RE: Ft Wilderness(again) post pics

thanks for the replies. I think one of my biggest concerns was not having shade. I like the feel of wooded sites, not to mention I dont want to bake inthe Florida sun camped out in the middle of a field.
Don't worry about having shade. Except for about 12-15 new sites in the 600 loop(premium level), all of the sites are in the woods and very shady.

RE: Ft Wilderness(again) post pics

At Fort Wilderness, you cannot request a specific site or even a specific loop.....
The above information is incorrect.
You can most definitely request a certain loop when you make your reservation and 5-days prior to your arrival you can fax your request for a specific site or location within your requested loop. They are very good at honoring requests for a site but make sure you put your most important item in your request first; such as near comfort station, or bus stop, or easy to back in, etc. If you know a specific site you like, put that as your preference along with second and third choices. I have been going to FW several times a year and have had very good luck at getting my requested site. www.disboards.com is an excellent site for all information about Fort Wilderness and Disney. They even have a subsection specifically for campers. Check it out!!

RE: RV Park Near Mobile , Alabama

try emmaus rv resort in summerdale al. here now great place, LARGE sites, full hookups. new
There is nothing to do in this park; no amenities at all. Some are possibly due in the coming years but for now it's just a place to park your rig. If you are taking any kids, it will not work. I found it to be too far away from anything except a high priced Winn-Dixie. There are lots of other parks closer to the USS Alabama.

RE: Gaston Lake, NC

I actually love this campground. It's one of my favorites. Here's some of my favorite things about this campground.
- obviously, one of the best lakes in VA. Bring a boat, or you can rent one at the nearby stonehouse timberlodge. Cost is roughly $200 per day. I don't advise boating on this lake on a holiday weekend, tho. It's overcrowded.
- a bit on the rustic side. no sewer for most sites, but as mentioned, a honey wagon service that will empty your tanks for you.
- Bring an extra long water hose. Water hookups are at the street, electric in the back. I use 2x25'ers and barely reach the water hookup.
- sites are mostly uneven. You will need to level.
- complete shade. Every site is almost 100% shade. Makes this a good place to go in the hot summer.
- sandy beaches and swimming areas. Very clean fresh water. Our kids never want to get out of the water. there are free inflatables the kids can borrow.
- nice cafe, friday and saturday night DJs. usually a band on the beach on Saturday afternoons.
- world class fishing. if you throw a hook in the water, you *will* catch a 12" channel cat, almost guaranteed. Lots of fishing spots.
- Every site is water view.
- mini golf, horse shoes, vollyball, playgrounds, etc.
- Very organized. Lots of activities/contests/tournaments for kids and adults.
In all, I enjoy this campground much more than the ones where everyone parks in a giant grassy parking lot and there are a million golf carts everywhere.
We bounce in between here and 1000 Trails Gloucester all summer long.
You must be talking about the Encore park because this is nothing like the Americamps.
Sorry I did stray off track as I was talking about the Americamps.

RE: Gaston Lake, NC

. . . . AmeriCamps is at Exit 4 of I-5. They have beautiful waterfront lots, staff is great and there are a few stores at the exit ramp and further down the road past AmeriCamp. I won't comment on Encore...nugh said. Safe travels.
Stores??? - there is a truck stop at the exit and another gas station with the usual grocery items and a Subway in it. Saying there are stores at the exit ramp is alittle misleading - they are just gas stations with food items. You would need to go atleast 15-18 miles down the road to get to a Food Lion and other small shops.
????? guess this was a typo but they are located off I-85 not I-5.
Also not sure what you call beautiful waterfront lots but the sites that are along the water are not level and can only accomodate tents and some popups. If it rains when you are there, "Look out below" is all I can say, the hill is so steep that the water running into these sites creates a muddy mess. If you have a MH, you will be located in the few semi-level gravel sites near the office and recreation hall which means tons of golf carts on dusty gravel roads. Not my idea of beautiful water sites.
Did I mention golf carts . . . . .don't get me started on that.

RE: Sold my boat last night and then it died for the new owner.

Well, still no contact from the buyer; makes me wonder what his game was? We are hitting the road at the end of the week and will be gone for a month but I will post again if I ever hear from him.

RE: Sold my boat last night and then it died for the new owner.

What part of 'as is with no warranty" do you people not understand?
Well normally I would agree with you, but here is a link to a similar situation as mine. This is a very lengthy read but it makes you think twice about selling something "as-is". You can't always depend on the legal system to enforce a contract.
Please read -- Selling a boat "as-is" was a nightmare

Well, I don't know if "no news is good news" but we haven't heard anything from the buyer. Hopefully he realized that he was the one that screwed up the boat and is going to leave us alone.

RE: Sold my boat last night and then it died for the new owner.

doublenot7 - Sorry, no update. We had a previously scheduled out of town commitment (that the buyer knew of) and we won't be talking to him until our return on Monday. I purposely did not give him my cell number - needed a few days to think about what to do.
ETA - I did contact legal services and this was the reply I received -
Good afternoon. Problems after sale do arise and I appreciate this issue. Legally you are not liable as a seller. From what I understand you did not provide warranties, it operated fine before you turned it over, and the damage occurred during and from buyer's use of it. Buyer here could have negotiated a warranty period but did not. The price absorbed that risk and buyer here would carry it now.

RE: Sold my boat last night and then it died for the new owner.

