RE: Please wash your hands

I'm wondering if it's time to change the topic to covering your mouth when you sneeze......or maybe, wiping your feet when you enter your RV. :R Those ought to be good for eight or ten pages, don't you think? :B

RE: Please wash your hands

It would seem to me that this is something that the guys WIFE might worry about, not you. How in the world does it affect your life?

RE: Not getting hot water inside the camper...

On the tank itself where the hot water line comes out, you should see a brass mixing valve that the hot water line is threaded in to. These are known to go bad quite often. Providing everything else checks out ok, this is prob your culprit. This would be my guess as well. I just changed it a few months ago because it was doing exactly what yours was.....hot water in the tank, but nothing coming out the hot water faucet. My understanding is that it keeps the water from backing up, and has a spring that goes bad which closes off the valve completely allowing no water to pass. The whole thing screws right into the side of your hot water tank, and it's an inexpensive part to replace. The worst part is trying to get a wrench in there to unscrew the old one! If it leaks BADLY after you replace the valve, that means you left the rubber washer inside the old part. Fish it out and reuse it, or better yet, just get a new one of those as well.

Route through New England

We are planning a mid-summer trip from Michigan to Maine, going through Ohio and Pennsylvania, and probably terminating in the Bar Harbor area, and then coming home via a different route. I'm having problems finding a route that meets the following criteria: Avoiding congested areas, Avoiding busy expressways and toll roads, Maximizing the sight-seeing experience, Avoiding bridges and ferry's that won't handle a small class C with toad, In other words, finding the most scenic and relaxing route possible. Time is not a factor. Our mapping program is recommending I-89 to U.S.11, across Lake Champlain to Burlington via ferry, U.S.2 to Bangor, then down to Bar Harbor. Any thoughts about this route? Any recommendations regarding a return route? I'm also open to any suggestions regarding those "don't miss" locations and side trips since we've never been anywhere in New England before. Thanks for any help.

RE: Campground Reviews

Thanks for the info. However, you would be helping a LOT more people if you posted that same information on RVparkreviews.com. A lot of people, myself included, read the reviews on every campground we plan on visiting before we go there.

RE: campground near okefenokee swamp

We stopped for the night at Laura Walker State Park and liked it so much that we ended up staying almost a week. There are boat tours of the swamp near by.

RE: Any campgounds in the south on a lake with a marina?

I've been told that Lake Rousseau is a world class bass fishing lake. This campground is right on the bank.

RE: Padded invoice on work done

In my opinion, when a company QUOTES the customer $789.00 for parts and installation, that should be the amount that appears ON THE BILL. If they can't do the job for the price they quoted, then they shouldn't be providing quotes in the first place. They should just be honest and say, "Gee, we have no idea what it will cost, but we'll be happy to tell you AFTER the job is finished". On edit: Occasionally something unexpected will be found that will affect the cost of the job. This is perfectly understandable. But it is incumbent on the service provider to contact the customer BEFORE continuing. And this "unexpected" situation should NOT include work or parts that the service provider merely FORGOT to include in the quote. Those things are the service providers responsibility, and should not be charged to the customer just because the service provider made a mistake.

RE: New Camping World Flyer

Wouldn't it be nice if they just charged a fair price every day? No sales, no special deals, no "president club" specials......just a fair, everyday price. When they start posting three or four different prices for the same item, I start looking for a store that ALWAYS gives me what they feel is their best, most reasonable price, every time. Even if it's a few bucks more than the "PRESIDENTIAL, MEMBERS ONLY, SUPER-SALE, HOLIDAY BELOW-COST EXTRAVAGANZA" price. I just don't like these retail games. Give me a GOOD product, at a FAIR price, with GREAT customer service, and I'll be back time after time, and the other place can keep their sales.

RE: Ways to make the jack-knife sofa/bed more comfortable?

We've used this Coleman air mattress with the included pump, and found it to be great for our purposes. It's not an Aerobed, but it doesn't cost $200 bucks either.

RE: RV & Travel Trailer Routing Assistance

If you get the book Exit Now, or Next Exit, both good resources, they will show you the fuel stops that have wide access for RV's.

