RE: Locked out!!!

I happened to have a set of keys that went to an old camper and my 4 year old was carrying them around playing with them when we camped last time. She was playing around at the door and all the sudden yelled "I locked it!" Yeah, right. Well, she did. Those keys (to our HTT) fit our new TT.
Try using some neighbors keys to see if they fit.

RE: Honeymoon location ideas?

I will suggest a few of my favorite camping spots - Hunting Island SP, SC and also Gulf SP in Gulf Shores, AL, The Breaks Interstate Park, Natural Tunnel SP in VA. There are large sites at all of these campgrounds, but you must look for ones that are. Both Hunting Island and Gulf SP have water (ocean), and are not too far of a drive. The Breaks is on the border of Virginia and KY and is beautiful, has large sites and should give you the privacy that you need. Natural Tunnel is about 30 miles north of the TN border into VA and again, has large sites (Lover's Leap Campground) and has plenty to do (or not) in the area.
Hunting Island has some larger sites if you go toward the back and during September, you will find it not so packed as it is in the summer or holidays.
Gulf State Park has some large sites, even up front close to Middle Lake and the ocean is about 1/2 mile away.
The Breaks has some beautiful mountainous scenery, water activities on a river and there is also a lake there.
Natural Tunnel has water nearby, but not right at the campground, but there is also plenty to do if you want. It is also located in the mountains with beautiful scenery.

RE: Our new F150 HD Ecoboost

I picked mine up on March 26th, and as of today, have 3400 miles one it. We have been to Florida and back for a spring break cruise (1700 miles) and have three different camping (towing) trips, for another 420 miles, I guess the rest of them have been local trips and a little bit of daily driving.
Ours is much loved and we have the EB, crewcab, HD, 4X4, max tow and ours is Golden Bronze Metallic. I has much more power then our Chev 5.3L and sure does handle the TT well.
Here's to a long fun life of ours EB's!!!

RE: question about tennessee state parks

I know that Roan Mountain SP is full most late spring, summer and early fall weekends. We have friends that will go and set up on Wednesday or Thurs in order to have a place for the weekend. Warriors Path in Kingsport is the same way. They are good parks, but they tend to fill quickly. A holiday weekend requires going on Tuesday to make sure you have a site for the weekend.

RE: F-150: eco boost or 6 liter V8 ?

I recently purchased an F-150 Ecoboost, Crew Cab, Max Tow, HD Package and we absolutely LOVE it!! We have towed our Rockwood 8317SS three times and have taken it on a 1400 mile trip to/from Floriday and we can't say enough about the way it rides, drives and tows. Love, Love, LOVE IT!
Thanks---I am curious--looks like you are pulling 34 ft of trailer with a 1/2 ton 150? did you notice a big change with the integrated trailer sway control?
I don't know that it was a BIG change, but it is definitely easier to stop with the integrated brake and it feels different with the integrated trailer sway control. The last time we towed, we turned off the sway control just to see the difference and we had some "truck sway" when big rigs would pass at high speeds on the highway. It definitely does help, but it feels different - I know that doesn't really answer your question, but it is the best I can do.

Take a look at this online photo site. It has photos of each site. I hope this can answer your question, if not, it is still handy to have.

RE: Camping with toddlers

My kids are now 7 and 4, but have camped since they were 4 months old. We have found that bubbles are a great thing to have while camping as are balloons. We blow up a balloon, they keep it in the air.....it's good for 30-45 minutes several different times during the day.
We also like to take a small kiddie pool and fill it up. They will get dirty, muddy, but have a blast.
Water guns that are filled from the kiddie pool is also a hit during the hot summer - for EVERYONE.
Traps for lightning bugs, grasshoppers, etc. is also a hit with my girls. We do release them in the evening prior to bed time.
Anything that they can do outside, they enjoy. We also let them do their own cooking (to some extent and with adult supervision) by using the weenee sticks and the pie-irons. They think it's great and they are so grown up that they can fix their own food.
Don't get too uptight over anything, take lots of extra clothes and have a good time. If it's not "life-altering", don't sweat it.

RE: North Carolina Camping

You are just a hop, skip and jump from Virginia and the VSP system has received all sorts of awards for their parks. These should all be within a less than 3 hour drive from Charlotte.
Check out:

Grayson Highlands SP
Fairy Stone SP
Hungry Mother SP
Natural Tunnel SP (My favorite)

RE: Open Range brand? Thoughts?

