from the outside where it is located. You deserved what you got, and trying to scare the op, about his battery blowing up was irresponsible on your part. In the short time you have been here you have managed to get several threads closed in the Class B forum, by taking threads off topic. Thinking you know everything about everything, is your biggest safety hazard! So go ahead and whine some more because some members didn't agree with you, when you were wrong.

RE: Where do you park at home-backyard camping spot

http://myroadtrek.homestead.com/Palo_Verde_In_Bloom.JPG width=640 One of our RV hook-up sites. It's where the gravel is, just left, and behind the Palo Verde tree. http://myroadtrek.homestead.com/Palo_Verde_In_Bloom_2.JPG width=640 Palo Verde bloom is the best in ten years, really pretty, but messy. RV spot is behind the trees.

RE: What Did You Do To Your Class B Today ?

Why don't you try posting your problem in the "forum tech support" forum. That way this thread can stay on topic. Thanks

RE: calvanaire

I know they went out of business quite awhile ago. I didn't know they even made Class B's. This is the only thing I could find, and it's a Class C. http://autowheelsinmotion.com/coppermine/displayimage.php?album=147&pid=2058#top_display_media Probably most of the appliance manuals can be found on line. I would take it to a good RV mechanic, and let them explain the systems to you. All Class B's of that era were pretty much wired, and plumbed the same, with some minor differences The black tank might be a combo black/ gray tank. Yes it is Canadian.

RE: AC on top

You will have to figure out a way to install it on the roof without walking, kneeling, etc. on the roof. Most are too thin to hold ones weight. You will have to reinforce the area where the AC will go, and of course get it wired up. You will need something around 11,000 btu's or more, and only expect about 10 to 15 degrees max of cooling.

RE: Class B bedding

Travasak, the sheets Velcro in, one side is for colder temps, flip it over for warmer temps. Similar to the Superbag, which is a copy of the Travsak. I don't think Travasac is still in business.

RE: 2010 Roadtrek Sprinter

Thanks for the reply. Yea, things can happen pretty fast sometimes, and when you least expect it. What's really bad is when the driver gets up to get coffee. :E :) Happy Treaking!

RE: When graphics get old and weathered...

Hey Dave, I've always used the heat, and GooGone method. Heat with a hair dryer, pull of the graphics, then apply GooGone, let it sit for awhile then wipe with a cloth with GG on it. I found, to keep using a clean part of the rag for the GG works best. There is also the friction method, see this link. In your case this may be your best alternative. http://www.rvsg.com/restripe-removal.asp

I hope he was seat belted in when he was sleeping in the back. I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be the safety police, but comments like that scare the heck out of me.

RE: How much do you pay for Kuerig Kcups?

Lowes, here in Tucson carries them, and with a Military ID you get 10% off all purchases. I've also been buying Folgers K-Cups at Safeway. Bed & Bath has the best selection I have seen, we wait for a coupon to use there.

RE: traving with dogs

Some members don't look at the forum they are posting in, so you will get posts form members with Class A's, 5th Wheels, etc. Traveling with dogs in a "B" is more difficult mainly because of the heat. A "B" can heat up fast, and take a long time to cool down, so do be careful leaving them unattended. If you use the AC while you are away, ask a neighbor to check on it, (give them your cell no.) or return every hour or less to make sure it hasn't shut down. Lots of things can cause the AC to stop, shore power failure, gen-set shutting off, etc. As mentioned, many RV parks are now not accepting specific breeds, and Dobermans are on the lists. Welcome to the forum, and happy camping.

These are Class C's. I asked Admin to move them over to the "C" forum.

RE: Looking for Rear Kitchen/Rear Bathroom

Somewhere, I read that the difference between a B+ and a C was that the C has a bed over the cab and a B+ does not. B's are built on van chassis with a van body. C's are built on van chassis with a cutaway van cab. B+ vans are widebody B's - they can be identified by having a portion of the van body present and quite often have the rear cargo door present as well. This is just so wrong. B+ is a marketing term, for a Class C, which usually has no over the cab bed. B+'s and Class C's are both built on the same cut-a-way chassis.