RE: Why can;t I get a quote/

Update... After my initial post, I recieved a message from CW Customer Service. After explaining the issue, she apparently made some calls, and I now have the quote. She even called back to make sure I had gotten it. Thanks. Good to hear this. But it takes us right back to the same issue again and again......why does a complaint have to be sent to the Camping World CEO, or posted on a public forum, before anything positive happens? Shouldn't the employees be providing this minimal level of customer service themselves? If not them, how about the individual store managers? Why is it necessary to go so far up the corporate level to get a simple problem solved?

RE: WARNING

They also just stated that it may not be someone imitating a police officer, but someone who is pretending to be broken down and needing help instead. In any event, watch yourself out there.

RE: Water in FW tank sitting for 3 weeks -- dump and sanitize?

Personally, I would dump it and re-fill, REGARDLESS of whether it was city or well water. It's just too easy to do, to NOT do it, and then spend time worrying about it. And, if you're STILL going to worry, then sanitize it as well. That process isn't a big deal either, although I don't think it's necessary.

RE: Funeral Edict?

My problem with the practice of funeral processions is the way they intrude on the lives of hundreds or even thousands of people who did not know the deceased. For them, life goes on. Even high profile personages should not disrupt the daily lives of people not otherwise associated with them. I've seen instances where major freeways in the Phoenix area were shut down, both ways, for the funeral procession of a slain police officer. Life still goes on for others who still have to go to and from work, drive vehicles as part of their work, businesses still need their deliveries to and from the businesses, etc. But funeral processions are an anachronism that needs to go the way of the buggy whip. This IMO, is about as callous as a person can get and again, IMO, is what is wrong with this country of ours today. The Officer gave his life to protect someone in your community and it was and affront to you, because his funeral was a disruption to your daily life. Thank god, there are many in this country who still have some respect and feeling for others and are not the callous person you have turned into. I agree with this persons comments. Everyone today wants to be called a hero, to receive recognition for which they don't deserve. A person merely doing their job is not a hero nor do they need me to stop alongside the highway and salute them. For all I know, they died eating too many donuts. Honors to the dead in this country can get way, way overblown. Another example of why nothing gets accomplished in this country. Although I don't believe that funeral processions should still be occurring in this day and age, I just hope that I never become as bitter of an individual as you have apparently become. Your "eating too many donuts" comment is a slap in the face of individuals that have been known to give their lives for even the likes of you.

RE: Funeral Edict?

Whidbeydavid, I have seen that as well, and couldn't agree more. I wonder what kind of argument the police would have presented in court to defend their position if they had given you a ticket, and you had contested it. I can't imagine you losing YOUR argument that you were merely using the roadway that YOU as a taxpayer helped pay for. All of these "processions", regardless of how noble the cause, create too many problems for others, and should be outlawed.

RE: Funeral Edict?

I personally witnessed two accidents involving funeral processions, BOTH of which resulted in fatalities. It's not like 100 years ago......there is way too much traffic now, and speeds are too high to safely have these processions. The OP's confusion and indecision could have had the same result. My personal belief is that it's time to stop the practice altogether, and just have people meet at the cemetery at a predetermined time, rather than drive there in a procession. I might agree with exemptions for police or military funeral processions, but then all other traffic should be blocked. Just my opinion.

RE: State Parks in Texas

For bird enthusiasts, you can't beat Goose Island State Park. Camping available, with lots of birds to view. As a bonus, there is Aransas National Nature Preserve about 20 miles northeast of Goose Island. Both areas are nesting sites for the Whooping Crane, plus dozens of other birds. Another nice park is Bentsen State Park in the RGV. No camping there, and you have to stay in a RGV campground while you're there, but definitely worth it for a few days. LOTS of exotic birds there.

RE: Camping World Online Purchase Complaint

X4. Had this happen one time so the next purchase I made on-line was to somebody else - just less hassle. This is exactly the way to handle it. Let them know that their failure to provide you with ADVANCE notice that an item is not available will result in your CANCELLING your order with them, and ordering from someone else. Most on-line sites will let you know IN ADVANCE that the item is not currently in stock. To NOT give you this information just presumes that you will buy from CW, regardless of how long you have to wait. Wrong!