It is hard to believe all these responses of just walk away or the buyer must have broke it. Were the circumstances reversed and the OP bought the boat from a dealer, there would be calls to hang the dealer at noon tomorrow.
It would be reasonable to assume a purchased boat represented to run would do so for more than twenty minutes. The "right" thing to do would be to inspect the boat and to see if it was operator error. If not, either return the money or fix it.
I believe that if this were a dealer purchased boat that was sold-as, no warranty, that the purchaser might have been out of luck. If a dealer states no warranty, do you think they would fix this and assume 100% of the cost?
We also don't really know how long the guy ran the boat maybe 15 minutes, maybe 2 hours????? We also don't know if he operated the boat in a proper manner. He could have taken it out and run the "you know what" out of it. He could have hit a rock with the lower unit. The thing is -- we will never know what really happened. However, I do appreciate your point of view.

RE: Sold my boat last night and then it died for the new owner.

Thanks for all of the replies, appreciate it. To answer acouple of the questions/comments.
It was a 1987 boat/motor/trailer so it had some age to it that is why it was only $2250. As far as the oil situation, it has a separate oil tank and it mixes it with the gas automatically. I checked all of the fluids levels before he left so it did have enough oil.
Some of your thoughts have been the same as mine. I totally expect that the guy took the boat out and ran it full throttle for probably an extended period of time, most people would. We never ran it a full throttle because my wife would have been scared, her top speed is at most 25mph. I also suspect that he took it out for more than 15-20 minutes because it was a beautiful day and who takes their new boat out on the first day for only a 15 minute ride?? As msmith1199 suggested, I thought the same thing -- that he had the engine running to fast as he was coming onto the trailer and just slammed it into reverse, thereby screwing up the motor. But again these are only my thoughts.
However, one of my wife's biggest fears is retaliation. As stated, we live in a very remote area so he would have free reign over my boat. Do you think we are over-reacting on this aspect? Let's face it, we talked to the guy (wife and son) for maybe 45 minutes and he seemed like a nice guy but who knows. Thanks guys.

RE: Sold my boat last night and then it died for the new owner.

Indoard? Stern Drive? Outboard? Manufacturer?
Maybe YOU should look at it.
It's a Mercury outboard.
I would LOOK at it but the guy lives almost 2 hours away and my looking at it would only confirm there is a problem. I would have no idea with the problem would be so that is why I suggested, to him, to take it to a boat mechanic!!

Sold my boat last night and then it died for the new owner.

I've posted this problem on a boating forum but they don't seem to have the volume of users that this forum does so I thought I would post my dilemma here to get your thoughts. I've always gotten such good advice here so here goes --
I sold my boat, motor and trailer last night. I started it up for the guy and it ran for awhile and he was pleased with the sound of the motor. It was kinda strange because he came when it was dark and said he didn't care about the appearance of the boat (there were great pics on the ad). All he was concerned with was that the motor was okay. He picked it up this afternoon and was real pleased with the appearance of the boat now that he could see it in daylight. He called me several hours later and said that the motor died. He said he took it out on the lake for a 15-20 minute ride and when he was putting it on the trailer, it died. He said he put it in reverse and there was a clunk and then the motor stopped and would not run anymore.
He talked to a welder/mechanic friend (?) who told him the motor was locked up and he should just buy a used motor to put on it. He acts like he is expecting us to pay for it. He signed a receipt that states, no warranty, items sold as-is. Now we are willing to work with him because we feel bad about this. However we only sold him the boat for $2,250. We told him he should take it to a boat mechanic to see what the problem was. For all we know, he took it out and ran the "stuffing" out of it or maybe nothing is wrong with it and he is trying to get some money.
So my question is -
Any thoughts on how we should handle this with the new owner? I'm alittle concerned because he does know where I live and since it's very remote and isolated, I don't want anything to suddenly happen to my new boat especially since we travel alot.

RE: Direct TV

If you are wanting to get the "local" main channels, abc, nbc, etc. simply call Direct TV and tell them you need the local spot beam changed to your new temporary major city. This takes about 5 minutes and I have done this every time for the past three years. You must keep your billing address the same as it was.
Nope, not anymore at least for those of us that do not have a "permanent residence address". Been doing it for years and just this week was told that all Mobile accounts will receive locals based upon where your RV is registered. No more changing the service address as you move around the country.
Perhaps the issue here comes into play when you do not have a "permanent resident address". I do have one and I just had a chat with DirectTV a few minutes ago and they will move my spotbeam whenever I am ready. No questions asked about what receiver I am taking.
I tried to change my locals while in FL during the month of May. They told me no way and that I needed to get the DNS account inorder to change my locals while on the road. They said that service address and billing address had to match and it could no longer be changed "on the fly" just by calling in. So have to keep them both with my S&B address. Will have to use the batwing or cable to get locals while on the road.

RE: license plates aren't so cheap any more

Hi...we are also SD residents in Pennington County. We have not heard of an increase. Last month we re-registered our cars and RV... Did not see a significant increase in what we paid. :@ :h
We also left NC... They are over the top with all their sneaky taxes..
Since your rig is a 2008, you were not affected by the change in the 5 to 10 year rule. However, you still were affected by the increase.

RE: license plates aren't so cheap any more

Registration for our motorhome in FL for 2 years was $143 last month. The toad would have been $74 for 2 years, but it is cheaper in ID for the toad.
Wow, that is a significant difference, almost one fourth cheaper.
