RE: Anyone ever made they're own Fuel Tank ??

RE: Cell Tower Antenna - How Directional?

Just to add a little to the excellent descriptions by SCVJeff, each "cell" uses a block of frequencies that is different than the "cells" next to it. When the call is handed off, the phone is switched to a new frequency in the block for the new "cell". If you get high enough your phone could "see" more than one "cell" using the same block of frequencies. Those 2 towers (or the computer controlling them) get confused and think you are in 2 places at the same time and just go "oh shucks" and drop the call. Put another way, you can't receive the same frequency from 2 towers at the same time. Not exactly true anymore. Iphone4 is a 3g device using CDMA or WCDMA. By definition, the system uses the same frequency block for all sites in a given area. Cells are separated using scrambling codes to decide which sector of the individual site you are talking to. You can and often are talking to two or more sectors at the same time as the phone can perform a soft handover. What many of you are referring to is 2g and is still in use, but most traffic is being forced to 3g when possible. Are there any white papers floating around on the architecture? Here is a quick one I found from Qualcomm. Some of it makes my head hurt... http://www.qualcomm.com/documents/files/commonalities-between-cdma2000-and-wcdma-technologies.pdf

RE: Glamis (weekend before T.G) busy?

Back when I had more vacation time, it was Glamis friday before Tday to the sat after. Good riding until wed night. Then it was sit and drink while watching the parade of people come in. Sit in camp and watch the crowds on thursday and friday, maybe a trip to Olds to see the crowds. Leave Saturday before the mass exodus on sunday. Was a blast every year! Maybe next year... Now its a few days before New Years to a couple days after. See you in Wash 10 or Wash 14!

RE: Electric winch control mod?

I have a wireless remote on the winch in my trailer. Mine was made by Mile Marker, but I have seen other brands on Ebay. Just keep extra batteries close. Dont ask how I learned that one...

RE: 5th Wheel Hitch

I have the Reese 20k Signature. I like it, nothing bad to say about it other than its heavy- but thats what sons are for right? If I had to do it over, I might go with the old school kind with the in bed rails because there are after market kits for air ride or go full air ride hitch...

RE: Can't find mega file in MS S&T

2011 has a defect that doesnt show certain pushpins created manually. I remember seeing some posts about it. I had to have one of my guys roll back to 2010 to correct it. I also remember seeing MS doesnt have a fix until 2012.

RE: Sprint to Drop Clearwire after 2012

sharing towers they sometimes share the connection ( roaming agreements ) t-mobile & ATT cam roam on each other on 'select' towers for phone calls & txt verizon & sprint can roam on each other doing the same thing AFAIK telco's do NOT allow competitors antenna & equipment on THEIR towers other Emergency fire & police equipment MIGHT be mounted at some towers to improve signal coverage for the EMS FYI Tower sharing can be just that- multiple carriers equipment on the same tower. Happens very often. Many localities insist on it too...

RE: Sprint to Drop Clearwire after 2012

It appears Light Squared is building out Sprint's LTE 4G over their existing network. I'm using Clearwire right now, but waiting for Light Squared to become available through retail suppliers once they build out their network. Light Squared has proposed installing the largest wireless data network, bigger than Verizon or AT&T, covering most every area of the Country, using a combination of tower and satellite coverage. Light Squared is a white elephant. The FCC will never give it final permission to start-up due to their signal interference with the GPS signals. I don't know what nut at Sprint is making these iPhone and Light Squared decisions but he/she should get the boot real quick. Im guessing its the same nutjob that decided it was a good idea to outsource all the network people...

RE: Cut off switch for inverter

Most inverters have some sort of draw, even when the switch is powered off. I used a dc breaker near the battery. Kills two birds with one stone.

RE: Help with electrical relay question

I did something similar in my old trailer. You may have relay chatter when the gen turns off and the voltage drops. A proper transfer switch has circuits to avoid this. That said, I used it that way the entire time I had the trailer. Just something to be aware of. Good luck and take some pics of the install.

RE: setup a wireless printer

My Canon MG5220 has an option for a Canon bluetooth dongle. Google search trying to find one showed any old bluetooth dongle would work. Three different ones at Frys, and the $7 special works like a charm. Maybe there is one for your printer too...

I think new units arent cheap, but I remember reading someplace about the Amish make replacement cooling units that are supposed to be better than factory... RE: Satelite in front bedroom

On my trailer, there is a line from the booster/ plate near the main TV. One of the cables runs to the bedroom TV. I used a meter to figure it out and just split the output of the sat box to the both TV's. I also use a product from Amazon/ Ebay called "Worlds best remote extender". Lets me change the channel from the bedroom...