I have looked at the OPen Range RVs and was pretty impressed with the "what could be seen" quality. I did open doors, storage, etc. We camp with a couple that has one and they love it and have talked another couple into getting one. They are picking it up next week.

RE: What to do when you break down

We have ERS through Ford for the first 60,000 miles and that DOES include any camper/trailer attached to the Ford at the time. (Yes, I have checked to make sure this is true), but we also have Good Sam ERS and have had to use it one time. We got the TT stuck in a mucky mire and the truck could not pull it out. A really big wrecker came and pulled both the truck and TT out and we were on our way. IT was great.

RE: Feedback on Jayco Jay Flight Swift SLX

Someone had one listed for sale on here yesterday! I don't have any idea who it was, where they were located or anything. I had never really seen that model, but I looked at some pics. Interesting with the bunks, dinette and couch. It is a basic "sleeping" camper.
I assume that the post is gone by now since he was trying to sell it. Maybe he will contact you through a PM.

RE: So, What doesn't like peanut butter???

We did the same thing after coming home from camp hosting at a state park - closed up for a month, then we saw all sorts of "sign". Our cats found the little boogers - chipmunks!!! They didn't touch the traps with PB, but they couldn't hide from the cats.

RE: Kingsport, TN to Jekyll Island, GA

Ray, we have tried both ways heading to Hunting Island, SC and have found that I-26 has
a. much less traffic
b. slower speed limit, so no 18'ers flying by at 80mph
c. about 45 minutes quicker
d. the best scenery
e. a rest stop at JUST THE RIGHT TIME for our little one to say "I've gotta pee"!!
As whomever stated above, check with TDOT and NC DOT to see about lane closings before you leave and that may make the decision for you. Have a great time and congratulations on your UP-TRADE. Hope to see you camping soon.

RE: And it's ours...

Congratulations on getting it paid off, now use it, use it, use it. We had a HTT when both our daughters were born and they LOVED it. We went to the beach several times a year (8 hr trip) and would camp for at least two weeks during the summer, usually locally.
Now that the girls are older (8 and 5), we are heading out on a 7 week trip this summer and then will camp host for the month of August at a local state park.
To get the kids used to the HTT, set it up at the house and let them play in it, maybe take a nap in it and if at all possible, sleep in it at least for one night. We would set it up a week ahead of time and spend lots of time playing games or just hanging out during the day. The girls still want to play in ours when we are at home.

RE: privacy curtain

If you just want something easy, use an old shower curtain along with the rings around a hula hoop ($1 at dollar stores). Put 3-4 pieces of string around the hoop that will come to a point for hanging. Use some heavy duty velcro strapping to keep it hanging from the ceiling.

RE: Rv'ing and cruising

We have done that several times - usually cruising out of New Orleans and we take our RV to Gulf Shores, stay a few days, leave it in storage, go on cruise, come back and take RV out of storage, stay a few more days, then back home. It usually costs $1.50 per day to store it. Gulf Shores is about 2 1/2 hrs from NO.
This year, we just drove to Port Canaveral to embark on our cruise. We NEVER park in their lot. We always park at the Radisson, which is about 1 mile from port. They shuttle you back and forth - it costs $50 for the week, including taxes, etc. It's not covered parking, but it doesn't really matter to us. It is a definite money saving thing and it is good. I called them to ask about length of vehicle and they said they would park ANY vehicle for the same price, even an RV. (I assume they mean motorhome).

RE: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

so is this in a roll or package...any idea where in the garden department????? and was it listed as sun shade???
It is just material, a polypropylene type stuff. It is the same material that Camping World and other places sell for lots of bucks, but are hemmed and already have grommets.
It cost me $18.96 for the 15' roll and I found it in the garden/plant department last spring/summer. When I purchased mine, they had several colors to choose from - white, black, tan (which I got) and green. I have not looked for it this year, so I don't know if they have it or not.
As was stated above, I folded it over on the edges, which were raw and placed 5-6 grommets across the top and 3 on the bottom and sides. The sides were just to make it look better and the bottom was to use S hooks to hold it down. I used the same S-hooks and plastic anchors to hook it to our awning.
