RE: Getting the TV vehicle ready checklist?

You will need a couple boards in case your off side to side.I have a small 12" level for leveling up,I lay it in the floor just inside the door so I can see it easily while leveling. Another good item to have is an IR heat gun,so when you stop to fuel up you can go around and check the temp of your wheels/hubs,hopefully to catch a bearing/brake issue before it"s too late.If one wheel/hub is notably hotter than the others you know something is up.

5000 RPMs?!...down to second gear...I know it's getting the job done but good grief Charlie Brown..For the life of me I couldn't see managing long trips with that kind of behavior from a tow rig...of course that's just my.02 worth...Phil

RE: '04 Tahoe...Longest TT to tow...

Having recently seen a short, single axle TT almost take out a F250, no way of telling if things hit the fan. There was no apparent reason for this short tail to start wagging this big dog all over the place. It happened on a long downhill that fortunately had a center passing lane for the uphill with no one comming up the hill. Used all three lanes for probably 1/4 mile before he got it back under control. Anything smaller would have wrecked.
OP, why would you go from one of the best TV to your Tahoe? Not going to save any fuel???
We're not trying to save fuel,we vacation several times a year some mtns, and some to the beach, while we will definitely use the F250 for the mtn trips,we've been thinking of trying the Tahoe for the beach trips with the TT(30' Sierra)..we have three kids and we're a lot more comfortable in the Tahoe, with the third row seat, also the Tahoe is nicer, more foo foo,we just want to be safe...

RE: '04 Tahoe...Longest TT to tow...

Thanks guys,I know GM rated vehicles by weight not length, and I also know the weight is a factor, but I've also heard stories about a short wheel base vehicle and the TT being too long for it,I was looking for real experience from someone that's towed with a Tahoe..and thanks again for the replies..

'04 Tahoe...Longest TT to tow...

Hello all,we have an'04 Tahoe 4x4 and I'm wondering what you guys think the max length TT should be towed with it. I know its not so much the weight as avoiding the tail wagging the dog issue. We have a diesel F250 that we tow with now so we're just wanting opinions on the Tahoe...thanks Phil

RE: Time for a new truck need help

I'm sorry,I just can't get on the wagon with"the new gassers will pull as good as a 7.3 diesel",mind you my 7.3 isn't stock,it has a few mods but I'll put it up against ANY new gas engine pulling a TT up ANY mountain pass,I know in stock form a 7.3 is sorta slow, but the torque from a slow 7.3 is gonna be better than the NEW gassers.I'm not trying to start a gas/diesel thing,I'm simply giving my opinion on this topic...Just my.02 worth...

I'll take the power/grunt of my diesel any day versus a few cents per gallon difference in the cost of getting there.

RE: Intolerance

I tend to agree with the original post, but two words should be added when describing other peoples right to act the way they wish: "... within reason." This might sound obvious but it has to be said, and is an important consideration.
The last time we dry camped was at a festival. RVs were very close to each other and our neighbour installed outdoor speakers under his 5er, about 7 or 8 feet from where my wife and I were sitting. He turned the music up so loud that we couldn't talk ... we had to scream at each other. I'm not exagerating, believe me! This is not within reason and infriges on my right to enjoy my stay.
The same goes with campfires. If a breeze is blowing right in the faces of our neighbours having dinner, I'll at least make an effort to get the fire going as fast as possible to reduce the smoke level. I would try to make sure the situation is reasonnable. The last time this happened to us, the neighbour who was starting his fire actually came over to ask us to tell him if it gets too annoying.
YOu camped at a Festival, and honestly are surprised that someone was in a festive mood and had loud music at their site? WHY would you camp at a festival then? I have camped at festivals, and we got what we expected - LOUD! We knew that this was not the weekend for chit chat around the fire. It was a party event and atmosphere.
I am just astounded sometimes by the expectations some people have. Can anyone really go to a CG during a festival weekend and really not think that most sites are going to be in full on party mode? We camped at bike week at a campground. Bikes revved ALL NIGHT long, people drank all night long, and most sites had very loud music. We expected that fully, however, when we checked in. I knew what it would be and I fully enjoyed the party atmosphere. If my goal for the weekend was R & R and nice chats around the campfire, we definitely would have sought another CG that didn't have a festival going on.
What about the guy that was complaining about kids at Fort Wilderness Disney,I mean...REALLY...why on earth would you be at Fort Wilderness if kids bother you,and if you just had to be there, how can you gripe about kids.I love this site,I spend lots of time reading/learning,and there is a lot of very good info here, and some people seem more than happy to lend a hand/give some info, but the people that gripe about everything under the sun really hurts the site.My wife and I bought our TT because we have three kids and vacation several times a year, but we were spending $1500.00 to $1800.00 a week just for lodging, with our TT we spend $350.00 to $400.00 a week,my wife and I work for a living, when the generator topic comes up,the people that chimes in to say.."oh do your neighbor a favor and buy RED or BLUE"are the ones griping about most other topics that come up.,that is one of the most self centered statements you can make,on a budget raising three children, when the time comes for us to get a generator we will surely spend $300.00 before we spend $2000.00 to $3000.00....OK rant is over....Phil

RE: Hey Lucy, ' splain something to me!

We travel with three kids,as far as showers go,if we took showers in the TT,we would have to start showering for supper at 1:00,so it's quicker to shower at the bathhouse, she takes the girls, and I take my son,as far as using the potty,we all will do #1 in the TT,but we go do #2 at the bathhouse because that could get kinda smelly quick,we just bought a new foot flush toilet too,my FIL laughs and says we're stupid...LOL...

RE: Diesel clatter in the campgrounds

I'm saying this as a diesel owner. Man, I get tired of the diesels clattering through the CG. After a while it is like nails on a chalkboard. We had a gasser back in next to us one night, and the silence was golden.
:( Good Grief...
